Do you feel like you are hitting a wall with potential clients? In today’s episode, we talk about a tool you can use to get people to open up and deeply engage with you. Today, we teach you the secret magic of open-ended questions.
Open-ended questions help you uncover the other person’s motivation, discover their priorities, and build rapport with them. When you pair open-ended questions with reflective listening and follow-up questions, you can learn their most powerful motivator—their “why.” Knowing a person’s “why” is the key to making a sale.
In this episode, we give you multiple open-ended questions you can fall back on in any conversation with a lead. With a little practice, you will master open-ended questions and start reaping the rewards.

A lot of leaders are too afraid to talk about it. Still, the fact is, we all have thought about quitting at some point or another, especially with all the recent lawsuits, high interest rates, and skyrocketing inventory. Here at Empire Building, we’re not afraid to take on uncomfortable topics. Today’s episode is all about quitting.
First, we look at why people quit: lack of progress, burnout, misalignment with goals, persistent obstacles, and lack of joy or fulfillment. Then, we talk about how to respond to these feelings, including rewriting your job description or making a big pivot.
Most importantly, we talk about quitting the right way if that’s what you decide is best. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you want guidance on how to exit your business without losing all your revenue.

Success leaves clues. Failure leaves clues, too. In this episode, we discuss recent personal wins and losses and what we have learned from them.
We analyze the departure of a recent hire and what clues that situation gives us about how to improve our leadership, hiring, and managing skills. We also talk about getting off track with personal health and how it can bring our attention back to what really matters.
We also celebrate our wins. Seychelle was able to run her company remotely for the summer, and Sarah was able to pull her company out of stagnation. These wins left us clues about the power of giving your team autonomy and, of course, the wisdom found in “Good to Great.”
It’s hard to be this vulnerable and transparent on a podcast, but that’s what we’re all about here at Empire Building. That’s what it takes to build a big business and a bigger life!

Amanda Han is on a mission to make taxes sexy… or at least somewhat understandable. Amanda Han is a CPA, real estate investor, author, and social media influencer. She joins us on the show today to share her empire-building journey and give us nuggets of wisdom about tax planning.
As a child, Amanda Han ran around with her cousins, collecting rents on behalf of their non-English-speaking grandparents. After years of working for a big accounting firm, she decided to get back to her roots. Today, she runs an accounting business for individual real estate investors, helping them build generational wealth.
Amanda is equal parts funny, thoughtful, and genius. She gives us tips on S corps, tax deductions, and accelerated deductions. In the next breath, she tells us how she binges on social media once her kids go to sleep.

Welcome back for Part Two of our episode on burnout!
As a reminder, in Part One, we covered the five reasons you're burnt out:
- You don't know what matters most to you. If you do, you aren't prioritizing it. You think you can do it all, have it all, and know it all. You take no time for recovery after stress. You don't know your numbers, especially your finances. You don't get that it's not about winning; it's who you become on the way.
In the last episode, we covered what to do about number 1 and number 2, so today, we'll jump right in at number 3. We break down stress into seven different categories and give you tactics for how to recover from each one. We identify the key financial figures you should know. We wrap up with a discussion about how important it is to value your journey and pick good fellow travelers.

The most rewarding part of building a big business is that you get to bring other people on the journey with you. You need to make sure they’re the right people, though. In this episode, we go over how to attract the best talent for your team.
We break it down into five steps: be a confident leader, define your value proposition, evaluate your culture, determine who you’re missing, and create a talent funnel. For each one, we give specific tactics.
The people you work with are key to your success and your happiness. We hope this episode helps you build and maintain an excellent squad!

As women, especially Empire Builders, we are at high risk of being overcommitted. It’s even considered normal for a lot of us, but we should expect better for our lives. Our lives should be filled with rest, family time, and enjoyment. In this episode, we cover how to step back from being overcommitted and how to avoid it moving forward.
We talk about using a physical pen to paper and a color-coded highlighter scheduling system. We talk through how to back out, apologize, and ask for help. Most importantly, we talk about learning to say that word we all have been trained to hate, “no.” No is a beautiful word.
So schedule that rest time, delegate what you can, and live the life you’ve always dreamed of.

First, we cover nutrition: How to make sure you drink plenty of water, protein-packed snack ideas, and more tips on how to fit healthy fuel into your busy life. See below for Tiffany’s Powerball recipe!

