This week's episode focuses on two (of the four) companions our Avowed player character ("The Envoy") will be able to travel with: MARIUS and YATZLI. This week's episode caps off the lore from last week (St. Waidwen & Saint's War) by talking about the Godhammer Bomb (the thing that ended the Saint's War...and St. Waidwen, I suppose), the Dozens (a faction which arose from a dozen self-sacrificing soldiers), and what REALLY happened at Evon Dewr bridge (where the bomb was detonated).

Sun, 15 Sep 2024 - 1h 09min - 128 - Ep. #108: All The Recent Avowed Content (Gamescom, Demo, and News Articles)
Boy howdy is this episode a long one. But hey, there was ALOT to go over. If you're new this show, World of Eora, is about Pillars of Eternity & Avowed (since they both share the same fantasy world). Mostly I focus on lore, today I'm putting a balanced focus on news and lore.
Now, here's the thing (and I say this at the start of the episode) - because this episode is uncharacteristically long, I'm not going to have another episode up next week. Simply so that those of you who budget their podcast time can catch up. As well, though, it's a good time for me to take a week of with my family. I've been considering taking the week of a stat holiday off of recording anyways, so this is a good chance to try that.
Anyways, so, listen to this as fast or as slow as you want, there isn't an episode next week. Hope y'all enjoy!
Sat, 31 Aug 2024 - 1h 55min - 127 - "Drawn In Winter" Caught my eye...
Hi Everyone,
With a personally busy week and weekend combined with the MASSIVE amount of stuff we saw for Avowed this week, I simply cannot keep up with all of it (I haven't even seen all the videos all the way through or read/skimmed all the articles yet). So, I'm making the decision to post-pone a full episode until next week to do an overview of it all.
That said, I caught ONE thing amongst all the news that caught my attention. A weapon in Avowed called "Drawn in Winter" shares a similar naming scheme to a Pillars of Eternity dagger called "Drawn In Spring"; the funny thing is... the lore written in Drawn in Spring's item description has something to do with the Living Lands... mayhaps it describes something we could find in Avowed?
Mon, 26 Aug 2024 - 08min - 126 - Ep. #107: The Penitential Regency of Readceras
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode is about a rather important nation in the "new world", called READCERAS. Originally the colony of Aedyr, and then the Divine Kingdom of Readceras, this nation has it's own interesting origins/history that leads to one of the most important events in recent history (in relation to Pillars 1): The Saint's War.
Sun, 18 Aug 2024 - 43min - 125 - Ep. #106: "History of Eora" Anthology, Pt. 2: Dyrwood-related Tomes (Vols. 2 & 3)
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode is a continuation of the "History of Eora" series I am plinking away at, where we look at the esoteric in-game "History of Eora" lore-books from the Forgotten Sanctum DLC in the second Pillars games. This week, I focus on Dyrwood related tomes (Dyrwood being the setting for Pillars 1), which results in a shorter episode (which I do on purpose, just getting back into the swing of things post-vacation). We learn about the very first Hollowborn (and what it is) as well as the inciting events that founded the nation of Readceras.
Sun, 11 Aug 2024 - 30min - 124 - [BONUS] Ep. #105.5: Some Podcast Outtakes
Hey, I'm on vacation this week, so no new full episode...BUT I didn't wanna leave y'all hanging so here's a quick little episode about one giant piece of news, followed by two minutes of me making mistakes in a few podcast episodes over the many months of this show's existence. I hope (some of) you will enjoy it.
Sun, 04 Aug 2024 - 04min - 123 - Ep. #105: The Hand Occult
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode is regarding a Wael-affiliated faction (Wael being the god of dreams/mysteries/secrets/revelations) "The Hand Occult", whose primary focus is the control of flow of esoteric knowledge.
Mon, 29 Jul 2024 - 32min - 122 - Ep. #104: "The History of Eora" Anthology [Avowed Related], Vols. 5, 12, 7, then 2...
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode I dive into the in-game "History of Eora" anthology, which as been requested for quite a while. I don't do all 16 entries of these books in this episode, I just pick the ones I think could be related to Avowed / Living Lands in some way. It gets pretty interesting, and we draw some connections which might be seen in the game of Avowed.
I *will* be doing future episodes on the other 12, but likely in just 4-book segments, done topically.
Mon, 22 Jul 2024 - 40min - 121 - Ep. #103: Aedyr Revisited
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
In this week's episode I revisit the lore of the Aedyr Empire, its people, its history, and their language. This is largely a summation of lore that I did a few years ago (check out Ep. 4-6, and some afterwarsd) about this. However, with the involvement of Aedyr mentioned in the Avowed trailers of recent I decided it was time to give a decent overview in an updated way. So, here's to the Aedyr Empire! Happy Feast of Feasts!
Mon, 15 Jul 2024 - 42min - 120 - Ep. #102: Inquisitor Lödwyn & The Steel Garrote
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode focuses on Inquisitor Lödwyn, and the paladin order she helps lead, the Steel Garotte. Most of the lore will be about the Paladin order, but we tie it back to the Inquisitor. This lore is also associated to the goddess of Law, Woedica; and the empire of Aedyr. All of which is discussed (a bit) and speculated upon for Avowed. For instance...why did Obsidian choose The Steel Garrote over all the other potential factions? Did they need a Woedican faction? And Aedyran-origin faction? Who knows...
Mon, 08 Jul 2024 - 40min - 119 - Ep. #101: Speculation Episode!
DISCLAIMER: [read full disclaimer] This episode contains major spoilers for Pillars of Eternity I & II. The episode is split into two parts, the first are my theories which are SPOILER-FREE, but the second part (which are community-submitted theories) I do not hold back any spoiler-related ideas. There is a musical interlude segmenting these two parts, so you'll be able to know when to jump out if you need to.
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode is all about speculation! Whether it's game mechanics, narratives mysteries, character progression, or potential story twists - we got it all. And by "we" I mean myself, and those who submitted theories on Reddit!
Mon, 01 Jul 2024 - 1h 00min - 118 - Ep. #100: Overview of the Avowed Deep Dive Video (ALSO HAPPY EPISODE 100 EVERYBODY :))
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's ONE HUNDREDTHepisode features a decently in-depth overview of the Avowed Deep Dive, as seen on Xbox's Official Youtube Channel. There's *a lot* to cover here, so I won't even list it all. Suffice it to say, it's all very interesting. There's a good mix of lore and gameplay related discussion today :)
