Fri, 01 Nov 2024 - 43min - 73 - WP E73 Themba Gamedze - #WisdomPersonified - conversations with Dudu Msomi
hemba Gamedze epitomises what Wisdom Personified Conversations with Dudu Msomi is about. #Wisdom is not a result of aging nor is it about a high IQ. It is about how individuals use good judgement in everyday life (both in their personal and professional lives). It is the interplay of the use of one’s intelligence, knowledge, #creativity, common sense, and experience, and how it impacts their intra- personal, interpersonal and community relationships. It is not about perfection, but rather how they relate and cope in a world of challenges, changes, complexities, and crises. Themba Gamedze has personified wisdom from the first meeting, having been introduced to him by Roy Andersen, who was the #CEO of #Liberty at that time. He holds a B.A Honours and a Master of Science from the University of Warwick. He has a fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (#FASA), and the first African to qualify as an #actuary in South Africa. He is the founding President of #ASABA which was established with the express aim of increasing the number of black qualified actuaries. Themba Gamedze serves as a non-executive director in various boards including as a specialist trustee of the Government Employees Pension Fund. “What’s that in your hand? What have you got around you that can sustain you? Solve the problems that you got around you?” A wisdom that he shares. That is so poignant and simple. I will never look at a challenging situation the same way after this conversation. For this and other gems. Watch, listen, and share this wise conversation. It is certainly worth your time. #DuduMsomi #ThembaGamedze #financialservices #BBBEE #charter #transformation #infrastructure #pensionfunds #investments

Sun, 01 Sep 2024 - 53min - 71 - WP E71 Tryphosa Ramano - #WisdomPersonified - conversations with Dudu Msomi
Paying tribute to women who not only pursue excellence in everything they do. But who also exude compassion, kindness and courage. Most of all, who share their wisdom with their fellow human beings and thrive to leave this world better off. Epitomised by Tryphosa Ramano, the guest in this August Month on Wisdom Personified Conversations with Dudu Msomi. When you meet Tryphosa and see the things she is involved in. You get the sense that is aptly conveyed by George Bernard Shaw when he said: “I want to be thoroughly used up when I die. For the harder I work. The more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no ‘brief candle’ to me. It is sort of a splendid torch which I have a hold of for the moment. And I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it over to future generations”. Tryphosa is a qualified and registered Chartered Accountant (#CA). She has made and continues to make significant contributions through her various roles in diverse sectors of the South African economy. She holds various non-executive director roles including on the South African Reserve Bank (#SARB), #Eskom and the International Women’s Forum of South Africa (the #IWFSA) boards. Thu, 01 Aug 2024 - 47min - 70 - WP E70 Lebo Biko - #WisdomPersonified - conversations with Dudu Msomi
There is a quote from John Burroughs that says, “You must first clearly see a thing in your mind before you can do it”. Mon, 01 Jul 2024 - 46min - 69 - E069 - Natasia & Skye Mc Mahon - #WisdomPersonified - conversations with Dudu Msomi
This is one of my most heart-warming and yet candid conversations yet. Natasia becomes teary when her daughter Syke shares what she admires about her as a mother. Inspired by a quote by Jane Flax, a psychoanalyst, Skye says, “Mothers and daughters existing as wretched mirrors of each other. I am all you could have been, and you are all I might be”. In this inter-generational conversation, I am speaking to Natasia and Skye Mc Mahon. I have chosen to explore the Coloured identity in this relationship including the unique bond between the mothers and daughters. The theme of the impact of divorce, not on just the children, but on the extended family members is briefly lurks in the background. Skye attended Roedean School for Girls from the time she was 5 years old. All the way to Matric. Her parents ensured she was exposed to sports, culture, music and academics. She played piano from the age of 5, completed the Royal Schools Exams and even joined a Jazz Band. Skye has a passion for social justice, reading and helping people. Making her choice to study law an easy one. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and is now studying LLB at Wits. Natasia is a seasoned, highly motivated and accomplished Executive Consultant at Cornelder Holding, which is a renowned one- stop shop that serves clients’ maritime and logistic needs based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. She holds an Honours Degree in Finance and a Postgraduate certificate in Public Private Partnership Finance. This conversation is a perfect episode for June month during which we celebrate Youth Month in South Africa because of the 16th of June, Soweto Uprising of the 1976. I hope Mothers and Daughters and Fathers and Sons watch this conversation together and use it to spark conversations and navigate inter-generational relationships that will build positive memories that will nourish you throughout your lifetime. This is a poignant conversation that will also teach you never to get comfortable with being angry and to never stop talking to your family and the people that you #love. Because tomorrow is never promised. To any of us. #DuduMsomi #Wisdom #WisdomPersonified #YouthMonth #June16 #SouthAfrica #mothersanddaughters #mchamon #Coloured #Colored #African #identity #mentalhealth
Sat, 01 Jun 2024 - 46min - 68 - E068 - Helen Nicholson - #WisdomPersonified - conversations with Dudu Msomi
#Networking is an #investment in your #business. It takes time and when done correctly can yield great results for years to come, says Diane Helbig This sentiment embodies the journey that Helen Nicholson has travelled and the lesson that has made her part of the zeitgeist of Corporate South #Africa. Helen is called the Networking Queen. She began her career as an accountant. She has evolved into the Founder and Chief Excitement Officer of The Networking Company which specialises in training professionals on ‘soft skills’ such as Personal Branding, Networking and #Mindfulness which are essential power skills to advance people’s careers. Wisdom is a byproduct of living. We can learn many wisdoms from individuals beyond what they become known for as their areas of expertise. Human beings are more complex and expansive than the boxes we keep people in. When we put people in boxes, we deprive ourselves of the rich perspectives they have on a myriad of other topics. Hope you find nuggets of reflection and growth in this episode of Wisdom Personified Conversations with Dudu Msomi. I certainly have. #wisdom #wisdompersonified #helennicholson #dudumsomi #leadershipdevelopment #EO #leadership #executives #womeninleadership
Wed, 01 May 2024 - 49min - 67 - E067 - Pepe Marais- #WisdomPersonified - conversations with Dudu Msomi
