During his early ministry, Jesus recruited or welcomed both men and women as close companions and followers. Of these supporters and admirers, twelve men became part of his inner circle or disciples. The Kingdom of Saguenay was a fanciful, mythical country rich in gold and diamonds supposedly located, according to the Natives, inland of present-day Quebec City. Adventurer Jacques Cartier tried in vain to reach this realm on several occasions. From 1541 to 43 France attempted to Colonize at the Cap Rouge settlement along the interior of the St.-Lawrence river valley. Jacques Cartier returned as leader of a new expedition and navigated the first known penetration of the interior of the continent through the St. Lawrence River gateway in 1535. When pressing upstream in three small vessels, he reached the Amerindian village of Stadacona, near the present site of the city of Quebec. Deism is a form of theism in which God created the universe and established rationally comprehensible moral and natural laws but no longer intervenes in human affairs. Deism is a natural religion where belief in God is based on application of reason and evidence observed in the designs and laws found in nature. Deists present deist apologetics that demonstrate the existence of God based on evidence and reason, absent divine revelation. Rationalism is a belief or theory that opinions and actions should be based on reason and knowledge rather than on religious belief or emotional response. Spanish explorer Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca was one of four survivors of the Narváez expedition which traveled the American Gulf Coast & Southwest reaching Mexico City in 1536. They were the first known non-Native Americans to see the Mississippi River, and to cross the Gulf of Mexico and Texas. The Narváez expedition was a Spanish journey of exploration and colonization started in 1527 that intended to establish colonial settlements and garrisons in Florida.