As well, just a BIG thank you to all who've been on this journey with me with this podcast (whether you've been here since the beginning, or you jumped on recently). It's been a wonderful 100 episodes, and I can't wait to aim for 100 more (we will see how much lore we can parse from Avowed, I suppose). So thanks to you, the listeners; and thanks to Obsidian for their support and just creating an awesome world for us to camp in each week :)
Mon, 24 Jun 2024 - 1h 03min - 117 - Ep. #99: Avowed Story Trailer LORE!!!
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode we cover A LOT! (1) an overview of the all the news related to Avowed (up to the point of recording, that is); and (2) we dive into the Story Trailer for Avowed to discuss all the topics of LORE we see within.
If you're at all interested in the world Avowed takes place in, this episode is a nice one to start in on. We discuss the empire your player character comes from, who the lady with fire-eyes is, and a bit about what might have gone on in the Living Lands (Avowed's setting) a long time ago.
Mon, 17 Jun 2024 - 47min - 115 - Ep. #98: Esteemed Vailian Explorer, Fulvano
DISCLAIMER: I am a bit sick during the time of this recording, so I apologize if my voice sounds off. The crackling you hear is not my mic, it's my voice haha. The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode follows the last leg of famed Vailian explorer, Fulvano, in the first Pillars of Eternity game. Will we see Fulvano in Avowed? Almost assuredly not. However, might Fulvano have already visited the Living Lands and left stuff for us to find? Almost assuredly maybe.
Tue, 04 Jun 2024 - 48min - 114 - Ep. #97: The Grand Adventures (Pt. I) of Caed Nua
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode looks at a few off-screen adventures you send player companions on as part of your title of "Watcher of Caed Nua". In these adventures we see references to lore/stories otherwise not mentioned elsewhere in the game(s). Using these context clues and other pieces of lore, we examine what's going on and what it could mean for other narratives in Eora.
Mon, 20 May 2024 - 49min - 113 - Ep. #96: "Six Degrees of Separation"
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode focuses on the story of several NPCs in the first Pillars of Eternity game, and narrows in on the connective tissue between their stories, backstories, relationships and side quests.
Random side note, I had recorded some thoughts on the Tango & Arkane closures but removed them just because I don't think it was necessary for me to do so. But I do think it's sad, and wonder what it means for the industry. If you'd like to strike up a conversation send me an email. Also, I'm sure we will talk about it on Avowedcast; perhaps I'll say something next week after thinking. Anyways, that was nothing that needed to be said, but there it is...
Mon, 13 May 2024 - 37min - 112 - Ep. #95: Engwithan Ruins in the Dyrwood
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Warning: The second HALF of this episode contains major spoilers for Pillars of Eternity 1.
This week's episode focuses on the ruined sites of Engwithan structures/locales within the Dyrwood (the setting for the first Pillars of Eternity game). We explore the purposes behind these places/facilities, and discuss some of their ancient secrets.
Mon, 06 May 2024 - 33min - 111 - Ep. #94: Toamowhai (and other Seeker, Slayer, Survivor DLC Lore)
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode focuses on the "Seeker, Slayer Survivor" DLC for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. The focus is going to be on the 'god' of Toamowhai, but it will also include lore on the surrounding island (Kazuwari) and the Temple/Crucible you spend a lot of time at (Temple of Toamowhai), as well as the story of what's going on there.
The first portion of today's episode are spoiler-free, but be warned the second portion contain MAJOR SPOILERS for the DLC of this game, so keep that in mind moving forward.
Sun, 28 Apr 2024 - 42min - 110 - Ep. #93: Naasitaq and Sagani
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
In this week's episode I focus on one of the nations within the world of Eora setting. It's one we hear about a lot, but don't actually have a single substantial source of lore for. There's a lot to be said, however, when you add it all up. After discussing Naasitaq and its culture, I redirect attention to a Pillars of Eternity (1) companion character, Sagani, and discuss her particular story.
Mon, 22 Apr 2024 - 40min - 109 - Ep. #92: The Great Reef
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode is about "the Great Reef", a naturally occurring structure of the Deadfire Archipelago which may hold deeper secrets than we know. This lore, as far as I can tell, is only found in the Guidebook for Pillars, and not the game itself. So, this may be new info for a lot of us!
Mon, 15 Apr 2024 - 29min - 108 - Ep. #91: A War of Saints (not to be confused with "The Saints War")
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode we pit several religious figures from the world of Eora's histories against each other to ask "who would win a fight"... Maybe not a 'fight' as in 'fisticuffs', but in terms of subduing one another. We have five interesting characters throughout Eora's history, each with their own unique abilities that they can bring. Aside from that, the lore behind each character is also interesting for new and old players alike. Hope you enjoy today's episode!
Mon, 08 Apr 2024 - 47min - 107 - Ep. #90: Sea Shanties of Deadfire
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
NOTE: there's an important question near the end of the episode (in the 44min area) that I'd like some feedback on.
This week's episode was very randomly decided upon, but the bottom line is: in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire there are some sea shanties you hear sung when sailing throughout the Deadfire Archipelago (the setting for that game). While the lyrics to these songs aren't plumbing the depths of esoteric lore, they do allude to ideas and moments that occur within this fantasy world; and I think it's writing like that which really gives life to a fictional world. So, in honour of that, let's take a look at the lyrical content for the Sea Shanties from the second Pillars of Eternity game...
Mon, 01 Apr 2024 - 50min - 106 - Ep. #89: The Shieldbearers of St. Elcga
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
In this week's episode we focus on a particular Paladin order within this world (Paladins being individuals you'd classify as "martial zealots"), "The Shieldbearers of St. Elcga". We learn a little bit about their origins, what they stand for, what they condone. As well a bit about the history of this noblewoman, Elcga, in Aedyr's history...Aedyr being the empire that you Avowed player character will hail from.
Mon, 25 Mar 2024 - 28min - 105 - Ep. #88: The Legendary Adventures from Caed Nua
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode breaks down five off-screen adventures from the first Pillars game. These five adventures are of the "Legendary" tier in the game, and as such they have a lot of really interesting and esoteric lore to go over. Honestly, they create more questions than provide answers, but sometimes it's that speculative lore that really gets you into this stuff, ya know?