A huge part of building big businesses and even bigger lives is determining the best balance between cash flow and equity for you and your family at a particular time. In today’s show, we dive into the details of each and how to calculate the right balance.
Cash flow is all about the money you make regularly, while equity is your stake in an asset. There are risks and benefits to both. Cash flow pays the bills. Equity builds wealth. Cash flow can be affected by market changes and business hiccups. Equity relies on the value of an asset going up, which is never guaranteed.
The most important aspect of finding the right balance is knowing your specific goals. From there, you can create a strategy and action plan, identifying metrics to measure success.
These are important conversations we need to be having—thank you for joining us!

In our busy lives, it can feel impossible to add yet another thing to our plate, much less raise millions of dollars for charity. But it is possible! And not just that, it’s fun and will help your business!
In this episode, we show you how to integrate supporting charities into your life and business. We tell you about what has worked for us: Hosting annual events, making personal donations, or donating time through volunteer work. We discuss how to incorporate lead generation, team building, and family time into these activities.
Plus, we let you in on the secret to making it all work: You don’t need to raise millions of dollars in one day. Consistency is best. It may take you years and years of putting on an annual fundraiser to even get close to a million dollars, but that consistency will be priceless for the people you are helping.
So, take a listen and join us in making the world, our businesses, and our lives a little better each day.

As a leader, it’s easy to get hooked on solving every problem for your organization—it feels great to be the hero. However, this can actually hinder your team’s development. In today’s episode, we are going to show you how to step back and empower your team to build their problem-solving skills.
Tiffany has crafted a five-stage framework to help assess where a team member is in their problem-solving journey and guide them to the next level when they’re ready.
Here’s a breakdown of the stages:
Stage One: Team members ignore issues and don’t communicate them.Stage Two: They start communicating these issues.Stage Three: They communicate issues and bring at least three potential solutions, which is a key step in developing their problem-solving abilities.Stage Four: They communicate the problem, propose three solutions, and recommend a plan of action.Stage Five: They clearly state the problem, suggest three solutions, and resolve the issue on their own.Encourage your team to listen to this episode, identify their current stage, and discuss their goals for growth.

“Your new life is going to cost you your old one. It’s going to cost you your comfort zone and your sense of direction. It’s going to cost you relationships and friends. It’s going to cost you being liked and understood. It doesn’t matter. The people who are meant for you are going to meet you on the other side. You’re going to build a new comfort zone around the things that actually move you forward. Instead of being liked, you’re going to be loved. Instead of being understood, you’re going to be seen. All you’re going to lose is what was built for a person you no longer are.” - Brianna Wiest
If that quote challenges you, inspires you, touches something inside of you, then you are our people. Brianna Wiest is an absolute favorite of all of us here at Empire Builders, and we’ve unanimously chosen her as our keynote speaker for our Her Best Life 2024 Flagship Experience in Miami this September.
In this episode, we discuss why we chose Brianna as our keynote and read some of our favorite quotes from her best-selling books “The Mountain is You,” “The Pivot Year,” and more. If conversations about self-compassion, discomfort, purpose, and power fuel you, you’re going to love this episode, and you’re going to love our Her Best Life event.

Vulnerability might seem the opposite of strong leadership, but it’s actually foundational to it. In today’s episode, we talk about the benefits of being vulnerable and authentic. Plus, we give you three practices to unlock this superpower for yourself.
Brené Brown’s 2010 Ted Talk on The Power of Vulnerability sparked a new, positive way of looking at vulnerability. Vulnerability is the birthplace of joy, belonging, creativity, and love. It builds trust among teams. It allows us to honestly evaluate problems and come up with sustainable solutions. Vulnerability also gives back to us all the mental, emotional, and even physical energy we spend trying to hide our flaws and who we really are.
So, how do you start to unlock vulnerability and authenticity, especially if you’re a woman leader in the workplace? First, lean into your strengths so that you feel confident in allowing people to know about your weaknesses. Second, discover and ask for what you truly need. Third, develop and enhance your support system.
Don’t worry. We break this all down in detail in this episode and give you firsthand stories about how we have implemented vulnerability and authenticity as superpowers in our own businesses and lives.

Have you ever faced a situation where somebody in your life– a client, family member, team member– was stuck in non-action? Things weren’t going well and they just weren’t doing what they needed to do to change the situation?
In today’s show, we help you understand the psychology of non-action and teach you how to lead people past it.
When things aren’t going well, people try to find reasons other than themselves as the cause. It just hurts too much to admit they may be the cause. Plus, they may feel too overwhelmed or unequipped to do something about it. As a leader, it is your job to help them move through this.
We dive into details for each of the five steps you need to take. 1) Help them face reality with data and information; 2) Ask open-ended questions to get their buy-in; 3) Show them tactics of how to do it; 4) Give a deadline for a check-in; and 5) Reiterate your belief in them and remind them what’s in it for them.

