While doing research for a future bonus audio, I rediscovered the band and decided to give their discography a whirl. This is my first impression.

Mon, 19 Aug 2024 - 48min - 27 - Bonus - Interview with Bopper (River City Rebels)
This was originally posted on the One Band, 5 Songs Patreon on July 31, 2024.
I have vivid memories of seeing the River City Rebels albums Racism, Religion And War and Playin' To Live, Livin' To Playin stores in the early 2000s (and I'm pretty sure I owned a copy of Playin' To Live, Livin' To Playat one time or another). Both albums have distinctive covers that leave an impression. Fast forward to 2024 and I got a message from a friend on Instagram suggesting I cover River City Rebels. He also admitted to being the band's roadie/merch guy, so I did what anyone with an ounce of journalism training would do (I have an AA in Broadcast Journalism btw) and I asked if he could hook me up with an interview/guest for the podcast.
Dan "Bopper" O'Day started River City Rebels in 1997 in Burlington, VT. During their initial run, the band released seven full-length albums and toured all over the world. After calling it a day in 2010, Bopper reformed the band and released their first new music in 13 with 2013's single "Humble Me" and the 2024 EP Pop Culture Baby.

Mon, 01 Jul 2024 - 40min - 14 - Bonus - Interview with Justin Hensley (Punk Lotto Pod)
This was originally released on the One Band, 5 Songs Patreon on April 20, 2024.
I first found Punk Lotto Pod in late 2019, or early 2020 while searching for podcasts that covered the best music of the 2010s. After listening to one episode, I was in. Shortly after that, I went back and listened to pretty much everything that they put out up to that point and shot them an email. Four years later I'm still listening but more than that, I found some great friends.
Hosted by brothers Justin and Dylan Hensley, Punk Lotto Pod dives deep into albums from the greater punk and punk adjacent genres/subgenres, providing context from the times, opinions, and analysis, all through the lens of their unique personal histories and anecdotes.
Justin was a guest on One Band, 5 Songs in August 2023 to discuss the legendary Teenage Fanclub.

Wed, 26 Jun 2024 - 1h 02min - 13 - Hagfish
Hailing from Dallas, TX, Hagfish played a type of pop punk that helped them to fit in as perfectly next to the likes of Tripping Daisy and the Toadies as they did with Face To Face and the Descendents. Over the course of 10 years, three albums (four if you count the spin-off band Armstrong’s full-length), one live album, and one compilation, the band forged a path that was raucous, a bit raunchy, and always a sh*t-ton of fun.

Hailing from New York City, The Heartdrops played full-tilt, catchy as all-get-out, greaser punk rock. Sadly, the band’s run was short (about five years producing a handful of 7-inch EPs and two full-length albums) and now all but forgotten, which is a crime.

Hailing from San Francisco, CA, One Man Army was formed by Jack Dalrymple (guitar, lead vocals), Brandon Pollack (drums), and James Kotter (bass) in 1995. Kotter was replaced on bass by Heiko Schrepel after the release of the band's debut full-length Dead End Stories in 1998. Dead End Stories was the first release for Adeline Records. The band's follow-up, Last Word Spoken, was also released by Adeline in 2000. In 2002 One Man Army released their final album, Rumors & Headlines, on BYO Records, with Chip Hanna taking over on drums. This lineup would record one final record, a split with Alkaline Trio, BYO Split Series, Vol. 5 in 2004. In 2005 the band called it a day. Dalrymple went on to play in Dead To Me, Swingin' Utters, and toyGuitar. In 2011, the band reunited with Pollack back on the drums and released their final EP, She's An Alarm, in 2012 on Adeline Records. The band ended for good after the passing of Schrepel in 2015.