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting as developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed
Today's episode touches on the last of the main creatures we see in the bestiary for Pillars of Eternity, both of these creatures have decent precedence set for being in Avowed (but whether they are or not, we don't yet know). So I figured, worth taking a look at. Skuldrs are kind of a person-sized humanoid bat creature, the Trolls are... well, trolls! But we discuss/speculate a little on how it is they regenerate health.

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode discusses the remainder of the creatures in the "Vessel" category in the bestiary. Vessel creatures are basically things/people that have a weird relationship to a soul being implanted in them (or not leaving when it should) causing a new type of creature/thing to exist as a result. It's very interesting, and tied deeply to important lore/topics in the world of Eora (souls, metaphysics, animancy, etc.)

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode we look at the other confirmed Avowed companion: Giatta Castell. In looking at her short bio in her Cosplay Guide (which you can find on Avowed's website) we learn a bit about who she is, where she (or more specifically, where her family) comes from, and what's going on in her life (recently).
Topics today are:

The World of Eora is a lore podcast about the fantasy setting/world developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG Pillars of Eternity series, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode we take a brief look at Kai, and look behind his single paragraph of lore (from the Kai cosplay guide) to understand who he is, where he comes from, and all that entails. This episode is MOSTLY a discussion on RAUATAI, the empire that Kai would hail from, and the culture that influences his character in the game of Avowed.

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting for Obsidian Entertainment's cRPG 'Pillars of Eternity' series, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode focuses a little more on gameplay and a little less on lore - but don't worry, there'll still be some lore to go over. In this episode we will review over a dozen abilities seen in Avowed's trailer(s), and look at how those abilities worked in Pillars to speculate on how they might work for the upcoming game.

The World of Eora is a lore podcast about the unique fantasy world created by Obsidian Entertainment for use in their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode takes a dedicated look at the setting for Avowed: THE LIVING LANDS. Now, I did cover a lot of this lore in episode two, but that was...three years ago now, and was more speculative than this episode is. I hope you enjoy learning about the setting Avowed will be played in, and it got your imaginations going about what we might get to see in the game.

