As we approach the Nativity of Our Lord, we take a moment to observe, through the eyes of the Fathers of the Church, who witnessed the Birth of our Saviour. The Icon of Panagia Hodegetria, also known as the Directress icon, is historically understood to be the first icon of the Church. It was painted, according to the sacred tradition of our Church, in Jerusalem by St Luke the Evangelist. According to the Synaxarion, the Holy Evangelist created the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos while she was still alive and she accepted it with great joy, and blessed it saying: "May the grace of He who was born from me be with this icon." In Part 1 of a new miniseries on the Neomartyrs, we explore the importance of the Neomartyrs through the life of St Kosmas of Aetolia. We also reflect on the virtues they displayed throughout their lives and how it is possible to witness for Christ in the contemporary world.

Today, the Sunday after Pentecost, our Orthodox Church celebrates the Sunday of All Saints - both those who are known to us and those who are not. These Saints include martyrs, prophets, monks, bishops, lay-people, apostles, priests. In this podcast, we are joined by Mrs Anna Dimitriou of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Group to commemorate All Saints who have been perfected in piety and have glorified God by their holy lives.

Χριστος Ανεστη! Christ Is Risen! On this HOLY and GREAT Sunday of Pascha we celebrate the life bearing Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We read the Paschal Message of Archbishop Makarios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.

On GREAT and HOLY SATURDAY the CHURCH contemplates the mystery of the Lord's descent into Hades, the place of the dead. Death, our ultimate enemy, is defeated from within. On this day, GREAT SATURDAY our focus is on the Tomb of Christ. This is no ordinary grave of corruption, decay and defeat. It is life-giving, a source of power, victory and liberation. On this day, GREAT SATURDAY is the day between Jesus' death and His resurrection. It is the day of watchful expectation, in which mourning is being transformed into joy.

On this day, Holy and Great Friday, we celebrate the awesome, holy, and saving Passion of our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ—the spitting, the blows with the palm of the hand, the buffeting, the mockery, the reviling, the wearing of the purple robe, the reed, the sponge, the vinegar, the nailing, the lance, and above all, the Crucifixion and Death which He condescended to endure willingly for our sake's—and also the saving confession of the grateful thief upon the cross.

On this Great and Holy Thursday, we hear the Twelve Passion Gospels. We commemorate the institution of the Holy Eucharist – where Christ identified Himself with the bread and wine and said: “Take, eat; this is my Body. Drink of it all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant”. We are joined by Mrs Kathryn Stavropoulos who will reflect upon this and the Last Supper. We also remember the agony of the events leading to the Passion and the prayer of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. We commemorate the washing of the disciples’ feet, and in through that, the revelation of Christ’s profound humility and the manifestation of His perfect love. We remember Judas’ betrayal of Christ with a kiss – the sign of friendship and love.

On Holy Wednesday, we commemorate the sinful woman who anointed the head of Jesus shortly before the passion. The Repentance of the sinful woman is juxtaposed with the tragic fall of the disciple Judas – not so that we may recount the betrayal of Judas in self-righteousness – but so that we too can recognise that these words apply not to others, but to ourselves – for how many times have we betrayed our Saviour and Crucified Him in our hearts? Mrs Helen Magdas joins us to reflect on the repentance of the sinful woman.

On Holy Tuesday, the Hymn of Saint Kassiani is chanted.

On Holy Monday we commemorate Joseph the All Good who stands as a prototype of Christ.

"Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!". Today, our Church celebrates Palm Sunday, the day that our Lord triumphantly entered Jerusalem. In this podcast, Fr George Liangas, Parish Priest at St Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, explains the importance of this feast and what it means to us.

On the Fifth Sunday of Great Lent, our Church commemorates St Mary of Egypt. St Mary is a true model of repentance - an example of the extreme actions that are sometimes necessary for us to flee from sin and embrace our calling as children of God. Her life teaches us to accept responsibility for our sins, and challenges us to take the appropriate action. In this podcast, we are introduced us to the life of this great saint, and guided in applying the lessons from her in our daily life.

On the Fourth Sunday of Great Lent, our Church commemorates St John of the Ladder. St John is famous for writing "The Ladder of Divine Ascent", one of the most well-known spiritual texts in Orthodox Christianity. In this podcast, Fr Dimitri Kokkinos, Parish Priest at St Ioannis Greek Orthodox Church, provides a short commentary on this book together with moving extracts from various sections, including the parts on Renunciation (Step 1), Obedience (Step 4), Remembrance of Wrongs (Step 9) and Chastity (Step 15).

On the Third Sunday of Lent, our Church commemorates the Life-Giving Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the Gospel reading of the day, the Lord says "If anyone wishes to come after me; let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me". What does this mean in our day-to-day life? How can we deny ourselves? What does it mean to take up our cross? This podcast discusses these questions and more.

On the Second Sunday of Lent, our Church celebrates St Gregory Palamas, the great 14th century theologian. St Gregory was a monk on Mt Athos and subsequently Archbishop of Thessaloniki, where he defended Orthodoxy from a number of heresies.  This podcast discuss his life and the impact he had on Church theology and history.