I love genuine, vulnerable, passionate, compassionate, insightful, intelligent and wise Humans. Those are truly powerful individuals. Pepe is all of these. And more. Pepe Marais is the Founding Partner and Group Chief Creative Officer of the #brand and #communications group Joe Public United, ranked as one of the top independent and fastest growing South African #advertising groups. He has been the recipient of numerous local and international industry awards. Pepe is the author of Growing Greatness and 20 Habits that break habits. He describes himself as a purpose-driven individual who is passionate about human potential and the growth and development of people, including his own. Alvin Toffler said, “The illiterate of the future are not those who can’t read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn”. It is truly fascinating to meet a human being who embraces remaking himself every time he knows better. He strives to do better. To use his own words from his book, ‘Growing Greatness: A Journey towards personal and business mastery’, Pepe says, “I may not be greater than Steve Jobs, but equally, I see myself as nothing less. I am Pepe Marais and my name resides comfortably within the word ‘peOpLe’. Because I care about myself as a person. And I care for others. Deeply. I exist for growth. I exist for those around me to be the best that they can possibly be”. I would venture to say that from this conversation, what will be true of its impact on your life is captured in this #wisdom: “Though you can easily count the seeds in an apple; it’s impossible to count the apples in a seed”. The ripple effect of the pearls of wisdom shared, will have an influence and effect, subconsciously, beyond what you could imagine. You will ponder over the wisdom shared for months. Unexpectedly. And you will find yourself more conscious of what you do and how you do it. Most importantly, how you make people around you. Feel. Annina Van Neel is the founder and CEO of The Tiekie Box Project which is a black cultural #heritage organisation working to decolonise Black history and #archaeology and to make this heritage accessible to the African #Diaspora and descendant communities. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental, and Geographical Science and Archaeology from the University of Cape Town. When Annina emigrated to the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena Island in 2012 to work as the environmental officer for an airport construction project, she encountered the neglected, but most significant physical trace of the Trans-Atlantic #Slave Trade, The African Burial Grounds. Her journey is featured in the #documentary, 'A Story of Bones.' Annina is now living in her country-of-origin #Namibia, to learn about her own colonial history and the #genocide of the #Nama and the #Herero under #German rule. George Orwell said, 'The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history. Annina is an individual ensuring that #Africans are not only remembered by history, but their dignity is preserved even in death. Knowing #history provides us a context for understanding the present. Most importantly, understanding the history of the marginalised in our world, helps us to develop our critical thinking, to cultivate our compassion and an opportunity for you to do better and be a better human being. I hope this wise conversation deepens your compassion for humanity. For the perpetrators and those they strive to dehumanise and destroy. Unsuccessfully. Most of all. I hope you are touched to be a better human being today, than you were yesterday. #dudumsomi #wisdom #wisdompersonified #anninavanneel #storyofbones #sthelenaisland #NamibianGenocide #UCT

Anne Pratt says one of the gifts of living through Stage 3 Gastric cancer is that you truly live each day as though it is the last. Not just words. One of the unforgettable wisdoms that she still lives by today that she learnt from her mother. Is that when we have passed on. And the difference we make whilst we are here on Planet Earth that will define the meaning of our lives and the impact of our legacy. Anne Pratt is originally from South Africa now based in the United States as a Harvard fellow. At the core, the idea of #purpose is the idea that what we do matters to people other than ourselves says Angela Duckworth. In the work that Sibusisiwe Myeni does as the co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Imbeleko #Foundation, she does exactly that which is a far cry from what she qualified to with a B. Com in statistical Science and Financial Accounting. Sibu is a #banker turned Social #Entrepreneur and Rural Child Education Activist. A 2010 Gauteng Businesswomen Association Business Woman of the Year, a2015 Vital Voices GAP Alum, a 2016 VV100 Fellow, a 2016 Eisenhower Fellow, an Aspen Institute 2017 Socrates Fellow, a 2018 Opportunity Collaboration Cordes Fellow and a #TEDx Speaker. I usually say that I get the sense that we are on this Earth for our Souls to experience and grow. Thegrowth comes from our relationships with each other. Understanding that we are connected even when we do not share blood lines. But I also say, if it does not come naturally for you to help other people in this life, at least do not hurt them. I have a feeling Sibu has found a winning combination of helping and healing hurts that life can inflict in her rural and impoverished community. Hope you are inspired to do more than you think you can, to seek out and to help fellow humans to live a life of #love and dignity. Until next time, when I have another conversation with a wise and inspirational individual. #DuduMsomi #Wisdom #SibusisiweMyeni #Leadership #Wisdom #socialentreprenuership #education #STEM #payitforward

Walt #Disney said: “You must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your #soul”. For this episode of Wisdom Personified Conversations with #DuduMsomi, I am having a conversation with Mike Teke whose life journey is captured in this quote. Mike Teke is the Chief Executive Officer of #SeritiResources, a diversified energy company in SouthAfrica. He is a former schoolteacher and human resources executive who is now the chairperson and controlling shareholder in a multibillion-rand #coal #mining and energy company. Mike believes that the future is going to be about #energy, food security, water and the fastest person to make life better for humanity. Mike’s life is about the #wisdom of believing that all your dreams and even more, can come true, if you have the courage to pursue them. This conversation is also about debunking the #stereotype that you cannot be successful in #Africa without #corruption. Mike Teke is striving to prove this is a myth. Sat, 01 Jul 2023 - 25min - 57 - E057 Sangeeta Leach - #WisdomPersonified - conversations with Dudu Msomi
There is a quote that says, “Show me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you are.” Sangeeta Leach is someone I proudly claim as a friend. From the instance you meet Sangs, her intelligence is palpable. Even at a young age, she was also undoubtedly wise as evident in her good judgement, behaviour, problem solving abilities and understanding of the human condition. Sangeeta Leach is the co-owner of The Leach Partnership based in #Sydney, Australia which she runs with her husband William Leach. I first met Sangs, as I call her, in 1996 when she moved to South Africa from #India via #Nairobi, #Kenya where she worked and lived for a couple of years. We were colleagues at #Saatchi & Saatchi #Advertising and soon became firm friends. Not even the distance of her moving to Sydney, #Australia could break the bond. One of Sangeeta’s core principles is that one should interact with people as people to be met rather than people to be solved. I love her #wisdom when she says, “A principle is not a #principle until you put it to the test”. Priceless! You know the times when you engage in something. And after it is done, you are so dissatisfied with how you have spent your time that you decry that you want your time back? This is not one of those conversations. There are themes that come out of this conversation that can be fleshed out into a #Masterclass. Do yourself a service. Make time for this episode of Wisdom Personified Conversations with Dudu Msomi! #entrepreneurs #creativity #creativecompanies #strategy #value worklifeintegration #diversityandinclusion