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
In today's episode we discuss everything that we learned from the Xbox "Extended Developer Direct", hosted by the official Xbox Podcast, including a lot of gameplay related news and some pieces of lore...including two major lore dumbs: the name of the spiritual plague we are sent to investigate, and the presence of an ARCHMAGE in Avowed.
Mon, 29 Jan 2024 - 30min - 97 - Ep. #80: Xbox Developer_Direct Breakdown for Avowed's Deep Dive
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG Pillars of Eternity series, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode is an exciting one, I go through the entire Avowed Deep Dive pulling out all the contextual lore that both old listeners and new listeners will be able to enjoy.
The topics covered today range from Souls, Companions (one named Giatta), the Aedyr Empire (where we are from), the Living Lands (where Avowed is played), Xaurips (the reptilian enemies we fight), as well as some soul-based metaphysical lore such as "The Wheel" (cycle of reincarnation) and much more...
check out avowed.obsidian.net for some Cosplay guides on Giatta or Kai, as well as some jpegs from the game.
Lastly, I recommend several episodes to go check out if you are new, here are some for you to look up:

Today's episode focuses on a specific society of Dwarf called the "Pargrunen". They are mentioned primarily in the White March DLCs for the first Pillars game. The notable thing for this episode is that these dwarves have been to other locations in the world of Eora, including The Living Lands (where Avowed is set). So, perhaps they (or some of their culture) can be found in the game. Who knows?
In the latter half of the episode I just quickly go over my top10 list of games I enjoyed in 2023 (even though some didn't release in that year), and give shout-outs to some of YOUR personal GOTYs from 2023.

Mon, 08 Jan 2024 - 40min - 94 - Ep. #77: Wilders, pt. I - Lagufaeths, Ogres and Eotens
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting as seen in Obsidian Entertainment's cRPG Pillars of Eternity series, and their upcoming RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode discusses some "wilders", which are creatures who have sentience/intelligence (enough to even form their own cultures), but for one reason or another do not enter into the "civilized" societies we see in the world-wide playing field. In particular we look at a 4-armed amphibian race, called Lagufaeths; and the hulking, usually-hostile, Ogre race (and their Eoten cousins).
Mon, 25 Dec 2023 - 33min - 93 - [BONUS]. Ep. #76.5: Spirits (the drinky kind, not the ghosties)
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy setting/world used in Obsidian Entertainment's cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming aRPG: Avowed.
Today's episode is just a bonus episode, no big ticket lore items to discuss, just an overview of some fantasy-made alcoholic beverages (and a few non-alcoholic) as seen within the games themselves. Mostly it was just a play on words for the title of the previous episode, also looking at "Spirits".

Mon, 18 Dec 2023 - 26min - 92 - Ep. #76: Spirits (as in ghosts, not beverages)
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting as seen in Obsidian Entertainment's cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming RPG: Avowed.
Continuing on from last episode in the categories of 'Bestiary', today we are looking at Spirits, that is creatures which are incorporeal in nature. Typically you'd think of ghostly creatures, such as Phantoms, Shadows, Will-o-Wisp, etc.
Mon, 11 Dec 2023 - 27min - 91 - Ep. #75: Primordial Creatures in Eora
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy setting/world for Obsidian Entertainment's Pillars of Eternity cRPG series, and their upcoming RPG: Avowed.

