Harold Zelt, a cherished long-time resident of White Rock, transformed his hobby of photographing local dogs into a beloved calendar series. Beginning in 2020, the "Dogs of White Rock" calendar quickly became a community favorite, with proceeds benefiting the BC SPCA's education and adoption programs in Surrey. Though Harold recently passed away at the age of 97, his son has honored his legacy by carrying on the tradition with a new photo shoot in July, resulting in the fifth edition of the calendar. Emmanuel means God with us. He must have told us that a lot in the Bible because He knew that there'd be times we didn't feel it; because He knew there'd be times we'd doubt it. He says it over and over:

I am with you.

It's one of the most off repeated promises in the Bible and I think he did that because He knew some of us would be asking, "Where are you?" And he's saying, "Don't forget this... I am with you."

Tech Sergeant Kenneth O'Brien's has saved a few people in his lifetime. On the way to receive an actual award for this, he saved a one-year-old child who had lost consciousness on the flight he was on, by clearing the child's breathing passage and resuscitating him. His rescues have included saving someone from a burning vehicle in Korea, and he also played a significant role in the Thai soccer team cave water rescue a few years ago. He just cannot stop being awesome. Well done, Sergeant.

Here's a little highlight of unexpected kindness that filled this Mama's heart the other day. My sweet Zoe, who loves performing shows for us at home, decided to perform a show during recess at her middle school. Unsure of how it was going to go down, I was a little apprehensive. However, the children watched Zoe's performance with genuine interest and applauded her enthusiastically... and blessed both our socks off. Thank you Lord for these moments of sweetness, goodness and joy.

You know that mirror that sees everything in high definition, and points out every single flaw to you? I feel like that's what our culture does. But what a relief if God looks at you and He doesn't see every failing. I mean, isn't that incredible? He's willing to throw your failings behind you and into the sea of forgetfulness. He loves you to your core.

Imagine, if you will, and it's not a pleasant image necessarily, but let's say you're in a parking lot at a store and then you see just outside, there's like a 40-year-old woman who is just screaming and berating a five-year-old girl, just telling her she's awful. She's horrible. As an adult, you see that. You don't think that girl is horrible, right? But the girl, she doesn't know better. So, she absorbs this. She doesn't have the faculties to process it like we do as adults. And I think that's really important because a lot of us, we're like that girl when it comes to how we think about God. And we have some wrong ideas about ourselves, like that we're awful and we're no good. God wants to punish us. You may have heard that, but it's not true. We can believe lies about ourselves until we understand the truth.

Every song, everything we're talking about on this show is trying to point you towards the real truth about how loved you are by God. How loved he wants to be with you, partner with you in life. He treasures you so you can turn toward him. Not away. It's just that sometimes we believe the wrong things.

Let's say that you are a spectacular moral failure and everybody knows it. Like your family knows it, people around it. It's humiliating. You blew it so spectacularly and it's out there for everybody to see, and it's embarrassing, and so on and so forth. Got to tell you something... All the people that Jesus hung out with, all the people that followed him, all the people that argued about who's going to be in and who's going to be out, and all the different events he was at... His own followers were like, "Will I be on your right? Can I sit on the right in the seat of honor next to you? He only promised one person paradise. One person. Specifically to one person, like, you are going. You know who that was if you have any experience reading about Jesus. It's the thief on the cross next to him. The biggest, most obvious public moral failure, actually put up like a billboard in front of everybody to go, this guy's a loser. Jesus turns to him and says, "Today you're going to be with me in paradise." He never does that for anybody else.

Newsflash! We're all aware that prices have gone up and up and up and up. The inflation is crazy, but despite inflation driving up the cost of food and groceries to their highest levels in years, the big box store, Costco, has promised not to raise the price of their $1.50 hot dog combo special. Okay, now that's pretty cool, especially since that hot dog special for a $1.50 has been going on since 1985, and they've never raised the price. It's the only place where you can feed a family of four for under 10 bucks. At Costco, that $1.50 hotdog special has actually become kind of an emblem of the company's commitment to delivering value. So, way to go Costco, I think I know what I'm having for lunch today.

I bet there is a movie that you have seen over and over and over again, and if you just happen to be flipping channels and it's even halfway through, you'll still watch it because you'll love it. Well, apparently watching your favorite movies over and over and over again is actually good for you. I'm thinking, really? Why is this? So, the repetition calms you because knowing the outcome of the story, or the movie, helps you to feel safe in an unpredictable world. And our world is unpredictable, isn't it? Very complicated these days, and watching your favorite movies over and over again can actually comfort you by recapturing lost feelings.

So go ahead, watch that movie again and again and again. It's good for you.

What do you thank God for? Every day when you wake up and start your day. First thing that pops into my head, my family, my kids. Oh, there was a time when I went through a horrible divorce after 30 years, and I was worried about those relationships with my children, and wow, you know what? God is amazing. He restores, and once something’s been taken from you and then you get it back, or he restores it, I think you cherish it even more, right? It says so right in the Bible in Joel, that God will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten. Oh, I believe that verse.

So anytime I can help my kids or see my kids, or my grandkids, or any family… I’m thrilled and I’m so overflowing with joy, and I don’t have to. I get to. So this afternoon after work, I get to put on one of my favorite Disney T-shirts with all the seagulls from Finding Nemo and play with my grandkids, all four of them, all afternoon. My favorite day of the week.

A study by Mike Adams, a professor at Eastern Connecticut State University, suggests a correlation between students' exam periods and the mortality rate of their grandmothers. The research indicates that grandmothers are 10 times more likely "to die" before a midterm, and 19 times more likely before a final exam. The risk is even higher for grandmothers of students who are not performing well academically. Brant and Sherri suggest that the best way for grandparents to ensure their survival is to avoid sending their grandchildren to college.