There is something so comforting about growing in this world alongside people you knew when you were younger. Seeing them charter a successful journey in their chosen careers. I first came to know Nthati Moshesh when she was studying at Natal Technikon, now called Durban University of Technology, where she was one of the first graduates in Performing Arts. Her sterling career has seen her in productions such as Isono, Human Cargo, Home Affairs and Saint and Sinners amongst numerous others. She has received the respect for her craft through prestigious nominations and awards over her career. Mon, 01 May 2023 - 42min - 55 - E055 Lerato Molebatsi - #Wisdom Personified- Conversations with Dudu Msomi
Jim Rohn says, “The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly.” There are very few individuals that I have observed that carry these contradictions with Grace and Wisdom. Lerato Molebatsi is a person that epitomises that power doesn’t have to be loud and showy. Her character, her mind and heart are what keep you in her life in the long-term. Lerato is a former Managing Director of General Electric (#GE) South Africa. She has over 25 years of experience in diverse sectors such as Financial Services, Mining, Government, Non-profit and Professional Services. She has several non-executive #board roles including on the South African Reserve Bank (#SARB), as a Lead Independent Director and Chair of NEDCOM and a non- executive on Adrian Group #Kenya, an engineering company providing #technology and infrastructure solutions. This conversation is timely for April which is Freedom Month in #SouthAfrica because we commemorate our liberation on the 27 th of April. Lerato believes that you got to stand for something. To live by your convictions. She says, “Every single one of us. Can make a difference. Sat, 01 Apr 2023 - 43min - 54 - E54 Dr Renate Volpe - #WisdomPersonified - conversations with Dudu Msomi
“So often people assume that everyone has good parents”, was the answer to the response of my very first question. I knew that this conversation will be the epitome of what I hoped for when I conceived “Wisdom Personified Conversations with Dudu Msomi”. I foresaw individuals opening up. Being vulnerable and courageous. Revealing to us their journey to #Wisdom. Which is not always a straight-line. So that their fellow human beings can be inspired. Learn from. And do better than they may have. As Maya Angelou said, “When you know better, you do better.” This video #podcast series is about appreciating how individuals use good judgement in everyday life (both in their personal and professional lives). It is the interplay of the use of one’s intelligence, knowledge, creativity, common sense, and experience, and how it impacts their intra-personal, interpersonal and community relationships. It is not about perfection, but rather how they relate and cope in a world of challenges, changes, complexities, and crises. Dr Renate Volpe is an expert in the field of strategic #leadership and people development. She is the founder of Dr R Volpe Leadership Consulting which has a vision to be a catalyst to the development of a more competent, positive and healthier South African society. Renate has sound experience in the world of business and academia. A renowned public speaker and author of publications such as The Entrepreneurial Mindshift and the Lessons from the School of Hard Knocks. Dr Renate’s story is raw. Unpretentious. Courageous. Wed, 01 Mar 2023 - 39min - 53 - E53 Santie Botha - Wisdom Personified, conversations with Dudu Msomi
In this episode of #WisdomPersonified, Conversations with #DuduMsomi, I am speaking to Santie Botha, one of South Africa’s most respected and accomplished businesspersons. She believes that to do big things, you need to do the hard thinking first. With the presence of formidable universities, with bright sparks in our country, in a world that is digital, Santie questions where our investments in research and in quality people are? And where is South Africa’s #SiliconValley? Observing the seeming lack of a big vision for the country. She reasons that we need a unified vision, not just pockets. This sense of reinvention is echoed in Santie’s own life. “You only have one life. You have to pack it in,” she says. Santie Botha has achieved numerous firsts and been the youngest in many of her career milestones since graduating from the University of Stellenbosch with a Bachelor and Honours in Economics. Including being appointed to the #ABSA Board at 34 years making her the youngest member of the Group #Board. Was the youngest Chancellor in South Africa at 48 years, when she was appointed at Nelson #Mandela Metropolitan University. Her roles at present include being Chair of #Capitec Bank and Famous Brands. Hope you enjoy this candid and insightful conversation. A rare privilege. #SantiBotha #ABSA #Wisdom #Leadership #WomenInLeadership #BusinessLeadership ##NelsonMandelaUniversity
Wed, 01 Feb 2023 - 49min - 52 - E52 Farayi Mangwende - WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi
“Have to choose your hard.” A statement made by Farayi Mangwende during our conversation when I asked her why she has not emigrated from Zimbabwe like millions of professionals have done to make a better life for themselves in other countries because of the prolonged political and economic crisis in their country. Farayi’s detested cross country running when she was at school. Her father shared wisdom, “How can you be beaten by something that doesn’t talk.” That got me thinking about how I want to Live in 2023. Farayi Mangwende is Group Marketing & Strategy Executive in First Mutual Holdings Ltd in #Zimbabwe. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Communication and Public Relations from the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom. I first met Farayi in 2010 in the US when we were nominated as thirty-five emerging #women #leaders from various parts of the world to participate in the Fortune / US State Department Global Women Mentoring Programme where we were matched with women #CEOs and Executive #Leaders of #Fortune500 companies to be our #mentors over a four-week period. “What is your hard in this life? How are you approaching it in 2023?” Wishing you a resourceful, rewarding and a Significant 2023 in all the ways that matter to you. #resilience #mentalhealth #power #faith #vision
Tue, 03 Jan 2023 - 33min - 51 - E51 Nonhlanhla Mjoli-Mncube - WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi
I so love no nonsense, simple advice. In this conversation with Sis Nonhlanhla Mjoli-Mncube, she shares salt of the earth wisdom. May I dare say, in this conversation, it is as though Sis Nonhlanhla is paying tribute to her parents and gives us a glimpse of the legacy that they have enriched the family with. Sis Nonhlanhla is motivated by what her father used to say. That for any constraint, there is a solution. She has lived what Eric Hoffer says that the only way to predict the future is to have power to shape the future. Sis Nhlanhla is the CEO of Eziko Investments with interests ranging from housing, construction, property, and finance. She holds an B.A. from University of Fort Hare, an M. Sc in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Cape Town and a certificate in Engineering and Technology Management from Warwick University, amongst other qualifications. She sits on various boards such as #ABSA and Emira Property Fund. She pursues a higher purpose as a developmentalist and activist. “Inside ourselves we have the power to make a difference, so we must believe in ourselves. Don’t let your purpose be small,” says Sis Nonhlanhla Mjoli-Mncube. This is a timely episode of Wisdom Personified Conversations with Dudu Msomi to end 2022! To facilitate our reflections about the year that is ending and to inspire us to look forward to new beginnings in #2023. With its gifts, possibilities, and wonders. Wishing you a love-filled, enjoyable, and safe holiday season! #wisdom #womeninleadership #leadership #business #boards #NonhlanhjaMjoli-Mncube #DuduMsomi #EzikoInvestments #WisdomPersonified

