In April of 1922, neighbors of the Gruber-Gabriel family stumbled upon a grizzly scene on a remote farmstead near Gröbern, Bavaria called Hinterkaifeck. They found all 6 residents - Andreas and Cäzilia Gruber, their daughter Viktoria, her children Cäzilia and Josef, and their maid Maria Baumgartner - bludgeoned to death with a farm tool. When police began their investigation they realized something incredibly eerie - the killer had remained on the property for several days after the murder, feeding the farm animals and using the kitchen, before vanishing without a trace. The investigation would lead to wild speculation about family secrets and local suspects, but the case remains unsolved, cementing it as one of Germany’s most chilling true crime mysteries. On July 11, 2012, a distressing 911 call came in from Lubbock, Texas. This week, we're talking about the kidnapping of Denise Huskins. In the middle of the night on March 22, 2015, a group of broke into the home of Aaron Quinn and kidnapped his girlfriend, Denise Huskins. Aaron's story involved kidnappers wearing wet suits who played pre-recorded messages and wanted very little ransom for Denise's return. His story seemed so unbelievable to police, who were convinced early on that Aaron had done something to Denise. When that seemed unlikely, they formed a new theory: that Denise had never been kidnapped, and she was actually the real life Gone Girl.'' It was April 11, 2007 when 50 year old Michele MacNeill was found unconscious in her bathtub by her husband, Martin MacNeill. Martin attempted CPR while he waited for the ambulance to arrive, but she could not be saved. Tragically, less than an hour after she arrived at the hospital, Michele was pronounced dead. Days later, the Utah State medical examiner declared that Michele’s death was due to natural causes from a heart arrhythmia. On July 1, 2018, eleven members of the same family were found dead in their house in the Burari neighborhood of Delhi, India, sparking widespread shock and speculation. This is one of the most baffling stories we have ever covered. Terrance Williams and Felipe Santos were two young men who vanished into thin air under eerily similar circumstances. In January of 2004, Terrance vanished after he was last seen getting into the backseat of Sheriff's Deputy Steven Calkins' car, who initially said he had no recollection of the event. Later, his memory would return and he said he'd only given Terrance a ride to work at a nearby Circle K. When a police officer saw a red car stopped at a green light just after 2 AM, he figured the driver had fallen asleep and he blew his horn hoping to wake the person up and continue on his way. Inna Budnytska was living temporarily in a Miami hotel when, on February 21, 2005, she was found dumped on the side of the road, viciously beaten, raped, and left for dead. The investigation into her attack quickly hit a dead end when no one could figure out how she left the hotel in the first place. She was seen on camera going up to her room, and then never seen on camera again. It was July 13, 1993. Just after 2 AM, a call came into 911 from a residence in the Somerset area of Bellevue, Washington asking for an ambulance. In 2017, David Josiah Lawson was a student at Humbolt State University with big plans for his future. He was the first in his family to go to college, and was majoring in Criminal Justice with plans to become a lawyer and later enter politics. But before the end of his sophomore year at Humbolt, Josiah Lawson was murdered. He'd been at a party with his girlfriend and some friends, when a fight broke out. On the night of Halloween, 2001, Kent Heitholt, was murdered. A witness was able to create a composite sketch with police and in late 2003, the Columbia Tribune ran an article on the murder and included the composite sketch. A young man named Charles Erickson saw that sketch and thought he recognized the person. He thought it looked a lot like himself. The problem was, Charles could not remember the night of Halloween 2001. He'd blacked out, and all he knew was that he'd been at a bar near the crime scene. Charles became obsessed with this case, convinced that he was involved in the murder. And if he was involved, then so was the guy that had given him a ride home that night: his friend, Ryan Ferguson.
