The Lions are now in full-on game week mode as they get set for the LA Rams invasion on Sunday. Today the team named its captains for 2024 with one new addition, Aidan Hutchinson. No surprise, Hutch is a natural leader and gets the nod replacing Charles Harris who is no longer on the team. Also, Dan Campbell updates the injury situation for Sunday. It has happened. Sports Illustrated has put the Lions on their Football Preview cover and picks them to win it all. Is there still an SI cover jinx? We discuss that. There is nothing more scary than seeing Penei Sewell in pain on the ground. That took place today in Allen Park as the Pro Bowl RT injured his left foot. The lions said it was a foot injury and he is being evaluated as we speak. Sewell was able to walk off the field with a limp and did not need a cart. We discuss that. Also, former Lions QB and World Champ with the Steelers, Charlie Batch, is our guest. We talk Lions, his career, and the Steelers this weekend.

Preseason Game #2 is slated for tomorrow afternoon in Kansas City. Matt talks about 3 players he will keep a close watch on in this contest. Matt Dery has your Thursday Locked on Lions. KC coach Andy Reid says he is going to play his starters for a half on Saturday against Detroit. What a test this will be for the Lions younger players for sure and that includes QB Hendon Hooker, who should start Saturday in KC. We have officially hit the dog days of the preseason. yes, there is a team scrimmage tomorrow and yes, Lions at KC on Saturday, but it is starting to drag. There are not a ton of camp battles or roster spots that we are dying to discuss. This team is ready and ready to win. We have the latest on Jahmyr Gibbs, roster moves, available WR's, and a JJ McCarthy update as well.

Some major news out of Allen Park today as the Lions waive/injured Antoine Green. The wideout was trying to step up and become the team's 4th WR but now he is gone. Green suffered a neck injury and concussion the other night and now if he returns he would have to be on IR. The team also has added QB Jake Fromm. We discuss that and more. Also, our Call of the Day.

We recap last night's 14-3 loss again to the Giants. Backup QB remains a concern. PFF grades are out and there were some scores that made no sense.. at all. Also, a backup O Lineman is done for the year and a wild prediction about the NFC North.

It was not a great night for the Lions. They fall to the New York Giants 14-3 in Preseason Game #1. Lions offense could not get going under Nate Sudfeld, who started at QB. Hendon Hooker did better, but the offense only managed a Jake Bates 53 yard FG. Defense did alright and there were some positives.

Detroit Lions and New York Giants battled in NFL Preseason Game #1 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey with the Giants winning 14-3.

With the Detroit Lions spending the entire week in New Jersey, we thought we would bring you a special Locked on Lions and Locked on Giants crossover with Patricia Traina. There will be a fresh Kicking competition with the Detroit Lions come tomorrow. Michael Badgley's season is over due to a torn hamstring, so that means Jake Bates has the job for right now. Lions will be working out other kickers and signing someone shortly. Badgley goes on IR and he is out for the season. Bates was a cult hero for the UFL's Michigan Panthers. Also, Day 3 camp observations. An ode to Jerry Jacobs. And a bold prediction that might not be so bold.

It has already started at Training Camp. The Lions working in Jahmyr Gibbs at wide receiver a little bit. The kid showed flashes last year of stardom and now OC Ben Johnson has him running routes and working with the WR group in drills. Day 2 of Training Camp also featured a strong day from Jake Bates, Brian branch seeing some time at Safety, and Daurice Fountain emerging. The Detroit Lions have renamed 222 Rod Wood Drive's facility, the Meijer Performance Center as the grocery chain has purchased the naming rights. Better news is that the team has had a roof on the stands in two different spots so that the fans will be shaded and less hot at the open practices. The Lions have done it. UFL star kicker Jake Bates has, according to ESPN, agreed on a two year deal with the Detroit Lions. Bates, who is known for hitting 60 yarders with ease at Ford Field, will compete with Mike Badgley and James Turner for the kicking job. It is a job that is in flux every year for the Lions it seems. Bates was All-UFL after making 17 field goals during the season for the Panthers. In addition, should the Lions entertain bringing back Adrian Martinez? Isaiah Buggs arrested again and Sam LaPorta gets some love again.

How good was Iffy Melifonwu at the end of last season? He played a huge role for the Lions in their run to an NFC North title and 2 playoff wins. The Detroit Lions have reportedly made Jared Goff the second highest paid QB in all of the NFL. 53 Million Dollars a year for Goff on a new 4 year deal. 170 Million Dollars guaranteed. What a job by the Lions to get this contract done and completed. Detroit has now spent 444 million dollars on 3 of their own free agents this offseason: Goff, Sewell, and St. Brown.