Tue, 28 Nov 2023 - 38min - 90 - Ep. #74: The Tribes of Eir Glanfath
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy setting as seen in Obsidian Entertainment's Pillars of Eternity cRPG series, and their upcoming RPG: Avowed.
Today marks a return to podcasting, for me, as I took a break recently to work on my mental health. As a result I will be returning to a bi-weekly (or is it bi-monthly?) schedule, so expect to see another episode in two more weeks.
Today's episode is about the "Tribes of Eir Glanfath", which I have talked about *a lot* in other episodes but surprisingly I don't seem to have an episode just about them. I checked, like...three times, I never found one. I don't know, either way hope you enjoy the episode.
Oh! Also, there's one part where I don't understand what it is the lore is saying...it's when I talk about travel customs in Glanfathan traditions...let me know if you understood what it was saying.
Mon, 13 Nov 2023 - 43min - 89 - Podcast Update!
Just a quick update on myself and this podcast, there's going to be a (hopefully) brief interruption in the content, as I take some time off this month to recover from a sudden and alarming depressive bout. To be clear I am not leaving this show or abandoning it, I enjoy making the content and think it's beneficial for me overall; just at this current time I need to prioritize other areas of my life and reintroduce things like this one at a time.
If you have any questions comments concerns, (Eora related or otherwise) send me an email:
Tue, 10 Oct 2023 - 02min - 88 - Ep. #73: [PART 2] D&D 5e Ruleset in Eora (setting) - Minimalist Transposition (Classes, Subclasses, Spells))
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting for Obsidian Entertainment's cRPG Pillars of Eternity series, as well as their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode is the second "half" of a two part series on "How to play D&D in Eora". I call it a 'brute force minimalist transposition'. How it works is that we look at the ruleset as it exists in D&D 5e, and we (with as little finicking as possible) shoe-horn that ruleset to fit into the Eoran world as a setting.
I'll be honest, TODAY's episode is where we see the most "work" needing to be done. Just to make the classes/subclasses fit with the lore, and how to approach spells (and their restrictions).
Mon, 02 Oct 2023 - 53min - 87 - Ep. #72: D&D 5e Ruleset in Eora (setting) - Minimalist Transposition (Races, Subraces, Monsters)
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Eora, the world/setting of Obsidian Entertainment's cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed. https://reddit.com/r/projecteternity/s/VGhNa67c6Q Today's episode is a unique one, and less focused on lore (though it is necessarily discussed) but on how to play D&D 5e in the world of Eora as a setting. Be forewarned, this is not a thorough-going homebrew or conversion - this is a transposition of existed core D&D5e rules shoe-horned *into* the setting of Eora. I discuss "the pitch" you can give to your tabletop crew, and what lore is vital for new players to understand. As well, we go over what races you can use from core D&D in lieu of the unique races in Eora. Lastly, we discuss monsters, but that part is really short. worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora
Mon, 18 Sep 2023 - 38min - 86 - Ep. #71: Various Lore from the "Pillars of Eternity TabletopRPG"
IMPORTANT: At the end of the episode I recommend a YouTube channel to you, but because of "stupid brain", I misspelled their channel name. It's SENTEGRAPHS. Check them out for a 'Lorethrough' of Pillars of Eternity. It's excellent stuff. The World of Eora podcast is a news/lore program about the fantasy world/setting developed by Obsidian Entertainment for use in their cRPG Pillars of Eternity series, and their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed. Today I dive in to the "Pillars of Eternity Pen & Paper" version of the game. Yes, that's correct; if you didn't already know Pillars DOES have a TTRPG for it. It's currently unfinished, but you can playtest it for free by downloading a .PDF from their website. In there it's most rules and mechanics, but there is some lore - lore which is previously unseen or unheard of from other official sources. I do not know if we can consider it canon, but still, it's great to look at. worldofeora@gmail.com @worldofeora
Mon, 11 Sep 2023 - 33min - 85 - Ep. #70: Discussing "soft lore" of Fighters, Rogues and Barbarians in Eora
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting created by Obsidian Entertainment used in their cRPG Pillars of Eternity series, and their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode I'm describing as "soft lore", which means that we are using lore from other areas (particularly areas of the soul, reincarnation, and whatnot) to ask "what gives fighters/rogues/barbarians the special powers they have?" Because, here's the thing, all those classes of character in Eora are doing near-superhuman feats, and that *must* mean magic is involved somehow; but we aren't privy to a lot of definitely explanations. So, using lore we DO have, I engage in a more speculative discussion on applying the rules of the world to those classes to ascertain how it us they might work, behind the scenes. I hope you enjoy today's talk.

Mon, 04 Sep 2023 - 30min - 84 - Ep. #69 [lol]: The Ranger Class
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting used in Obsidian Entertainment's cRPG Pillars of Eternity series, and their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode looks at the unique lore for the 'Ranger' class. If you've played or consumed fantasy media at all, you're probably familiar with the ranger character archetype (woodsman, huntsmen, good at archery, has an animal companion, makes magic berries sometimes...). Rangers are all that in Eora, but their lore goes a little deeper than that. Especially in regards to their animal companions.
Mon, 28 Aug 2023 - 27min - 83 - Ep. #68: Vithracks (humanoid spider psionic people)
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about games and media placed in the fantasy setting/world developed by Obsidian Entertainment, particularly for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode looks at one of the unique sentient creatures that exist in the world of Eora called "Vithracks". Who I've often just called "humanoid spider psionic people". They are one of my favourite creatures in *any* fantasy setting. And if I could justifiably role-play it in-game, I'd start a non-profit "Kith Against Vithrack Abuse", spreading the word about their non-hostility (although, they can be quite hostile).
Anyways...

Tue, 22 Aug 2023 - 20min - 82 - Ep. #67: "Forgotten Hollow", an off-screen companion adventure (good for a TableTop game)
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the unique fantasy setting/world used in Obsidian Entertainment's cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode looks at one of the off-screen companion adventures (beginning of the episode explains what that is) you encounter in the first Pillars of Eternity game. We run through the pitch/hook of the adventure, and give context on all the lore.
With a little work this adventure could be implemented into YOUR tabletop roleplaying game, even DnD 5e (whether you're playing in Faerun, Eora, or otherwise).

