In this episode, Jason tells you the optimal way to train both strength and conditioning so that not only will you improve your heart health, you'll get jacked and strong while you're at it.
There are various studies on concurrent programming and whether or not the interference effect is a limiting factor.
A key component to NOT having your conditioning bleed into your strength & hypertrophy gains is twofold:
1. The dose needs to be monitored, optimal being between 2-3x per week x 30-50 minutes.
2. The level of intensity needs to be monitored - too close to one's VO2 max will indeed result in an interference effect - optimal being under 80% of one's V02 Max.
Long story short, when aerobic training is used correctly it can actually aid both performance and lean tissue gains - more aerobic fitness also means more mitochondria and therefore more factories to process the oxygen to generate more energy for repair. References:

What is the CxC Method? A concurrent method of training both strength, hypertrophy, and aerobic modalities within the same week of training.
Staple Training Methods:
Strength Methods: Submaximal Effort Method, Dynamic Effort Method, Cluster Sets, Maximal Effort Method, Repeated Effort Method, Explosive Strength Method Conditioning: Cardiac Output Method, Strongman Endurance, Tempo Intervals, Mixed Modality Aerobic ConditioningThis system allows us to train all qualities of fitness optimally within a given week. This keeps the programming fun/engaging and devoid of overuse injuries or overtraining.
Most of my clients formerly trained CrossFit at a local box which means most of my clients are very Type A.
They realized training CF for the rest of their lives simply wasn’t sustainable but still wanted to be challenged in new ways and compete with themselves.
This method of training is the same method I’ve used with over 200 CF boxes and over 50,000 people worldwide!

Tue, 22 Feb 2022 - 5 - Ep 5: How to Program Finishers
Performing strength & conditioning in the same session has become all too common. Why? Because people want the illusion of feeling like they are ‘doing more.’ The interesting part is that these same people would likely get better results if they focused on one thing each session.
Or if they kept the energy demands of the training session in alignment at least training both strength & conditioning modalities wouldn’t interfere with long-term gains.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Keep Strength Work Strength Work:You don't need to always do something 'metabolic' in every session, but if you must I'm going to give you some guidelines. Keep Conditioning Work Conditioning Work:I know, that probably caught you off guard, lol, but seriously train your conditioning as its own training session not in conjunction with 100 other things. If You Decide To Combine The Two:If you must combine strength & conditioning, perform more anaerobically demanding in conjunction with your strength work and keep your aerobic work as its own session on another day.
