Marybeth Tinning murdered each of her children in cold blood. The motive was that she enjoyed the sympathy and attention she received when her children brought to the hospital.The causes of death for Tinning's first eight children was initially thought to be genetic. Even when her sixth child, Michael – who was adopted and not of blood relation – died in 1981, authorities failed to open an investigation.

On the morning of March 12, 2011, Rachel Orteli, the manager of a Lululemon in the suburbs of Washington D.C., walked up to the storefront ready to start her day and get the store opened. As Rachel approached the front door, she noticed that the door was already unlocked. Once inside, Rachel found the store in disarray: clothes thrown about, mannequins knocked over, clothing racks tipped. Immediately concerned, Rachel ran out of the store and called 911. When police arrived and further entered the store, they discovered this was not just a robbery. They found 30-year-old Jayna Murray dead and facedown in a pool of blood in the back hall and 28-year-old Brittany Norwood in the bathroom bound at the wrists and ankles with zip ties. In October 1989, 11-year-old Jacob Wetterling and his brother, Trevor (age 10), and best friend, Aaron (age 11), convinced Jacob's parents to allow them to ride their bikes to a local convenience store in St. Joseph, Minnesota. It got dark early in the evening in Minnesota in October, and the boys had to take flashlights and wear reflective vests before they could go. The boys made it to the convenience store, however, on their way home they were stopped by a man who abducted Jacob. Around 5:30 on Wednesday, December 6, 1989, the Café Campus at the Université de Montréal was busy as usual. Anna Bachmeier was nowhere to be found when her mom got home. Having gotten into a fight with her mother the night before, Anna decided to skip school. When her mother, Marianne came home that day she panicked when she couldn't find Anna. After calling all her friends, Marianne decided to call the police. Only hours later, a woman walked into the police station with a chilling story: her fiance, Klaus Grabowski, a butcher and neighbor to Anna and Marianne had confessed to killing Anna and dumping her body in a cardboard box near a riverbed. 10 months later Klaus went to trial and took the stand to describe the events that led up to Anna's murder. This was too much for Marianne to emotionally handle and she decided to take justice into her own hands during the court proceeding.

On July 16, 2011, 17-year-old Tyler Hadley was preparing to have a party at his parent’s house. He had been planning this event for a few weeks, but Tyler didn’t post on Facebook until that day. On October 31, 1975, around 12:15 in the afternoon, Sheila McGuire, a teenager living in the exclusive Belle Haven community in Greenwich, Connecticut, was walking from her house to her friend Martha Moxley’s to invite her to go downtown that day. To get to her friend’s house, she cut through a wooded section of their backyard. She spotted underneath the low-hanging branches of a pine tree what looked like a sleeping bag lying on top of a foam mattress. John Alexander Lawson was born in 1976, and seemed to have a relatively normal upbringing in Clemmons, North Carolina...or at least there seemed to be nothing to indicate why John, at the age of 24 years old, seemed to radically change his personality and his name. He became Pazuzu Algarad. His name was inspired by "The Exorcist" and he claimed his mother was a Satanist (she wasn't). July 9, 2014, started off as a beautiful summer day in suburban Houston, Texas. On May 31, 1995, in Oslo, Norway, a woman registered as "Jennifer Fairgate" was checking into the Plaza Hotel. As she signed her registration card, no one noticed that she signed "Jennifer Fergate" and not "Fairgate". John George Haigh was a lazy bastard. Instead of finding gainful employment, he decided he was going to victimize wealthy people. He had gone to jail for stealing earlier in his life, and while he was in prison, he learned forgery which would help him impersonate his victims after he murdered them. He claimed his mother molested him, and that he had an incestuous relationship with his sister, Jeannie, that lasted for years. In 1969, he went to Vietnam and when he returned, he was a changed man. January 29th, 2009 was an exciting day for children in Australia--it was the first day back to school after the long holiday break and it also was 4-year-old Darcey Freeman's very first day of school. Darcey's father was driving her, along with her two brothers to school, when he seemed to have snapped. The day prior, Darcey's parents' long divorce and custody battle finally came to an end, and her father, Arthur Freeman, was awarded much less parenting time than he wanted. Arthur felt like the courts were against him and he seethed with anger at his ex-wife, Peta Barnes the entire drive to school. Sadly, Darcey never made it to school that day and died in the most unthinkable way.

Marlene Warren loved clowns. She loved them so much, she painted many pictures of clowns, and one of her paintings is our cover photo. Marlene enjoyed clowns so much, that it was an ironic tragedy when she was murdered by one. In 1990, Marlene answered the front door to her home where she was greeted by a clown with flowers and balloons for her. During the early 20th century in the United States, there were traveling carnivals that included sideshows that showcased people with genetic abnormalities. One family who traveled with the carnival, and did quite well financially, was the Stiles family. Their claim to fame was that many members of the family had the genetic condition called ectrodactyly--commonly known as Lobster Claw Syndrome. Grady Stiles, Jr. was one of the members of the family who was part of the carnival, and during his life, he married and had children. He also was a raging and violent alcoholic. In November of 2013, a Cleveland 911 operator got a frantic call from a woman. Her husband had just been shot outside of the home that they were packing up to move. It seemed like a robbery gone wrong. There were no perpetrators on site, and the man shot was still breathing--even after being shot four times. The man’s wife, rode along with EMS to the local hospital, with her husband, firefighter, William Walker. Unfortunately, William did not survive and this week's episode is about his murder.

