How CMS addresses oral and overall health through partnership and policy

This week, Matt elevates the conversation with Ashley McCauley, MS, RDH and her brother Jordan Wolf who are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for stilt walking once held by their father. Ashley is the first to admit that her upbringing was a bit out of the ordinary but she also says it is what led her to dentistry. She loves to make people smile and credits stilt walking for her work ethic, determination and ability to conquer her fears. While Matt’s fear of heights would get in the way, Ashley and her brother Jordan are determined to bring this record back to the family name once again. This week Matt discusses advocacy and the variance in scope of practice from state to state.  Matt chats with Sherri Foran, RDH, BSDH, MPA, PHDH who is the president of the Illinois Dental Hygienists’ Association. Matt and Sherri discuss the public health dental hygiene(PHDH) model in Illinois and the efforts to pass new legislation to increase the settings where PHDHs can practice. Advocacy is an important aspect of advancing access to care and dental hygienists play a critical role as oral health prevention specialists.