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting created for Obsidian Entertainment's Pillars of Eternity cRPG series, and their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode is a follow-up from last week's episode on the Undead (such as Skeletons, Fampyrs and Revenants). This week focuses, instead, on Lichs - a very powerful and immortal form of Undead, and Void Seers (which are essentially floating magic-filled skulls). To top it all of we look at the brief story of Concelhaut, a powerful mage-turned-lich in the world of Eora.
Mon, 31 Jul 2023 - 30min - 80 - Ep. #65: The Undead, and their "lifespan"
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting created by Obsidian Entertainment and used in their Pillars of Eternity cRPG series, as well as their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode features discussions on Undead enemies in fantasy, in particular the world of Eora. Skeletons don't just get up for no good reason, and sometimes those reasons go beyond mere "because is fantasy". Explore the lore with me, today, as we dive into the lore for Undead creatures...how they're made, what their "lifespan" is like, and what ultimately happens to them...
Sun, 23 Jul 2023 - 25min - 79 - [BONUS] Ep. #64.5: A Court of Spirits (Minor Stronghold Adventure)
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their Pillars of Eternity cRPG series, and for their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode is a short episode; I'm out of town this week volunteering at a Youth Camp, so I recorded something short and sweet just to make sure you had *something* to chew on while I was away.
Today's lore comes from a set of Stronghold Adventures from Pillars of Eternity, wherein you can send your idle companions in the game on their own adventures without you, bringing you back rewards and unique items.
This episode looks over the lore in one such minor adventure, "a Court of Spirits", which is about a group of arguing ghosts near a pillar of Adra.
Sun, 16 Jul 2023 - 13min - 78 - Ep. #64: Yezuha & Rekke

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy setting/world developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their Pillars of Eternity cRPG series, and their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode is regarding one of the sidekicks from Pillars II, namely: "Rekke", a Storm Folk voiced by none other than Sam Riegel of Critical Role (actually there's a lot of CR vocal talent in this game). As well we dive into the known lore (and speculations) about where Rekke comes from, the enigmatic and intriguing hidden nation of Yezuha.

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting used in Obsidian Entertainment's Pillars of Eternity series, and their upcoming first-person RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode comes in the wake of all the news/videos revealed recently. I've requested and collected all sorts of speculations and theories regarding Avowed (gameplay, game systems, lore, narrative, etc.) and placed them in this episode. The first half of the episode is gameplay and game systems, the latter half is lore and narrative. There's a real bang-on theory I really like submitted by ThanksToDenial on Reddit around the 45(ish) minute mark.
Enjoy! :)

Today's episode comes by popular demand; we are looking at one of the companions you have in the first Pillars game, named Durance. He's an incredibly written character, well voice-acted, and whose story is woven deeply into the game's narrative. He's also kind of an ugly dude...

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting used by Obsidian Entertainment for their Pillars of Eternity games, as well as their upcoming release: AVOWED.
Today's episode looks at the human races in Eora, and their subraces. Each subrace of human is generally tied to a particular culture, so by learning the differences between humans we can know how to identify different cultures in this fantasy world.
Also, I apologize for the bad recording quality, I didn't realize until too late that the echo in the room was noticeable and my mic was picking up background noises easily. I suppose my latest software update might've reset some of those things, but that's no excuse for poor quality - I just want you to understand how it happened. I edited as much cruft as I could, but sadly there's still a little in there.

Today's episode looks at one of the races in Eora: dwarves. While most of us are familiar with a dwarf from other fantasy-based media, Obsidian's take on dwarves a little bit different. Sure, they're still short, stout and bearded, but their natural instincts and history with the world are unique compared to other settings.

This episode, surprisingly, has NO SPOILERS WHATSOEVER. The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the games and fantasy setting (Eora) used for Obsidian Entertainment's Pillars of Eternity series and Avowed.
Today's episode looks at one of the eleven gods in Eora's pantheon, more specifically the "evil god", Skaen. However Skaen is not just an evil god for evil's sake - there are layers to this deity and his divine purposes. He's still evil, though, no argument there...but at the very least *why* he (and his followers) are evil is misunderstood (and no, not in a tragic anti-hero kind of way). Join me in the conversation about Skaen, the Quiet Slave.
Shout-outs at the end of the episode to some Spotify listeners who've been responding to the new *automatic* QnA feature in Spotify podcasts; as well as a read-out of a 5* review on Apple Podcasts. Always love acknowledging anyone who puts effort into those little write-ups, and they make my day :)

These bonus episodes come every off-week to offer bite-sized episodes of lore, usually to supplement the previous week's full episode.
Today we discuss 'The Battle of Nakaro Atoll', which was *the* notable conflict between the Wahiki tribes of the Huana peoples (those native to the Deadfire Archipelago), and the foreign body of Rauatiains known as 'the Royal Deadfire Company'. If you're new to any of this that was probably a lot of information you didn't understand. The episode is only 10 minutes, so perhaps by listening it'll help illuminate some of that for you xD

Taking place only three years after the events of the first game, but in a far off smattering of islands. Filled with island tribes, and new factions from faraway empires, the events that occur in the Deadfire show both the breadth and depth of Obsidian writing. As far as the world's lore is concerned, it shows the events of some of the world's major players, and could affect Avowed, depending on when it takes place in relation to Pillars II.