There was a time in this country when there really were not any laws against child abuse. It wasn’t until 1975 did the State of Minnesota adopt legislation regarding child abuse and in 1971, the Minnesota State Supreme Court first heard a case concerning “battered-child syndrome”. This week’s case is about the horrific treatment and death of three-year-old Dennis Jergens, at the hands of his adoptive mother—someone who had no business ever being allowed to adopt—in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Be forewarned, it’s horrific.

Sheree Warren left her job in Salt Lake City on a mild October evening in 1985. She told a coworker she was headed to meet her estranged husband, Charles Warren, at a car dealership. In the early morning hours of March 19, 1985, Linda Bailey Brown lost her life. When police arrived at the home, her husband, David Arnold Brown answered the door and told them his wife’s body was in their bedroom and that he thought she had been shot. Also living in the home was Linda’s 17-year-old younger sister, Patti, David’s 14-year-old daughter, Cinnamon, from a previous marriage, and David and Linda’s baby daughter, Crystal. However, when the police tried to find Cinnamon they didn’t find her until they looked outside in one of the dog houses in the backyard. On the morning of November 2, 1990, a Florida Power & Light crew was working on an electrical box located in a wealthy Miami Beach neighborhood. The neighborhood was known for its beachfront mansions, however, on this day, it would be known for something that would horrify the community. Tucked along the base of one of the mansion’s exterior walls was what the electrical worker first thought was a discarded lollipop wrapper. However, upon closer inspection, the worker was aghast to find the body of a very small child, wearing a t-shirt with three lollipops on the front. In 1973, Willie Steelman and Doug Gretzler met by chance. This meeting would end up being deadly for 17 people in Arizona and California that same year. During a 17-day span, Willie and Doug would kill acquaintances, strangers, and children all for what seemed to be just for the thrill. This spree killing would leave not only many dead behind, but dozens more traumatized over losing their friends or loved ones. Ultimately, what they did landed them on death row in Arizona, and neither of them saw another day of freedom after their sentencing.

Ann Hoover bought her first home in 1995 in the Pittsburg, Pennsylvania neighborhood of South Oakland. This neighborhood was somewhere that needed a lot of TLC (tender loving care) and Ann, along with her neighbors, were excited to rehab the area. Everyone including Ann and her next-door neighbor, Roy Kirk, looked forward to the transformation and had wonderful and exciting plans for their neighborhood. However, when Roy started doing things to his home that damaged Ann's, Ann felt her only path to recouping her losses was to eventually go to court.

Christine Paolilla had a tough childhood. Her father died in an accident when she was little and she also suffered from alopecia which caused her to have very low self-esteem. During her early school years, she had a tough time at school when she was the victim of teasing and was picked on quite a bit. This all changed when her family moved to Friendswood, Texas, and was befriended by two of the most popular girls in the high school. Rachel and her baby daughter were found murdered in their bed on January 20th, 2006 in Massachusetts. They were shot to death while Rachel held baby Lillian Rose in her arms. Rachel's husband Neil, originally from England was nowhere to be found and police launched a hunt for him which took them all way over to Europe.

South Central Los Angeles in the late 1980s was a terrible place to be. The area was rampant with crime, drugs, and a struggle to survive. Many women turned to sex work to either help feed their addiction or to feed their families. As many of you know, police tended to turn a blind eye when dead sex workers were found, and they had an attitude like the victims were disposable. Because of this attitude, serial killers often made South Central L.A. their hunting grounds, and Lonnie Franklin, Jr. was one of them. Nicknamed "The Grim Sleeper" due to the extended supposed break he took in killing--Lonnie's true victim count will never be known.

In August 1985, the Bamber family was murdered. Neville and June Bamber were killed along with their 6-year-old grandchildren, twins Nicholas and Daniel. The twins’ mother, 28-year-old Sheila was also found dead, and at first, the police believed that Sheila annihilated her family and then killed herself. However, some things just didn’t add up, especially when it came to the sole survivor in the Bamber family, Sheila’s brother, 24-year-old Jeremy. The body of a young woman was found on November 16, 1969, off Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles, California, only a few short miles from where The Manson Family had murdered several people that summer. The woman had no ID and no significant identifying marks, and while the Los Angeles Police Department tried to discover her identity, they were unsuccessful. The woman was given the moniker Jane Doe 59. Jane Doe 59 and another woman, Marina Habe, whose body was found in January 1969, would be cold cases for the LAPD and would cause them to wonder if they were victims of The Manson Family or had met their ends via some other violent means.
