It was a very hard fought match, in which Malmö will certainly feel hard done by the result. It was an extremely vital win for the Black Eagles, an absolute must win match that has now put them right in to contention for a top 24 spot in the league stages of the Europa League. Beşiktaş have come away with a heroic away win at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais after a 72nd minute stunner from Gedson Fernandes following an excellent Rafa Silva through ball! Lyon will definitely feel hard done as the French side created a plethora of chances, mainly in the first half but also early in the second half. But a heroic performance from both Ersin and Felix Uduokhai kept the French at bay. The Black Eagles could've even snatched a bigger victory but couldn't convert their late chances on the break, which resulted in a nail biting end to the match! It's the first time that new coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst has clearly made a major misstep in his Beşiktaş career, rather than sticking to his guns and fielding a team to play our own game and play to our strengths, Gio completely adjusted himself to a histroically average Ajax side by changing around his regular tactics. Originally posted on YouTube in video format.   A review of former Canadian Soccer star Atiba Hutcinson's new book "The Beautiful Dream: a Memoir" by Atiba Hutchinson and Dan Robson. This books covers Atiba's time during his early days as a kid playing football on a local field behind his house with his friends and brother to him reaching the pinnacle of professional football at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. With his international career for the #CanMNT at the centre of the story, it covers his first steps in to European football with several trials at some major European clubs to his first professional contract with Östers IF in Sweden, his subsequent move to Helsingborg IF and his big transfer to FC Copenhagen where he won his first trophies. Coming off of a disappointing loss of points in Trabzon last week, Beşiktaş have squeeked past a stubborn Eyüpspor side thanks to a late penalty goal by Ciro Immobile. The Black Eagles had found themselves in the lead thanks to a wonderful strike from Milot Rashica in the first half, but a penalty from Emre Akbaba had put the visitors level on the hour mark. Beşiktaş were halted to a 3-3 away draw against Lugano last night despite taking the lead twice and going 1-3 up. Gedson Fernandes silenced his critics once again with a stellar performance and a brace, while Al-Musrati scored the third goal for the Black Eagles. But it wasn't enough to put the game beyond the stubborn Swiss side, as Lugano fought back in the first half after going a goal down and even more impressively in the second half after going two goals down. Following last week's win in the Süper Lig season opener against Samsunspor, Beşiktaş have now secured all 3 points against Antalyaspor aswell in their first home game at the Beşiktaş Tüpraş Park! The Black Eagles prevailed despite finding themselves a goal down after less than a minute, following a misplaced pass by Ciro Immobile from the kick-off. Our Italian star striker didn't waste much time however as he scored a first half brace to turn the game on it's head. In the second half Antalyaspor scored early again but this time Rafa Silva dotted the i's and put the Black Eagles back in front. Antalyaspor found themselves going down to ten men later on following a horror challenge by Güray on Rafa and in added time Ernest Muçi scored the fourth coming off the bench on a sublime trivela assist by Cher Ndour. Despite the terrible season that was 2023-2024, Beşiktaş ended it with silverware. That silverware gave them the right to compete in the Turkish Super Cup this past Saturday on August the 3rd against Turkish League champions and fierce rivals Galatasaray. While Beşiktaş were considered the underdogs heading in tot he game, the Black Eagles triumphed in emphatic fashion as they absolutely demolished their city rivals: 5-0. Thanks to a Ciro Immobile brace on his debut. But it wasn't just Immobile who stole the show on Saturday, that other big name debutant Rafa Silva was instrumental in Giovanni van Bronckhorst's tactical plan and stole the show with both his offensive and defensive contributions. The Portuguese wizard scored the 4th goal, was instrumental in the second and assisted the 4th, which was scored by 17-year old Mustafa Erhan Hekimoglu. We weren't holding our breath and for a while it looked like the January transfer window would fizzle out and result in disappointment but the Black Eagles have made two big statement transfers on deadline day! First up Besiktas have signed ERNEST MUCI from Legia Warsaw on a permanent transfer, president Hasan Arat used his connections with the Polish prime minister Duda to get this deal done and personally went over to conclude the negotiations with Legia. Muçi is a 22 year old Albanian international, regarded as a prime talent, he plays primarily as an offensive midfielder but can also play on either wing and as a striker. Second up Besiktas have loaned SC Braga's Libyan defensive midfielder Ali Al-Musrati. Musrati again is a highly regarded player in the Portuguese league, known for his passing ability alongside his defensive capabilities. He's 27 years old, Besiktas have loaned him with an option to buy. And of course Besiktas had already signed the Englishman Joe Worrall earlier int he week from Nottingham Forest, the 27 year old English central defender captained Forest for many years and is known as a very combative defender. Finally Besiktas are also closing in on a deal for FC De Graafschap's 19 year old left winger Basar Önal, again a highly regarded talent from the Dutch second division, Basar holds a Turkish passport alongside his Dutch passport.
