The Abbott and Costello radio episode "Job for Girlfriend" aired on August 13, 1943. In the episode, Lou Costello promises his girlfriend Lena a job in Hollywood. However, Lou doesn't actually have a job for her, and he has to scramble to find one.Lou eventually gets Lena a job as a secretary at a movie studio. However, Lena is not very good at her job, and she keeps making mistakes. Lou is constantly having to cover for her, but he's starting to get tired of it.Finally, Lou decides to come clean to Lena. He tells her that he doesn't have a job for her, and that she should go back to New York. Lena is disappointed, but she understands. She tells Lou that she loves him, and that she'll always be there for him.The episode "Job for Girlfriend" is a classic example of Abbott and Costello's unique brand of comedy. Their patter routine "Who's on First?" is considered one of the best-known comedy routines of all time.[1] Their popularity waned in the early 1950s due to overexposure and changing tastes in comedy, and their film and television contracts lapsed. The partnership ended soon afterwards.
