Women Together: Guest Elizabeth Peck
Author, Elizabeth Peck, will be joining the team of Women Together to discuss her book, “Why Does Mummy’s Tummy Hurt“. Broadcast LIVE on Wednesday, September 28th from 8:30 – 9:30pm – listeners will be invited to call 01223 375564 to share their experiences with speaking to their children about some of the “bigger issues” life throws their way.
About the Book: You’re a mother with a young child, who always wants to come with you everywhere, including to the bathroom. Every month you have the stress of making the child wait outside, confused and upset, while you now also upset and stressed out deal with sanitary products and all the rest. If only you had a child-friendly book to explain all this to your little one, so that they didn’t feel abandoned, scared, or confused, and you could have some privacy! Why Does Mummy’s Tummy Hurt? explains periods in a warm, child-centred and age-appropriate way, to help mums in exactly this situation.
About the Author: Elizabeth has grown in her love of writing since the birth of her daughter in 2015. Her inspiration is her desire to communicate both everyday and profound truths to her daughter, in ways that are at once accurate and beautiful. Exploring ideas from the menstrual cycle to the meaning of beauty itself, Elizabeth s writing allows children to consider concepts that help to shape how they understand the world. She teaches at St. Mary’s School in Cambridge.

Women Together - Season 3 - Episode 4 - Regenerative Farming
On this month’s Women Together, Genevieve will be speaking with Holly, Director of Regenerative Farming and County Coordinator for Gleaning Cornwall. We may be familiar with “gleaning” from the Old Testament story of Ruth and Naomi, but does gleaning have a place in our modern world today?
Gleaning, a term dating back to the bible was a right of the poor up to the late 18th century, under common law. It is the act of collecting leftover crops from farmers’ fields after they have been commercially harvested or on fields where it is not economically profitable to harvest. The practice has a rich history and is deeply connected to feeding those that did not have access to their own land (and therefore could not grow food for themselves). As the UK moves further away from knowing where its food is grown, gleaning brings people back to the land. Listen in to hear how Gleaning Cornwall is helping.

Women Together - Season 3 - Episode 3 - Christian Journalism
Join us this Wednesday, May 25th, for the monthly programme, Women Together. Jo Siedlecka, editor of Independent Catholic News, will be the guest. She’ll share with us what has been our experience as a Catholic Woman journalist.
A bit about Jo:
I’ve been a reporter now for over 30 years and love my job. After training at the London College of Communication, my first job was four years on a local London paper. From there I began freelancing – for the London Evening Standard, BBC and other outlets. The main subjects I like to cover have always been people, human rights and the environment. This naturally brought me to reporting on Church issues (and brought me back to my faith after a long absence). I met Mother Teresa, Catholic charities working with the homeless, and missionaries working overseas. I soon began writing for the Catholic press and did a stint at the Bishops’ Conference Catholic Media Office.
In 2000, Tertio Millennio Adveniente, called for lay people to play a more active role in the work of the Church. I thought about this and wondered what I could do. I realised there wasn’t a daily UK-based Catholic news service – so together with some friends I set up ICN. I try to follow the advice of the patron saint of journalists St Francis de Sales who said: “You can attract more flies with a spoonful of sugar than a bucket of vinegar.”

Women Together – Episode 12 – Breast Cancer UK
For their Live show on Thursday, July 1st, the presenters talk about breast cancer and discussions that can be discussed amongst prayer groups about awareness on reducing everyone’s risk. Genevieve interviews Thalie Martini, CEO of Breast Cancer UK.
Thalie has over 18 years’ experience working in senior roles in the public and third sectors in the UK and Australia. Before joining Breast Cancer UK, Thalie was CEO of Magpie Dance, the UK’s leading dance charity for people with learning disabilities. Thalie has run a number of high profile programmes including a national programme to transform care practice in schools for children with medical conditions at Diabetes UK; a major transformation project at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney; numerous statewide public health prevention programmes for New South Wales State government including a ground-breaking magistrates drug diversion initiative. Thalie is passionate about prevention and social empowerment. Having lost her mother to Breast Cancer in 2007, Thalie is committed to making breast cancer prevention a policy and public health priority.
Breast Cancer UK’s mission is to prevent breast cancer through education, scientific research, collaboration and policy change. Their website, www.breastcanceruk.org.uk, says that over 54,000 women and 390 men a year in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer. Yet a quarter of these cases are preventable through lifestyle changes. That means over 13,000 cases of breast cancer could be prevented, saving millions of lives, avoiding unnecessary suffering and reducing the cost to the NHS by over £1.5 billion a year. It is raising awareness of these preventable factors which drives Breast Cancer UK. They believe their work can have significant impact in helping women reduce their risk of developing breast cancer.
Breast Cancer UK has now launched our Breast Cancer UK Prevention Hub which is full of tips and advice on action they can take to reduce their risk of developing breast cancer. It is free, accessible and personalised and will give people the opportunity to develop their own personal prevention plan. Hospitality and friendship amongst people with, and people without, learning disabilities. Janice speaks to Reverend Debbie Ford and Lakshmi. These two women work with Lynn’s House. Lynn’s House is a Christian-inspired charity providing a space for hospitality and friendship amongst people with, and people without, learning disabilities. They seek to value each other not for what they achieve, but for who they are. They meet regularly as friends to share meals, outings, events, birthday and other celebrations, prayer, and worship. As core friends, volunteers, residents and supporters, they develop lasting relationships, and in doing so provide a contrasting experience to the often intensely competitive academic and work settings of Cambridge. In all they do, they try to offer, and be a sign of, the transformed relationships and fullness of life that the gospels point to.
Join us Thursday, 29th of April, LIVE, from 11am – 12pm, in which the ladies share an interview with Debbie and Lakshmi. Have you ever dreamt of doing something completely radical? A change of career, or a move abroad? Maybe you dream of getting out of the so-called ‘rat-race’ and experiencing life at a slower pace? Well, our guest today did just that. Following the trauma of walking through infertility, Sarah and her partner took the decision to sell-up, buy a campervan and tour Europe for a year! Only six months into their trip of a lifetime, they were then confronted with the reality of Covid-19 and being far from home. What led them to make such a radical move…. And was it worth it? Do we need more courage to live out Jesus’ calling for us to have an abundant life? What do you think? Is it ok to go against the grain sometimes? How do we know what’s reckless…. And what might just be an opportunity to step out and experience God in new ways?
Join us Thursday, 22nd of April, LIVE, from 11am – 12pm, in which the ladies share an interview with Sarah. Then, the phone lines will be open for the Radio Maria England community to call in and share their experiences or ask their questions! The number to call will be 02037 818 423.