In any part of life, but especially in real estate sales, communication is critical. In this episode, we dive into DiSC, the personality assessment that helps everyone communicate and understand each other better.
DiSC stands for the four main personality profiles in the model. “D” is for dominance, “i” is for influence, “S” is for steadiness, and “C” is for conscientiousness. You can score high in more than one.
We dig into the details of each one, but more importantly we apply the profiles to real life examples in our businesses and home lives. Plus we share our own DiSC scores– If you’re a fan of the podcast, you can probably guess a few of them!

Here at Empire Building, we’re all about building a big business, and more importantly, a bigger life. So today we dive into how to live a big, long, healthy, robust life. We are talking Blue Zones.
Blue Zones are parts of the world where people live the longest. Dan Buettner came up with the term while studying the places that have the highest life expectancy or with the highest proportions of people who reach age 100: Barbagia region of Sardinia; Ikaria, Greece; Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica; Seventh Day Adventists in Loma Linda California; and Okinawa, Japan.
In this episode, we review the 9 daily habits that Dan identified across these communities. They are: Move naturally, have purpose, down shift, eat to 80% full, stick to a plant-based diet, drink alcohol moderately, belong to a community, put your family first, and find your circle of support.
We dive into the details of each one and talk about how we can find space for them in our own lives as Empire Builders.

So what can we do to reduce decision fatigue? Kymber and Sarah discuss the top 6 keys: Protect your mindset and confidence, decrease the number of decisions you face, make lists and prioritize, lean into delegation, take breaks, practice self-care.

Building an empire is exhilarating, but let's be real—it's far from flawless. If you're anything like me, you've had your fair share of moments over the years where you just wish you could hit a rewind button. I've been reflecting on my 17-year journey, from the highs to the very lows. And honestly? I can be my harshest critic. Aspiring for excellence means inevitably stumbling upon mistakes. Yet, in the midst of empire building, it's those genuine, deep-rooted relationships that matter the most. And let's face it, in any relationship, we're bound to slip, trip, and sometimes nosedive. But here's the silver lining: for those relationships that truly matter, there's a path to redemption. We're diving deep into that. Let's uncover the seven essential steps to bounce back when you falter as an empire builder.

Building an empire is a worthy goal, but that doesn’t mean it’s without its stressors. It can even be hard to notice in the moment. Imagine being so disconnected from your own body that you only recognize its distress when you're completely worn down. That's a state no leader wants to find themselves in, and certainly not one we want for our team members. Recognizing the signs your body sends you can be a powerful tool in avoiding this level of burnout.
So, for the next two weeks, we're going to delve into the mechanics of our brains, understand how our bodies react, and discover ways to leverage that brainpower to alter our responses and cultivate healthier relationships and outcomes.
This week, we'll unravel the basic structures of the brain and its development, a critical step towards understanding what goes on in your mind and body when faced with a threat. So, prepare yourself for a journey of self-discovery, all in the pursuit of healthier, more effective leadership.

In today's episode, we're diving deep into our library as we champion the notion, "Leaders are Readers." We're of the belief that there's no habit quite as enriching, or with as potent an ROI, as reading a book. Whether you're a fan of paper or an Audible enthusiast, we can't emphasize enough the importance of making reading a part of your daily routine. Consider this - a book usually costs no more than $15-25, but even a single nugget of wisdom you glean from it could have a life-altering impact. Isn't that an incredible ROI?
Now, you might wonder - what kind of books should I read? We're glad you asked. The beauty of books lies in their diversity. From fiction to business and leadership non-fiction, every genre has the potential to offer valuable insights. Remember, each book tells a story, often one that we can learn from, relate to, and apply in our own lives.
And, what's even more exciting about reading books? They're essentially shortcuts to wisdom. You don't need to go through the experiences of the authors or the characters. Their journeys, lessons, struggles, and victories are served to you on a platter, for you to learn from and apply without going through the same hardship or expense. The average American reads around 12 books a year, while half read just four or fewer. We challenge you to exceed that average, to immerse yourself in the wealth of knowledge that books offer.
So join us today as we delve into our favorite books, exploring the invaluable lessons they've taught us. Prepare yourself for an insightful journey that could fundamentally alter your perspective and perhaps even your life.