My guest for this new episode of Wisdom Personified Conversations with Dudu Msomi is Molefe Mputamputa, the Chief Operating Officer of Royale Energy. Dr Seuss says, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose". I think this quote captures the spirit that seems to have driven the life of Molefe Mputamputa. Molefe has a B. Sc. Engineering (Chemical Engineering); a B. Comm degree and an MBA. He is passionate about developing emerging business leaders to reach their potential. Molefe is a renown #jazz aficionado who posts enthusiastically about his person on IG (Instagram). Do follow him. Tue, 01 Nov 2022 - 38min - 49 - Episode 49 Mark & Dr LaTasha Blanton #WisdomPersonified
I hope this conversation with The Blantons, Mark and Dr LaTasha, has a butterfly effect: a light fluttering of butterfly wings that may cause unpredictable, but positive inspirations and actions in those that watch and hear which can lead to a large-scale movement of Africans and people of African descent in the Diaspora appreciating their common ancestry and actively seeking to bridge the bonds of time and space. To be the powerful people that they are. There is an excerpt of a poem from the book Wealth for all Africans: How Every African Can Live the Life of Their Dreams that says: “Most people write me off when they see me. They do not know my story. They say I am just an African. They judge me before they get to know me. Mark and LaTasha Blanton are part of a new generation of Africans and Africans from the diaspora who are changing the narrative of how they are seen and the choices that they make in their lives. Writing their own narrative. Mark and LaTasha’s mission is to expose and showcase South Africa as a luxury travel destination, but also a potential home to African Americans which warms my heart to no end. They are the founders of The Real South Africa Tour Company. Our conversation covered topics ranging from understanding what a ‘Karen’ is and whether they have met ‘her’ in South Africa, about serving in the US military as anAfrican- American and their view of entrepreneurship in South Africa, amongst others. I hope you find our conversation reflective. The future for Africans and Africans from the diaspora is what they make it and I wish for this conversation to contribute to the writing of a more prosperous and united future for the pride and benefit of the upcoming generations. #DuduMsomi. #MarkBlanton #DrLaTashaBlanton #Leadership #WomenInBusiness #BusinessLeadership #Wisdom #TravelSouthAfrica #TheRealSouthAfricaTourCompany #africanamericantraveler #africanamericantravelers
Sat, 01 Oct 2022 - 39min - 48 - E048 Zodwa Matsau #WisdomPersonified
“Don’t underestimate me because I’m quiet. I know more than I say, think more than I speak and observe more than you know.” – Michaela Chung I think this quote captures what I see as the essence of Sis Zodwa. Her ‘not too loud’ nature may have you overlook her for the charismatic and vocal in our society. But not me. She has qualities that embody wisdom, one of which is intellectual humility which is endearing. The best advice she says, came from her father who said: “In life you have to remember that to whom much is given, much is expected. You can never be a shining star on your own. You do need other stars around you. It is better for aesthetics and for everybody. It would provide light when you got other stars surrounding you. A galaxy is better than a single star.” What a gem! Sis Zodwa Matsau is an Independent Non-Executive Director at PSG Konsult Ltd and Bidvest Bank. She was previously employed as a Head for Money & Economics by Central Bank of Lesotho and Company Secretary. She has retired after her role as a Senior Deputy General Manager-Financial Markets by South African Reserve Bank. She received her undergraduate degree from The National University of Lesotho and a graduate degree from the University of Glasgow. Sis Zodwa is our hidden gem from South Africa. A person of few words. But has pearls of wisdom to share that are simple and practical. I hope this conversation has inspired you. #DuduMsomi. #Zodwa Matsau #Leadership #WomenInBusiness #BusinessLeadership #Wisdom #PSGKonsultLtd

Thu, 07 Jul 2022 - 35min - 45 - E045 - Buyani Zwane #WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi
Buyani Zwane is the Founder and Cheerful Engagement Orchestrator of #BreakthroughDevelopment, a management #consulting firm providing managerial and #leadership development services. It is an honour to share Buyani, a fellow child of the Black Management Forum (#BMF) on this June, his birthday month with you. Having known him for about 24 years, this conversation exposes a rare side of Buyani. Vulnerable and emotionally raw because of childhood trauma. An apt conversation to have during Youth Month (June) in South Africa as we commemorate and reflect on the sacrifices of the young people on the 16th of June 1976 in the liberation struggle journey of #SouthAfrica, As a leadership expert, Buyani understands that an amygdala hijack is painful to behold. The #WillSmith slapping #ChrisRock incident and the screaming from his seat, was an excruciating, reflective moment that there are no shortcuts to becoming an emotionally, mentally healthy and a self-actualised human being. Working in the leadership space, he shares #wisdom that can assist leaders to introspect and to be aware of how their past is holding the present hostage and sometimes resulting in unhealthy cultures in the workplaces they lead. Or even in the political arena. Amongst other nuggets of wisdom. Most of all, it is a beautiful conversation of a Man finding his way in the world of #fatherhood where he did not have the privilege to experience the same having lost his father, tragically and unexpectedly, when he was very young, Be inspired and touched by this episode of Wisdom Personified Conversations with Dudu Msomi. #mentalhealth #personalleadership #vision #coaching #menoring #BuyaniZwani #DuduMsomi

You can undermine Prof Chiba at your own peril, but you certainly cannot deny the positive impact he has in our society. True wisdom is displayed through our actions. This is evident in the way Manoj has lived his life thus far. He is what can be described as whip smart. But what makes him wise is how he uses his intelligence and skills for the betterment of society as well. Manoj is driven to add value in every space he occupies – at home, at work and in society at large. He has a knack of explaining the complex in remarkably simple ways that lessen anxieties about technology and the role human beings can continue to play without thinking they are obsolete. Already. She has interviewed figures like #NelsonMandela, #GeorgeClooney, and #TomHanks amongst others during her illustrious and extraordinary career. As a young actress in the 90s, the press in South Africa were describing Nadia as a “sultry, almond-eyed beauty. A sex symbol.” Over the decades, Nadia has broken stereotypes and created a body of work spanning radio, film, television, stages, and now online platforms, and social media as well. Thu, 07 Apr 2022 - 38min - 42 - E041 Ambassador Nozipho January-Bardill #WisdomPersonified
