This is a conversation I had today with a frequent commenter on my Instagram account. While it was not as productive, as I would have hoped, I believe that a primary reason why it didn’t evolve into angry, personal attacks and ugliness is because I maintained a commitment to my “three pillars” of humility, genuine, curiosity, and grace .

The conversation was about politics and at the core of it, I believe that disagreements or misunderstandings about the difference between objectivity and subjectivity are the root of disagreement . Whether it be due to ego, ideological possession, or something else…

For this episode, I thought I would sit down and do a solo episode since that is what a lot of people seem to have been asking for. I want to take on current topics that are relevant or controversial and do a deep dive to highlight different perspectives and viewpoints on said topics. 

For today, I thought I’d start with the concept of the deep state because that always gets people talking. In the episode, I covered questions like what or who is the deep state and whether the deep state is just normal human nature. I do a deep dive into Trump and how he has affected our nation’s perception of the deep state. I talk about how the anti-establishment has changed drastically over the last few decades and how we can move forward towards a less corrupt future.

On this episode of Cylinder Radio, I speak with Calvin Lunt, a young man from the UK who formerly lived as a trans-woman and has since transitioned back to living as his birth gender. Calvin shares the story of how spirituality and self-discovery helped him come to terms with himself and finally break free from the masks he wore to escape from his own self-hatred. 

He shares the story of his childhood, how we slowly stepped into the world of drag and with time, started identifying as transgender. He talks about desire to keep running from himself and taking his escapism to higher and higher extremes. He then touches on his experience with transitioning and how he finally realised that he wasn’t actually a trans woman , he was a gay man.

Lastly, we discuss the dangers of socially rewarding LGBTQ children, whether puberty blockers are really irreversible and if pushing transgenderism is actually an ingrained form of homophobia.

My guest for today’s episode of Cylinder Radio is Ben Kjar. He is a motivational speaker, wrestler and has an upcoming documentary and book coming about his awesome life story. During our conversation, we talk about why the Equal Rights Amendment is needed today and how it would protect everyone’s rights regardless of gender. In this episode of Cylinder Radio, I talk to a close friend of mine about her journey from being pro-choice and having abortions herself to being fully pro-life today. 

In the episode, Michelle tells the story of how she went from being a passionate pro-choice advocate to changing her mind and being pro-life. She talks about her own experience with having multiple abortions, everything that she wasn’t told, what the procedures were like and how much of an emotional toll it took on her.

This is second episode in the series on RETHINKING EDUCATION.  In this episode, Will sits down with Mandy Manning.  Mandy was recognized as the 2018 National Teacher of the Year for her work at Ferris High School where she works with refugee children.  Will and Mandy discuss the American Educational System and how it is both succeeding and falling short.  Topics such as institutionalized discrimination, technology, charter & independent schools, and how to improve school so that every student would be able to excel.  

This is the first in a series on RETHINKING EDUCATION.  In this episode, Will sits down with Mike O'Keefe.  Mike is a language arts teacher and co-founder of the educational consulting company Uncommon Education.  Having met over a shared interest in alternative ways of approaching school, Will and Mike discuss the practical purposes of deep reading, the pros and cons of shortcuts like Sparknotes, and being an effective communicator.  

In this episode, Will sits down with Clay Banks.  Clay is a business owner who co-founded a home & school security system called Haven Lock.  Will and Clay discuss the complicated nature of school safety, why school shootings are on the rise, how entrepreneurship can improve the world, and practical ways to prevent and prepare for school violence.   

In this episode, Will sits down with Clarissa Phalen.  Clarissa is a San Antonio Police Officer, in the Texas Army National Guard, and a mom.  Will and Clarissa do a deep dive into police controversy, what the daily life is like for a cop, how being a woman affects her ability to do the job, and how she is affected mentally by the stresses of the job.  This is a conversation that hit on many levels and no stone is left unturned.

In this episode Will sits down with first-generation American Arman Fouladpouri to discuss religious intolerance and civil discourse via social media.  Arman and will began a discussion on a congresswoman's Instagram page and it progressed all the way to the podcast!  We discuss his Muslim-Iranian roots, the complicated nature of peace in the Middle East, popular politicians, and how to have conversations rooted in curiosity rather than debate.

In this episode Will sits down with Pastor Billy Calderwood or Media City Church in Burbank, CA to discuss Christianity.  Despite being the most popular religion in the world, Christianity has many detractors and the critiques of the faith were addressed in a thoughtful and open manner during this discussion.  The conversation also covered philosophical ideas of truth, meaning, and how to live your best life.

In this episode Will sits down with Elizabeth Rhodes, who created the childrens book "Feminism is For Boys".  Topics discussed include the fluid definition of "Feminism", why certain privileges take precedence over others, male emotional expression, Transgendered athletes, complex nature of parenting, and more.

In the episode, Will sits down with Feminist activist Destiny Herndon-De La Rosa from New Wave Feminists to discuss the abortion issue and how that intersects with womens' equality.  

In this episode Will sits down with Kyle Carter.  Kyle has had a very diverse and fascinating life and he shares his experiences with Will as they both navigate the concept of "The American Dream".  Wealth inequality, technological advancements, and racial/cultural hurdles are discussed and challenged in this episode.

In this episode of the Cylinder Radio podcast, Will speaks with Chloe Cole, a former trans boy who started transitioning at 13 and detransitioned back to her female gender at 16.  

Chloe tells the heartbreaking story of her teenage years, how and why she came to identify as trans, when she started medically transitioning and the after effects of puberty blockers, testosterone and a mastectomy at 15 years of age. 

Then she shares how she came to realize that in her case transitioning was the biggest mistake of her life, why she decided to go public with her story and why she thinks that we will see more and more ‘detransitioners’. 

Finally, Will and Chloe stress the importance of finding nuance within the transgender debate, highlighting that negative transition experiences like Chloe’s should be able to be shared alongside the successful transition stories of other transgender individuals.

Angel is also the Director of Messaging & Editorial for the Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism (FAIR) as well as the host for FAIR’s podcast called Fair Perspectives. 

During their talk, Will and Angel talk about the importance of humility and true open-mindedness. How do you developed real open-mindedness? Why do people feel so threatened when their ideas and beliefs are challenged?

Axel Brito chose to use his opportunity as valedictorian of his graduating class to call out (by name) those who are at the root of the rot and corruption within public education for Los Angeles.  In front of thousands of people at the infamous Hollywood Bowl, this young man displayed tremendous bravery to call for a change.