Mon, 09 Jan 2023 - 33min - 52 - [BONUS] Ep. #45: The Story of One-Eyed Molina
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the Obsidian Entertainment original fantasy world used in the Pillars of Eternity games, as well as their upcoming release: AVOWED.
This episode will (hopefully) be one of many bonus episodes I put out. I'm aiming to move toward regular *weekly* content, but cannot commit to full length episodes each week (usually I record one week, edit the next). However, I've grown in my skills/efficiency in podcasting so I'm going to start my journey toward weekly episodes by putting out bonus content on (what has been up until now) the "off" weeks.
As "bonus" content, I am not guaranteeing it'll be up time, but I am endeavouring to make that a pattern. If it's something I can sustain for a long period of time, then it can become the new regular :)
This episode features the story of a pirate named One-Eyed Molina, and how she became that person. If you ever run a Dnd-style game in the Deadfire Archipelago, perhaps you can consider including her in the world.
Sun, 01 Jan 2023 - 10min - 51 - Ep. #45: Chanters!
MERRY CHRISTMAS! The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the Obsidian-made fantasy world used in Pillars of Eternity and Avowed. In today's not-so-very Christmas episode, we discuss Chanters...a class within character creation from Pillars games, but also a group of people tied to the lore and history of their culture. Join with me in the last episode of 2022 as we discuss these interesting lore keepers and storytellers.
Mon, 26 Dec 2022 - 31min - 50 - Ep. #44: Galawain, Lord of the Hunt (in all of its forms)
"The World of Eora" is a news/lore podcast about Obsidian Entertainment's Pillars of Eternity games, as well as their upcoming release: AVOWED.
Today's episode discusses GALAWAIN, one of the eleven deities in the fantasy world of these games, Eora. Galawain is the deity of pursuit, discovery, and hunting (etc.). There's *a lot* that Obsidian could put into Avowed from Galawain-ian (?) lore. Join me today in discussing this!

Mon, 12 Dec 2022 - 47min - 49 - Ep. #43: Magran, goddess of Fire & War
The World Of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Obsidian Entertainment's unique fantasy world: EORA, used as the setting for their Pillars of Eternity games as well as their upcoming release: Avowed.
Today's episode is about one of the eleven deities of the world, and likely to be mentioned to interacted with in Avowed: MAGRAN (mah-gran): Goddess of Fire & War (and trials and purification...and consumption... and transformation). We go over her official description, as well as go over the religious aspects of following Magran.
Mon, 28 Nov 2022 - 35min - 48 - EP. #43: Hitting the Random-Button on Pillars Lore
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Obsidian Entertainment's original fantasy setting, Eora. Used in their Pillars of Eternity games, as well as their upcoming release: Avowed.
Today's episode is a "backup" episode I have recorded in case I end up not being able to record (due to availability, or sickness, etc). What I essentially do is I go onto the Pillars of Eternity Fandom website and click the button labelled "Random"; and assuming there's actual lore or something to go over, I read out the description and elaborate on it.
In this episode I discuss a bit about the Fighter class, and how they work; a temple dedicated to Rymrgand; a putty that makes you thief good; a story about a Nasitaaq woman; and more. Hope you enjoy it! I'll see you all in a couple weeks.

Mon, 14 Nov 2022 - 26min - 47 - Ep. #42: Monks, and their Monastic Orders
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the games and fantasy setting used in Pillars of Eternity I & II as well as Obsidian Entertainmenet's upcoming release: Avowed.
Today's episode we chat about MONKS, a playable character class in the Pillars games and (hopefully?) in Avowed. This came in as a request by a listener to talk about. At first I didn't think there was much here, but then boom! Fifty minutes of episode later, here we are. The monks are way different than what I'm used to in other fantasy RPG monks, they're a bit disturbing at times. Their monk orders are even more bonkers. It's a fun episode, I hope you like it.
Mon, 31 Oct 2022 - 50min - 46 - Ep. #41: Deadfire Religious Factions
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Pillars of Eternity games, and Obsidian's upcoming RPG: Avowed.
This episode focuses on some religious factions found within the Deadfire lore, some of which are only found in the guidebook from which today's content is from.
This is the first episode I do with my wrist injury, so any feedback on the episode is appreciated.

Mon, 17 Oct 2022 - 47min - 45 - Ep. #40: Factions of the Twin Elms (inc. ETHIK NOL)
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Eora, the Obsidian-original fantasy setting for Pillars of Eternity *and* Avowed (when it's out).
Today's episode we focus on more "other" factions we see in Pillars 1, specifically in the Glanfathan city of Twin Elms. There are 6 tribes that form the city's gov't; as well as two druidic orders to look at. One of which I find fascinating: The Ethik Nol, an order of dwarven cultists who perform ritual sacrifice...on willing subjects. Yeah, they're an odd set of ducks, as far as ducks are concerned anyways.
Mon, 03 Oct 2022 - 38min - 44 - Ep. #39: Pillars of Eternity "Other" Factions, Pt. I
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Obsidian Entertainment's fantasy world, Eora, as seen in Pillars of Eternity I & II and their upcoming release: Avowed.
Today's episode we read through Vol. 1 of the Pillars guidebooks (the one about the first game) to read about some of the more minor factions in the world. Specifically we look at The Dozens, Knights of the Crucible, House Doemenal, Dunryd Row, and Hounds of Galawain; with honourable mentions going to The Society of the Talon, as well as The Hand Occult.

