Locked On Angels - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels weren't able to get much going against Yankees starter Luis Gil, as Logan O'Hoppe proved to be the only offense they could muster with his solo home run, but, the Halos certainly had their chances after Tyler Anderson held the powerful Yankees to 1 run and the bullpen only surrendered a run on a misplay at 3rd. Mike and Jon share their thoughts on how the game ended and whether or not it was the right call to have Willie Calhoun swing instead of bunt or get pinch hit for. We'll break it down for you in segment 1!

The Los Angeles Angels faced a tough New York Yankees lineup on Tuesday night at the Big A, but it was some timely hitting from Taylor Ward in the 8th inning that put them over the Yankees, 4-3! The Los Angeles Angels dropped the second game to the Houston Astros in extra innings, after giving up three leads and another bad showing from Carlos Estevez. The Los Angeles Angels now sit 2-1 against the American League West after taking 2 of 3 from the Texas Rangers! While it might've been a sweep if not for a game-losing hit-by-pitch on Saturday night, the Angels' pitching held up their end of the bargain even with the offense struggling to 0-18 with runners in scoring position Saturday night. Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington certainly created a lot of conversation on Wednesday, the day after his postgame comments where he proclaimed he didn't do anything wrong and that Luis Guillorme didn't get the job done. It was a strange doubling down in the face of the facts, and Wash was clearly frustrated with the questioning from the reporters. So, now that the dust has settled somewhat, what is our response to the way he handled the situation, and what did the likes of Jeff Fletcher and Victor Rojas have to say about it? The Los Angeles Angels once again bailed out a struggling pitcher, as Ron Washington called for a squeeze play against a pitcher who was nowhere near the zone. It cost the Angels any momentum they had going in the 8th, and this was after a struggling Reid Detmers left the game after surrendering 5 runs. The Halos clawed their way back into the game, but were left out to dry late in the 8th. We'll give you a full recap and explain why Ron Washington was responsible for this loss in segment 1.

The Los Angeles Angels saw a complete bullpen collapse on Monday night, as they fell 10-5 to the St. Louis Cardinals. It was an embarrassing display from the veteran arms, especially after the Halos earned a 4-0 lead on the back of Kyren Paris, Kevin Pillar, and Jose Soriano keeping it scoreless. Even Adam Cimber, who finished the 6th with a bases-loaded double play, was part of the issue in the 7th, and it was a classic blowpen outing. We'll give you all the details in segment 1.

The Los Angeles Angels failed to win another series in this four-game meeting between the Halos and the Kansas City Royals this past weekend, as KC arrived with some strong starting pitching in tow. The Los Angeles Angels put together a nice team effort to snap their losing streak and pick up a win against the Orioles on Tuesday night! The Los Angeles Angels were unable to overcome a 4-2 final score against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night, even though they had a few chances to do so in this one. Key moments came in the 7th and the 9th inning for Mike Trout, but he failed to deliver when he needed to the most. Reid Detmers didn't have his best stuff, but completed 7 innings of work, surrendering 4 runs, but keeping the Halos close enough to come back, but the offense has been weak since Saturday. The Los Angeles Angels were swept by the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend, in a display that proved why Mike said you had to play nearly perfect baseball and leave no room for error on last Friday's show. It certainly did show this weekend, as costly errors on the infield came back to haunt the Halos constantly throughout the weekend, and even with a strong start from Jose Soriano, the Angels couldn't keep the bad habits from happening. The Los Angeles Angels got an excellent second start out of Jose Soriano, which should've been the headline in this one, but, unfortunately, Carlos Estevez blew the save in the 9th inning, which led to an additional 4 innings of back-and-forth baseball that saw the Rays eventually walk it off in the bottom of the 13th. Although the Halos had plenty of chances to come through with runners on and also finish the game ahead in the score and with two outs, Angels pitching wasn't able to finish the job. The Los Angeles Angels surrendered another series in the young 2024 season, this time to the Tampa Bay Rays. The rubber match occurred on Wednesday afternoon with Jose Soriano making his first big-league start. Although the Angels had their chances, there were too many miscues and missed opportunities in this one to make the difference, as a wild pitch that had Soriano and Matt Thaiss scrambling for the ball caused two runs to score, and Jo Adell had a mental lapse trying to steal 2nd base. We'll give you all the key moments from this one, including the return of the Halos' old pal, umpire Doug Eddings in segment 1!

The Los Angeles Angels fell short of a comeback win on Tuesday night, falling 6-4 to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Los Angeles Angels took 1 game out of 3 from the Boston Red Sox this weekend, as the Halos celebrated their home opener Friday night by mounting a nice comeback, only to lose the lead and fall 8-6. while the Angels had enough offense to win Friday night if not for Jose Soriano's struggles, Saturday and Sunday were different stories. The Los Angeles Angels couldn't get to the Orioles' Corbin Burnes other than a Mike Trout home run in his first AB, but it wouldn't have mattered, as Patrick Sandoval set the tone for what might've been one of the worst Opening Day performances in the team's history. The Los Angeles Angels had quite a bit of news over the weekend, from Robert Stephenson likely not being ready to come out of the bullpen on Opening Day to Arte Moreno not being convinced that Blake Snell would be a substantial upgrade for the team. The Los Angeles Angels played 2 games yesterday, as they held split-squad games that saw Patrick Sandoval against the Oakland A's and Reid Detmers versus the Chicago Cubs. The Los Angeles Angels were victorious over the Brewers on Tuesday, winning 6-4 with some impressive young pitching! Zach Plesac started this one in his first time on the mound for the Halos. Before the game and in interviews, Plesac noted the things he's been working on in order to have more success in 2024. So, based on his first start, did Plesac accomplish what he wanted to do? We'll tell you the changes he's wanted to make in segment 1 and give you our observations, plus, we'll highlight some of the young pitching, including top prospect Caden Dana's Spring Training debut, and Zach Neto's big day at the plate in segment 2!

Then, the Angels are reportedly "primed to land" one of either Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery. The Los Angeles Angels came away with the win on Monday against the Giants, thanks to some great offense from Aaron Hicks, Hunter Dozier, Jo Adell, and prospect Nelson Rada!