Ambassador Nozipho January-Bardill is the Chair of the Council of the Nelson Mandela University & UN Global Compact Local Network Board. She believes that the beginning of wisdom is living consciously, meaning being aware of where you are, what you are and who you are in any point in time. Sis’ Noz, as we fondly call her is serenity, calm personified. Hear her speak about the injustices of society that make her angry without raising her voice or any visible change in her demeanour. This is something to behold. Apartheid, she says, either made you into a better human being or broke you so that you have so little self-esteem that you gave up. It certainly made her to be a person of integrity and sharpened her technical competence which makes her an in demand non-executive board member. Ambassador January-Bardill takes pleasure in sharing platforms with other women. Instead of just authoring her own story, she invited women from twenty- five different African countries to narrate their journeys and published them in the book Write to Speak which was released in 2021. Worthwhile to get this book for International Women’s Day, 8 th of March. Be inspired by stories of resilience, commitment and women doing things to make the world a better place, at a cost to themselves. Hope you gain wisdom from this conversation with Ambassador Nozipho January-Bardill and are inspired by a calm and comforting energy. #MentoringWomen #NoziphoJanuary-Bardill #DuduMsomi #Leadership #Empathy #WriteToSpeak #Women'sDay #CouncilOfTheNelsonMandelaUniversity #UNGlobalCompactLocalNetwork
Thu, 03 Mar 2022 - 36min - 41 - E042 - Women's Day - Break the Bias! #WisdomPersonified
Though laws are in place for the advancement of #women. The women carry a disproportionate burden of physical work and emotional labour in the workplace and in the home. It may require South Africa to adopt the Nordic Region practices where there is shared participation in childcare, a more equitable distribution of work at home and a better work-life balance for both women and men. Women encounter difficulties in combining family and work responsibilities in a society still structured on patriarchal norms and practices. Women have feelings of obligation and commitment to others, at most times to their own detriment. Women must realise that no one is going to give them that world. They need to create it. Patriarchy is not only demonstrated in extreme actions like female genital mutilations, honour killings and Gender Based Violence (#GBV), it is a social construction that is mental, legal, economic, political and spiritual that achieves the most enduring system of domination. Gender roles and stereotypes are seen as natural and universal. If we do not tackle #patriarchy, it is almost impossible to #BreaktheBias. James Baldwin, the American writer and social critic had the right sentiment when he said: “Freedom is not something that anybody can be given. #Freedom is something people take, and people are as free as they want to be.” As women, do we truly want things to change? What are we willing to do or sacrifice to experience the change we want? Break the Bias! #MentoringWomen #DuduMsomi #Leadership #Empathy #Women'sDay #Leadership #WomenInLeadership #genderequality #empoweringwomen #womensrights #equality #happywomensday #womeninbusiness #womeninspiringwomen
Thu, 03 Mar 2022 - 23min - 40 - E040 Birthday Month #WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi
February is my favourite month of the year. One, because it is my birthday month. Celebrations literally start well before my born date of the 24th. And last sometimes until September 🤣🤣my second favourite month. Plenty of time to be spoilt and to drink in the fact that I am still ALIVE! Secondly, because it is the Love month. Valentine may only be on the 14th. But the entire month does seem to inspire loving feelings that last for the whole month. Yep. That’s the romantic in me.😂❤️😊 Hope you will find resonance in this message that I felt inspired to share with you this special month for me. South Africa is a country that loves acronyms. An acronym is an abbreviation of the first letters of each word in the name of something; pronounced as a word. Today I would like to share wisdom about L-O-V-E. Now turned into an acronym, of course. So, what does the acronym L-O-V-E mean to me in my life. L is for LIVE O is for Own V is for Vision E is for Ecstatically Enjoy this L.O.V.E. wisdom from me to you. #leadership #WisdomPersonified #leadership #personalleadership#DuduMsomi #Strategy #Mentorship #Marketing #Diversity #LOVE #Wisdom
Thu, 27 Jan 2022 - 14min - 39 - E039 Brigitte Dzogbenuku #WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi
There is a quote by Avijeet Das, “There are moments in our lives when we meet someone, and we feel as if we have known them all our lives.” That is how I felt the first time I met Brigitte Dzogbenuku. Brig, as we commonly call her, is the Founder and Executive Director of Mentoring Women Ghana amongst other roles she has. A former Miss Ghana, a mother of one precious son and Ghanaian #Presidential candidate of the Progressive Peoples’ Party in 2020. You can undermine her at your own peril, but ignoring her, impossible. Brig says her Achilles Heel is that she is very impatient. She expects results quickly. However, when I watch her foray into politics and the long journey, she knows is at hand for patriarchal societies to see the value #women can bring into leadership positions, I differ with her self-image. The issues she tackles set a foundation for an equal and equitable world such as mentoring programmes for women and now also working on the ambition to set up an Institute to formalise, dignify and train domestic workers in Ghana. Even though she has strong views on issues, she is refreshingly an empathetic listener who is generous in recognising women who have mentored and inspired her life journey such as Ms Wendy Luhabe from South Africa. She quotes Shirley Chisholm, who was an American politician who became the first black woman elected to the United States Congress 1969 to 1983 who said, “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair”. Oh, and Brigitte does do that. Hope you enjoy this #African Powerhouse from the Gold Coast, #Ghana, and you are inspired by our conversation. #MentoringWomen #BrigitteDzogbenuku #DuduMsomi #ProgressivePeoplesParty #Leadership #Empathy
Thu, 06 Jan 2022 - 30min - 38 - Episode 38 Rehema Isa #WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi
"Labels are filing. Labels are for clothing. Labels are not for people." Said Martina Navratilova. Rehema Isa defies labelling. The closest label she fits is that she is an #African and an enthusiastic advocate for #women and intra-Africa #trade. Talking about identity, she reminded me of the derogatory, painful, and Soul-destroying term and song “Makwerekwere” that was used to describe African foreigners even in Botswana where she grew up. Rehema is the Co-Founder of Womanomics Africa, who exist to connect women to opportunities and ecosystems, creating a Pan -African economic highway. This is a fitting conversation to close off another difficult year in the grips of the #Covid pandemic. We have an opportunity to reflect on our progress as South Africa and the Continent, cancelling out the impact of this coronavirus about how our values, attitudes and behaviours have created the challenges that we are living through. With the hope that we can be and do better. From our conversation, you see the diversity and breadth of Rehema’s wisdom. Her passion is palpable when she bemoans the opportunities of socio-economic development that we have squandered. “We have been amiss as #Africans in not supporting our own. We have unfortunately put into positions of power maintenance crews of a status quo. Those who are so comfortable with things the way they are. They are not appreciating the fact that they have taken on a custodianship of power. And that power have great responsibility to do what is necessary to create the new reality”. If this conversation doesn’t inspire you to be and do better – as a human being, a parent, a sibling, an entrepreneur, a professional and, and...That would be unfortunate. Thu, 02 Dec 2021 - 39min - 37 - Episode 37 Dudu Msomi #WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi
Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to work for myself, either on my own or by creating a business with like- minded individuals that will attract more people that want to do great things and push the boundaries. Entrepreneurs are said to have certain qualities that hold them in good stead to succeed and some have become clichés such as having a vision, persistence, being innovative, creative, hard- working and so forth. But despite having those qualities, there will be many tough times, whether you are running a start-up or an established company, where as a business owner and leader you begin to doubt yourself, your capabilities and the need for your services and products regardless of the market research you have done. The people you had hoped and thought would be your biggest supporters and 'marketers' will not necessarily be. You will come to truly appreciate the kindness of strangers. There is an observation that is widely shared in the world that during hard times, you will know for sure who your friends are. For this episode, I would like to share just three Wisdoms I have learnt about being an entrepreneur. The lessons I will share here are more relevant for the start-up business. Though I must say, after 12 years in business and encountering business along the way who have been around longer than mine, getting back to the basics may not be a bad idea. I hope you will find some useful nuggets to reflect upon or incorporate into your journey as an entrepreneur or to understand those who are entrepreneurs better. Thu, 04 Nov 2021 - 13min - 36 - Episode 36 Ashraf Garda #WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi
here is something so distinct and remarkable about a man who sights as one of his most courageous decisions in life, cold calling his now wife to introduce himself and express his interest in her after he saw her at a function many moons ago. I knew this was going to be another fascinating conversation. Ashraf Garda is the founder of Champion South Africa. He sees his purpose as to Champion people. His goal is to build a champion nation. How we achieve that, he says it is up to everyone. Ashraf is ardent about us fighting against ‘othering’ each other. The danger of doing so to the fragile fabric of our democracy is consequential to a man who has spent most of his career as a practising Muslim in ‘non-Muslim’ spaces. South Africa is 3% Muslim. For an individual who is enthusiastic about his country and says, in the main, he finds South Africans very tolerant of religious difference. I was sad to hear his story of how he left his illustrious career at SAFM which is SABC’s English language public radio station. You would expect a public broadcaster to champion our constitutional values of human dignity, equality and non-racialism and be the bastion of diversity and tolerance. Watch this conversation to hear how SAFM played hardball by being unyielding in finding an equitable solution knowing that Ashraf is a practising Muslim and attending mosque on Fridays 12:45 is sacrosanct. There is dignity in a person who does not sacrifice his beliefs and integrity for money and prominence at any cost. Embark on this wisdom journey with Ashraf Garda and be inspired by his passion for South Africa. The Champion Nation in the making. #ChampionSouthAfrica #AshrafGarda #leadership #WisdomPersonified #leadership #personalleadership #GIBS #DuduMsomi #Strategy #Mentorship #Marketing #SAfm #Broadcasting
Thu, 07 Oct 2021 - 36min - 35 - Episode 35 - Nonhlanhla Koza #WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi
With Nonhlanhla Koza, your first impressions will most likely be wrong. Thirty years of knowing her, she still manages to surprise me. Over the past few years, I have seen her evolution as she acquires wisdom from the good, the bad and the ugly of life which inspired this conversation. Einstein said: “Wisdom is not a product of schooling, but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.” This certainly holds true for Nonhlanhla. She is a Managing Member of Phuphani Holdings, a professional services company with a diversified investment portfolio in ICT, Healthcare, Multi-Purpose Property development, Strategic Branding and Marketing. This is a perfect conversation to welcome Spring! A season of rebirth and renewal. "Renewal requires opening yourself up to new ways of thinking and feeling," says Deborah Day Stay safe and sane🤗 #NonhlanhlaKoza #WisdomPersonified #leadership #personalleadership #GIBS #businessschools #DuduMsomi #Strategy #PhuphaniHoldings #Mentorship #Marketing
Thu, 02 Sep 2021 - 30min - 34 - Episode 34 Hema Vallabh #WisdomPersonified conversations with Dudu Msomi
Hema Vallabh is the co-Founder and CEO of the social enterprise, WomHub, which is a boutique incubator, accelerator and co-working hub for female founders in STEM (Stem, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing). From an insecure teenager sitting at the back of the classroom in a no frills and no fusses government school in Lenasia, Hema's exposure to a world outside of the bubble of her Indian community has unleashed a powerhouse who has a passion to build organisations that create a lasting impact. Her mum is her biggest inspiration and her father, her biggest fan. Hema has a BSc Engineering (Chemical)(Hons) and MSc Engineering (Catalysis) from UCT and MBA from Saïd Business School, Oxford University. Though she says she was not brought up to dream, have drive and want to be successful, the pain, anger and frustration of seeing gender discrimination, particularly in engineering, but also across STEM fields has driven her to use her ambitious energy to combat it. Hema also shared her personal pain and resultant growth and wisdom following her divorce. What can make a woman attractive is also what can be the source of discontent in the life partners we choose. An issue worth reflecting on as women and men in a society that is supposed to be built on a foundation of equity, equality, non-sexism and human dignity. Be inspired by this Women’s Month conversation with Hema Vallabh. #WomensMonth #HemaVallabh #WomHub #WisdomPersonified #leadership #personalleadership #GIBS #businessschools #DuduMsomi #TheStrategist

There is a quote by Manly P. Hal: “It is said that wisdom lies not in seeing things, but seeing through things.” This quote is so apt for this new episode of Wisdom Personified, Conversations with Dudu Msomi. Angelo Fick is the Director of Research at Auwal Socio-Economic Research Institute (ASRI). He believes that critical literate education would be useful to produce the kind of people who don’t have to rely on other people to point out to them that something doesn’t cohere logically. Angelo will get you reflecting deeply with every wisdom he shares. He has a way of bringing nobility to being an ‘ordinary’ human – with no title, position or fame. “It is better to have been an anonymous teacher in a primary school who taught thousands of kids to read than to have been Adolf Hitler who influenced millions of people, but not necessarily for the good”. Angelo Fick is an African mind that rivals and up ends the great thinkers. There is so much more that the world is still to gain from this intelligent and wise individual who is inspired by children in lessons of humility and understanding why it is important to remain curious. Enjoy this Conversation. It is so worth the time that you will never get back. #WisdomPersonified #leadership #personalleadership #GIBS #businessschools #AngeloFick #DuduMsomi #TheStrategist #ASRI #Racism
Thu, 01 Jul 2021 - 36min - 32 - E032 Mrs Scholastica Kimaryo #WisdomPersonified conversations with Dudu Msomi
