Why do some of us find it difficult to culturally immerse or integrate into the new country we live in even after so long? Why do we still prefer to hang out with other Filipinos instead of foreigners, eat our own Filipino food instead of what’s local, and celebrate birthday parties like we do back home? I’ve been living abroad for 2 decades now and have met other kababayans who have lived abroad even longer than I have, and there is one thing noticeable about a lot of these kababayans I know: they stick to Filipino traditions and practices and actively seek Filipino friends. Meet Rhea Topacio from Hoofdorp, The Netherlands. Rhea is originally from Las Pinas, Metro Manila. Her company, Pamana Foods, owned together with her husband Dennis Rogacion, was the first to introduce Filipino flavoured ice-cream to the Dutch community having won two National Prizes at the De Nederlandse HORECA Prijzen in 2020. They were the first to manufacture a Filipino beer brand in the Netherlands and also introduced ube, buko pandan and langka flavors through flavouring extracts being distributed to major cities around Europe. Through big ambitions and hard work and the constant need to innovate and develop further to reach her goals in life, hers is an inspiring story of hope, determination and achievement.

Meet Jean Belda Cinjee from Enschede, The Netherlands. Jean will show us how communication is very important in any relationship, but most especially your relationship with your partner. As she battled with depression and homesickness when she moved abroad, her faith kept her going believing that if she openly expresses her feelings and doubts, being true to herself and her Dutch husband will help her survive her challenges of living abroad. Meet Rona Kjerumgaard from Slagelse, Denmark. She is originally from Albay in the Bikol region of the Philippines. It was Rona's first time to travel abroad when she moved to Denmark and little did she know, the adjustments and challenges she faced living in a new culture and a completely different environment than she is used to back home, taught her to be more resilient and even more so, empowered. Meet JKristine Gonzaga Eufinado from Cagayan de Oro City who used to work as an Overseas Filipino Worker in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Her experience working for an elite family as a nanny brought a lot of sacrifices and challenges within her working environment but this did not stop her ambitions to be the best she can and strive hard to make the most out of this experience. Meet Aiza Unal from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Aiza is originally from the northern province of Isabela who moved and worked in Dubai to give her family a better life back home in the Philippines. Meet Mabel from Haarlem, the Netherlands.  She is originally from Lucena City, Philippines. She started out raising her family back home and like other expats, moved to Europe to be with her loved one and continued to raise their kids together in a different country. As time passed by and the kids grew up, Mabel finds more time for herself as she balances work and family life. Little did she know that one big challenge came knocking at their door when the covid pandemic hit and threatened the care that she always provides to her family and loved ones.

Meet Dee from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  A mother of two, who was born and raised in Saudi Arabia by an overseas Filipino worker, her struggles throughout her childhood as a Filipino living in an Arab society, as well as the challenges during her teens re-integrating herself back to the Filipino community, did not stop her from living her life to its full potential.