Mon, 19 Sep 2022 - 38min - 43 - Ep. #38: The Cipher Class
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy setting found in Pillars of Eternity I & II, and Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming release: AVOWED.
Today's episode we discuss Obsidian's unique and original class created for the world: CIPHERS; which are like the Eoran analog of a Psionic class. We take a look at the mechanics of how Ciphers even work at all.

Mon, 05 Sep 2022 - 28min - 42 - EP. #37: Orlans
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy setting for the Obsidian Entertainment games: Pillars of Eternity, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, and AVOWED.
Today's lore focuses on one of the unique races for Eora, the "Orlan". Which you could think of as a hairy, long-and-pointed-ear halfling, if you need a comparison; but really, as a unique fantasy race on its own, there's really no comparison. I guess you'll just have to listen to the episode to find out, eh? :)
DISCLAIMER: Due to a personal scheduling confliction with when I usually record, I had to record this very early in the morning, which is why my voice is a bit different sounding. Both due to (a) morning voice, and (b) trying to maintain my vocal volume. As well, due to the remaining heat wave in our area, I had my windows open so the early morning cool air would keep my home cool. As a result, one of Hylea avian attendants sat by the open window to offer their knowledge on the World of Eora...that is to say, a morning bird was singing its song a lot (near the end of the episode). I apologize for the unprofessionalism; though I will say, the birdsong is actually a benefit, IMO.

Mon, 22 Aug 2022 - 33min - 41 - Ep. #36: [NPC Spoilers] Llengrath, the Archmage
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast for Avowed & Pillars of Eternity (I & II), games developed by Obsidian Entertainment.
Today's episode follows up on the previous episode about the Archmages of Eora. Here, we discuss one mage specifically: Llengrath; and even more specifically how she...he...they... are striving towards immortality.
This episode contains spoilers for Llengrath's backstory, as discovered in the Forgotten Sanctum DLC in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. It is not the DLC narrative that is spoiled, only Llengrath's backstory, which you can learn about organically in-game when playing through quests.
Mon, 08 Aug 2022 - 25min - 40 - Ep. #35: The Circle of Archmagi
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Pillars of Eternity I & II, as well as Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming release: Avowed. All these games share the same fantasy world, called Eora. Today's episode focuses on an exclusive group of esoteric archmagi whose involvement in the world is often deep, mysterious, and cataclysmic.
This episode is a long one, I wanted to put out an episode that justifies there not having been one in a while. It's also a spoiler-free episode. So there is some content not discussed on the episode, but I will return to it for a spoiler-heavy episode on another day.
Thanks all for your patience, hope you enjoy it :)
Mon, 18 Jul 2022 - 57min - 39 - Ep. #34: Watchers
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Obsidian Entertainment's fantasy world, Eora, used in the Pillars of Eternity games, as well as their upcoming release: AVOWED.
Watchers play an instrumental role in the history of Eora, and are notable individuals for their unique innate ability to interact with souls, and the essence souls are made of.
In Pillars 1&2 you play as a Watcher, and as such, understanding what a watcher is will help you understand your character that much more. As well, given the significance of watchers within the lore, its probable we will interact with watchers in some way, shape or form in the game of Avowed. Perhaps we might even be a watcher ourselves, who knows.

Mon, 20 Jun 2022 - 35min - 38 - Ep. #33: The Goddess, Ondra
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about EORA, a uniquely made fantasy world, developed by Obsidian Entertainmentfor their Pillars of Eternitygames, as well as their in-development release: AVOWED.
Today's episode we return to the Eoran pantheon to take a look at the goddess of forgetfulness, Ondra (or, "Ngati", depending on who you ask). We go over her attributes, her domains, her priesthood, and cap off the episode asking the question 'will we see Ondra, or her devoted, in Avowed?'.

Mon, 30 May 2022 - 40min - 37 - Ep. #32: Xaurips in Pillars of Eternity & Avowed
DISCLAIMER: This episode was originally intended to be finished for *next* week, but since I finished it early, I decided to put it out now. I say this because I didn't wish you Moms out there a Happy Mother's Day in the show. So here it is now: HAPPY MOTHER's DAY!!! :)
---
The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about Obsidian Entertainment's games Pillars of Eternity I & II, as well as their upcoming release: Avowed.
Not wanting to forgo releasing another lore episode weeks from now, I opted to do a shorter episode on a specific creature that I think we are likely to see in Avowed, regardless of both location and time (in history) in the fantasy setting of Eora.
I thank you all for your patience with me as I adjust to being a new dad, and it is a nearly major victory that even these little episodes could be put out at all. Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement :)