Mrs Scholastica Sylvan Kimaryo is the Founder and CEO of Maadili Leadership Development and Lifestyle Coaching and Kilimanjaro Conscious Leadership Academy in Tanzania. She believes that humans are eternal spirit beings having a temporary human experience. However, the fact that our experiences are temporary because it is fact that none of us are coming out of this life alive, we owe it to our lives not to play it safe. Auntie Schola, as I call her, was a strategist from a young age when she crafted an ingenious plan and enlisted the support of her village Parish priest at the age of 9 to convince her father to allow her to go beyond Grade 4 which was when girl children were deemed ready to get a spouse, have lobola paid for them and to start bearing grandchildren. The life of Auntie Schola reflects the wisdom of a woman that reads her environment, understands the shackles of patriarchy, and has the courage to push the envelope and give herself permission to pursue her dreams which took her from a peasant farming village in Tanzania to the echelons of the United Nations from where she retired after 30 years. This conversation inspires us through the wisdom that anything of importance and that is worthwhile happens when we give ourselves permission to do it. With every choice and decision, there are consequences. We need to have the bravery to live with the consequences of our choices, positive or negative. Enjoy this courageous Wisdom Personified conversation with Auntie Schola. What wealth of wisdom we have on our continent, Africa! #WisdomPersonified #leadership #personalleadership #GIBS #MaadiliLeadershipDevelopmentAnd LifestyleCoaching #BusinessLeadership #businessschools #ScholasticaKimaryo #DuduMsomi #TheStrategist #KilimanjaroConsciousLeadershipAcademy #consciousness
Thu, 03 Jun 2021 - 33min - 31 - Episode 31 Nomso Kana - #WisdomPersonified Conversations with Dudu Msomi
Nomso Kana is a Nuclear scientist by trade and an entrepreneur in the broadband infrastructure sector. She founded Sun n Shield 84 Tech, a broadband infrastructure solutions company that is designing connectivity networks and distributing passive fibre optic products. Nomso is not your stereotypical scientist – of an eccentric, isolated workaholic who is socially ill at ease. That image has not held true for many scientists that I know. She is a combination of intelligence and wisdom at a young age. You can undermine her at your peril. During this conversation, I learnt that South Africa is number 3 in the world in the production of radioisotopes that are used for chemotherapy in cancer treatments. Did you know that? Diagnosed with cancer at 22 years of age, our world is privileged that she triumphed, is thriving, and contributing to our development as a country and the continent, as a Commissioner in the Presidential 4IR Commission, amongst many other roles, having been the sole survivor out of a group of 9 individuals that went through the treatment journey with her that lost their fight. Nomso Kana is someone to keep track of in this life. I look forward to the positive contributions she is still to make in our country and the inspiration she is for both males and females to get into niche knowledge disciplines in STEM careers that are so necessary for Africa to take its place amongst global nations this 21st century. Thu, 06 May 2021 - 30min - 30 - Episode 30 Abdullah Verachia - #WisdomPersonified Conversations with Dudu Msomi
"The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high, and we miss it, but that it is too low, and we reach it." – Michelangelo Abdullah Verachia, #CEO of The Strategists says, “I didn’t know that a life like this exists” to my question on what vision he had for his life. Abdullah is a poster man of a life created through a decision taken by default leading to unpredictable and magical paths. Trying to get out of something as a young scholar, led him into this amazing life together with several critical crossroads along his journey which could have resulted in a different Abdullah for sure. He is passionate about #strategy and #innovation and building a #learning mindset. Peter Block says, “It is hard to learn when we think we know something”. I think for those who think they know Abdullah; this conversation may reveal that there is still much more to know. Hope his sense of curiosity and his belief in learning every day, will inspire you to think of your “Why” for doing what you do. And reassure you on your path. Or embolden you to change course so you can live your best life, yet. It is our Freedom Month. May you live all the possibilities and opportunities that freedom affords us. #WisdomPersonified #leadership #personalleadership #GIBS #businessschools #AbdullahVerachia #DuduMsomi #TheStrategist
Thu, 01 Apr 2021 - 33min - 29 - Episode 29 Makhosi Mthiyane - #WisdomPersonified Conversations with Dudu Msomi
"For everything you have missed, you have gained something else. And for everything you gain, you lose something else." - Ralph Waldo Emerson This quote encapsulates the ‘no regret’ attitude of Makhosi Mthiyane, CEO of Ingqapheli Security, (https://www.ingqapheli.co.za/) who are specialists in security solutions. There are genuinely few human beings in this world that I am in awe of. A two- time high school dropout with passion and determination for learning and personal improvement who matriculated in her 20s. Sis’ Makhosi is a role model for girls and women anywhere in the world. In her community, she was seen as having achieved with Grade 8 (Standard 6) and reached her ceiling at the age of 18 years because she was engaged, expecting a child, ready for motherhood and to be a dutiful wife. The courage to create the life she wanted and deserved for herself and her children by creating her niche in the business world, is one of the most inspirational conversations I have had yet. 8th of March is International Women’s Day. The 2021 theme is “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world”. There is not a more apt representative of the concrete ceiling that African women face with the intersectionality of race, gender, and culture creating constraints to their opportunities for development and advancement in the workplace and into positions of leadership. Watch. Be inspired. Be wiser for knowing better so that as society, we can do better. #MakhosiMthiyane #IngqapheliSecurity #DuduMsomi #Wisdom #Leadership #WisdomPersonified #Security #ConversationsWithDuduMsomi
Thu, 04 Mar 2021 - 33min - 28 - Episode 28 Warwick Gill - #WisdomPersonified Conversations with Dudu Msomi
Living consciously and with gusto are the greatest wisdoms I have learnt from Warwick Gill, CEO of Freethinking whom I have known since 2005 as our highly intelligent, raucous, and hilarious MBA classmate at Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). Warrick is individual who in his youth was not guaranteed a long life because of fragile health challenges. Like all of us are not guaranteed. Sometimes we forget that. Warwick shares insights on disability that every leader and every individual would benefit from. It is not always possible to walk in someone else’s shoes so that we have empathy for the diversity of human experiences. This conversation will come remarkably close to curing many of us from being tone deaf about disability and help us to deeply appreciate that having different abilities does not make some of us inferior and some of us superior. The opportunity is for all of us to live our best lives with the abilities that we have and to create an environment in our world where all abilities can strive and thrive. February is a Love month. Show love. Be Love to everyone you meet – face to face or virtually. #Freethinking #WarwickGill #GIBS #DuduMsomi #Wisdom #Leadership #WisdomPersonified #ConversationsWithDuduMsomi

'Wisdom is like fire. There is a saying that do not judge a book by its cover. You will fail miserably if you try with Tashmia, and you will also encounter an individuals who truly defies being boxed in. Thu, 07 Jan 2021 - 32min - 26 - Episode 26 Nicola Tyler - Wisdom Personified Conversations with Dudu Msomi