Today marks the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence. It is also the feast of the Annunciation of the Theotokos, when the Theotokos was told that she would give birth to Christ. Commenting on these events is Fr Anastasios Bozikis, priest at the parish of St Nektarios in Wollongong and Lecturer in Church History at St Andrew's Greek Orthodox Theological College.

Many of the figures of the Old Testament point the way towards Christ. One such figure was the Prophet Moses, who through his life and through the Law gave those who had "ears to hear" signs of Christ's coming in the flesh.

In this podcast, we take a journey through the life of Saint Spyridon of Tremithus, the Wonderworker. We highlight that one of the primary virtues this Saint exemplified was simplicity, something especially relevant in the lead up to Christmas in the modern world.

One aspect of the Nativity which is often ignored in our Western society is the role of the Theotokos. Far from being a minor participant, Fr Dimitri Kokkinos, priest at the parish of St Ioannis at Parramatta, shows us the true extent of the Theotokos' role in the Nativity in this Podcast.

Saint Andrew was the first person to abandon everything and follow Christ when he was called. We are also called by Christ in different ways. In this podcast, Andrew Psarommatis explains how we can follow in Saint Andrew's footsteps in responding to the call of Christ.

The life of the Righteous Joseph, found in the Old Testament, points the way towards Christ. In this podcast, Helen Magdas shows why this is the case and discusses the lessons that can be learned from the example of Joseph.

Saint Catherine, the Great Martyr and Bride of Christ whose feast day we celebrate on November 25 each year, showed much wisdom in her life. In this podcast, we hear from Maria Stavropoulos about this wisdom, its place in our church, and Christ as the Wisdom of God.

In his Epistle to the Galatians, St. Paul counsels us to "bear one another's burdens". In this talk, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios analyses the meaning of this phrase in our lives, including how we can fulfill it and what dangers lie in wait if we are unprepared. To develop those themes, His Eminence also takes us on a rich journey through a rich array of Biblical and patristic texts, including from the time of the fall of Adam and Eve.

As we embark on our journey towards the Nativity of Christ, Professor Socrates Dokos invites us on a journey further back in time to the beginning of the cosmos. In this talk, he reflects on the role that Christ played in the creation of the world itself, and what this means for us.

As we journey towards the Synaxis of Apostles on this first Sunday after Pentecost, the Orthodox Church celebrates the Sunday of All Saints. This week we’re joined by Mrs Anna Dimitriou, member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Group, to commemorate All Saints who have been perfected in piety and have glorified God by their holy lives. On the fiftieth day after the Great and Holy Feast of Pascha, we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost and the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. Today, we commemorate the Sunday of the Holy Fathers. The Church was strengthened into one faith through the preaching of the apostles and the doctrines of the fathers. The Church is robed in truth woven of the word of God from above. It teaches truth, and glorifies the great mystery of faith. Mr Andrew Psarommatis, Member of the Greek Orthodox Christian Society joins us to reflect on this feast day. Mrs Maria Stavropoulos of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Group joins us to discuss the Early Church and the followers of The Way. Today we commemorate the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. The Feast commemorates when, on the fortieth day after His Resurrection, Jesus led His disciples to the Mount of Olives, and after blessing them and asking them to wait for the fulfillment of the promise of the Holy Spirit, He ascended into Heaven. Mr Marios Pasas, Group Leader at the Greek Orthodox Christian Society, will explore the significance of this feast through various hymns and sermons of our Church Fathers. Miss Thomai Coustas, Member of the Greek Orthodox Christian Society, will join us to reflect on the significance of the life of Saint John the Russian,celebrated by the Church on May 27. On the Sixth Sunday of Holy Pascha, we commemorate Christ’s miraculous healing of the Blind Man. We’re joined by Professor Michael Anthony, Co-Founder and Former President of the Greek Orthodox Christian Society to discuss this Sunday’s Gospel reading. We will also reflect on the passage “The beginning of wisdom is the fear of God’, which will be led by Ms Kristina Psychogios, Member of the Greek Orthodox Christian Society. On the 21st of May we celebrate the Feast Day of St Constantine and St Helen. This Fifth Sunday of Holy Pascha, we commemorate the encounter of Christ with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. Our Saint of the Day today is Saint Pachomios the Great. Elisabeth Stylianou from the Greek Orthodox Ladies Group will tell us about the amazing life of this great saint. On the fourth Sunday of Pascha, we are joined by Fr. Dimitri Kokkinos, Parish Priest of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Church at Parramatta, to reflect on the Sunday of the Paralytic. We also take a close look at the life of a newly canonised saint, Saint Ieronymos of Simonopetra, whom the Church celebrates on May the 9th.

On the third Sunday of Pascha in our Journey to Pentecost, we reflect on the Myrrh-bearing women with Dr John Psarommatis, President of the Greek Orthodox Christian Society.