This Wisdom Personified Conversations with Dudu Msomi is with Nicola Tyler, Director of Business Results Group (BRG) who has dined with Presidents and danced with Paupers. Her self-effacing and self-deprecating mannerisms and humour belies the wealth of wisdom you gain from a conversation with her. I think these words from her capture her life wisdom. “We need Ego when we enter the race. We need Humility when we win. Nobody likes an arrogant winner.” Nicola Tyler believes that if you are above ground. Be grateful. She says, “The trick is to have enough Energy to have the Time of your Life”. Nicola has triumphed over cancer. She has used every challenge she has encountered since childhood when she failed school twice which was also an excellent learning experience for building a business to evolve herself into a better and more compassionate human being, I sense. She was also fortunate to eventually have a teacher who saw “Her” and helped her blossom academically. A wisdom lesson on how just one person believing in You can turn around your destiny. Or you being that One person for someone in this life. Nicola has found her stride and created an impactful company, Business Results Group (BRG) that applies world renowned content to design and deliver solutions to corporates. I invite you to enjoy this conversation with Nicola Tyler with its nuggets of wisdom that are captured in her philosophy that, “Richer than. Smarter than. Does not equal better than.” #DuduMsomi #NicolaTyler #BusinessResultsGroup #Wisdom #Leadership #Wisdom #BusinessLeadership #WisdomPersonified #ConversationsWithDuduMsomi
Thu, 03 Dec 2020 - 41min - 25 - Episode 25 William Leach - #WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi
Teachers come in all shapes, ages, races, colours, educational level or lack thereof, class, fame or lack thereof and cultures. William Leach, former CEO of Saatchi and Saatchi Africa and co-founder of The Leach Partnership, Sydney, Australia has been one of the most significant and impactful teachers and mentors in my life with regards to Living, Leadership and Loving. His leadership instincts and courage at a young age, late 20s and early 30s, had him accepting opportunities to establish a Saatchi advertising agency in Budapest, Hungary at the end of Communism in 1990 and to lead the transformation and growth of Saatchi & Saatchi Africa from the end of Apartheid in 1994. This conversation has in its belly insightful wisdom of how leaders can lead transformation - whether of corporate cultures or business models, with diverse workforces without destroying value or creating toxic environments. Infact , actually inspiring incredible bottom line results. A lesson that many South African leaders could learn. William is a humble, kind and loving human being in all ways that count. It is rare that a human being inspires me in all spheres of life - work, home and play. He does. I even think, "When I grow up.....😃😀😄😁". Be inspired. Like I am. Mon, 02 Nov 2020 - 34min - 24 - Episode 24 Soma Zaaiman #WisdomPersonified with Dudu Msomi
I am in conversation with Soma Zaaiman, the Managing Director of BTS, who inspire and equip people to do the best work of their lives, creating better teams and better businesses. I have not met a South African more pained by our past, but at peace with how her race can be viewed by our history to not take things personally and to have the compassion to look forward and not minimise the pain and perspectives of what she has not lived as a privileged White female. I am proud to showcase a fellow proud South African who turns stereotypes on their heads and whose heart and mind are what I wish many of us would have to make this world better than we found it. She cannot understand why I selected her for this Wisdom Personified series. Her calmness is her strength. Her modesty intoxicating. Strength is not always loud. We don’t only learn from people that speak the loudest. On occasion, we must seek out those who exemplify extraordinary character in the mundaneness of life. Therein is hidden wisdom. She bears out the quote by Jonathan Harnisch, "The strongest people are not those who show strength in front of the world, but those who fight and win battles that others do not know anything about". Hope you enjoy my conversation with Sooms. That's what I call her.😄 #DuduMsomi #Wisdom #BusinessLeadership #Leadership #WisdomPersonified #ConversationsWithDuduMsomi #BTS #SomaZaaiman #Wisdom
Wed, 30 Sep 2020 - 22min - 23 - Episode 23 Tsakani Maluleke #WisdomPersonified Conversations with Dudu Msomi
Our guest in this episode is Tsakani Maluleke, the first woman to be appointed Deputy Auditor-General since the existence of the Office of the AG in South Africa. You are first struck by her beauty. The stereotypical tall, dark and beautiful kind. Then unarmed by her genuine warmth, intelligence and grounded-ness. An intoxicating combination. I keep telling her I love her surname – Maluleke. I don’t care who sweeps her off her feet next. How charming he is. She must never change her surname again. 😂😂😂 Our Deputy-Auditor General, Tsakani Maluleke was inspired to join the Chartered Accounting profession to challenge the underlying unsaid stereotypes and to upset the stats that reflected a low number of African people not passing the final chartered accountancy exam the first time round. Don’t tell her she cannot do something. That provides fuel to her ambitions and impact. Tsakani takes the Code of Professional Conduct for auditors to heart. Her passion and true appreciation of what it means to be a public servant inspires her ambition to facilitate the rebuilding of public confidence and trust in government and the auditing profession. There are many more layers to peel off this inspirational woman. Be inspired by the first instalment of her Wisdom with the hope of much more to come from her in the future. Thu, 06 Aug 2020 - 30min - 21 - Episode 21 #WisdomPersonified with Dudu Msomi
10 July is my sister, S'celo Msomi's birthday. This year would have been her 54th Born Day. I dedicate this Conversation with you to her. The positioning of my life is: I may not be perfect, but I am always me: Dudu Msomi. I was introduced to Rule Number 6 which is ‘Don’t take yourself so g—damn seriously' early in my working life. It has really inspired a life journey of a lighter heart in the midst of a life that is characterised by a non-stop active mind and busy schedule that I thoroughly love and are honoured to live. In not taking myself too seriously, I do take my identities that I choose to answer to: being an African and Dudu Msomi, very seriously. I strive to live my mission to exude and have authentic understanding and to leave the world a little better than I found it. I have an insatiable hunger for knowledge and I tirelessly seek ways to nourish my curiosity and love of learning. I enjoy learning not just from books, institutions and media, but from the experiences of others. And then to be a conduit for other people who have interest, to also be able to benefit from the minds and knowledge that I have access to. I must confess. Facilitating knowledge acquisition and exchange is my Ecstatic spot. Wisdom Personified Conversations with Dudu Msomi is one channel for facilitating, together with the work I do in Busara Leadership Partners, the strategic advisory and consulting firm I founded in 2009. I hope you enjoy this conversation. The wise learning I have gained in doing the Wisdom Personified series is captured in this quote by Roy T. Bennett, "It doesn't matter how many people you meet in your life; you just need the real ones who accept you for who you are and help you become who you should be". And I hope as you travel on this Wisdom search journey with me, we will both be quoting the wisdom of African individuals more and more. #DuduMsomi #Wisdom #BusinessLeadership #Leadership #WisdomPersonified #ConversationsWithDuduMsomi
