Landon Smith is an artist mostly known for his alias “Dirtyzen”. A creative visionary & spiritual teacher, he hangs his hat in the world of music by interlacing a sub-genre of dubstep called ‘chillstep’ with philosophical spiritual talks from well-known masters. Landon takes the listener on a journey that seeks to liberate and amplify one’s experiential understanding of Eastern spiritual practices. He uses his inner calling of karma yoga to propagate insights for others on his various social media and art-hosting platforms. He has a quite eloquent eye for film, a trained ear for sound, and an exquisite way with words. Landon has devoted his life to the expression of spiritual passion through his art. He joins us on the podcast to discuss various spiritual topics, teachers, personal experiences, and the beautiful adventures of awakening into one’s true Self.
Teachers, subjects, and topics mentioned in this episode:
Ram Dass, Hinduism, Buddhism, Eastern Philosophy, Dzogchen, Advaita-Vedanta, Alan Watts, Terence McKenna, Mooji, Vishuddha Das, Gemstone Tarot, astrology, tarot-cards, psychedelics, discernment, the algorithm, non-dualism, the illusive self, the no-self paradox, spiritual bypassing, lots more Ram Dass (we both really, really love Ram Dass), toxic positivity, integration, intellectual vs. intuitive knowing, the path of the guru, the evolving path for all, placing God outside of one’s-self, scars, tattoos, and much more.
Chillstep is a sub-genre of dubstep music that is relatively slow and relaxed, which Landon pairs brilliantly with lectures from spiritual teachers. I find his mixes perfect for snowboarding, long drives, walks in headphones, morning listening, and hikes.I had an extremely great time hanging with Landon and discussing all this juicy spiritual stuff. Tue, 19 Dec 2023 - 103 - 0102 with Megan Hawkins From 'BetterU' Psychedelic Therapy - At Home Ketamine Therapy To Heal Anxiety And Depression
To skip solo intro:@11:03
In this episode, we get to meet Megan Hawkins, one of the Co-Founders of BetterU Psychedelic Therapy. She joins us from her home in Los Angeles, where she and her partner Derek Du Chesne have been recently working on opening the first brick-and-mortar location for BetterU.
Once an international model, Megan's life took a dramatic turn when she was shot at 19 yrs old. She entered the mental health system, was prescribed a mountain of medications, and like many, was overdiagnosed and overmedicated. Seeking solace from significant trauma, she left modeling for a career in mortgages and real estate, finding success but not fulfillment. Her battle with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and PTSD persisted until 2021, when she discovered the life-changing potential of ketamine therapy. Now, she's a support and integration coach at Better U Psychedelic Therapy, using her journey to connect with and guide others on their path to recovery.
The team at BetterU works with those suffering from PTSD, Anxiety, and Depression to strategically treat these disorders with a whole treatment plan that surrounds this substance known as ketamine. Ketamine is a psychedelic non-psychedelic that, when paired with the right set, setting, intention, and work - provides a very large percentage of its patients with positive results in their overall mental health.
Perhaps you've never heard of this 'ketamine', or psychedelic therapy even, and you've never taken psilocybin - and you're wondering 'Magic mushrooms to heal my depression?' 'A horse tranquilizer for healing trauma?' 'LSD to relax?' 'Molly for my grandpa's night terrors?' 'Dude, what?' - Well, strap in because this one is for both the newcomers and the seasoned psychonauts. We're here to talk about making a diary entry, taking dissociative drugs, putting on a full blindfold, and laying on your back while headphones dance beautiful music through you - and just how the heck that could possibly heal depression.I gave Ketamine Therapy a try myself a few months back. I found this company called "BetterU" and went through the whole process of 8 at-home sessions. I loved the way this company set everything up so well that I sent an email to interview one of them. Luckily Megan was available, and she joins us here to share her wisdom and perspective.
When Megan, at 19, found herself in a nightclub unknowingly sitting behind a well-known gangster, when there was an assassination attempt on that gangster from a shooter on the balcony above. Megan was struck by a stray bullet, and her life began to unfold quite differently from that night. She shares some of her personal journey and lays out how she's landed herself in the orbit of ketamine therapy and psychedelic healing many years later.
Ketamine isn't just about the dose or the drug, 'Set' and 'Setting' are as important as the substance. BetterU gives you the playbook and structure for the most fruitful set and setting. The setup that's done prior to the trip changes the entire thing.
I tried to shape this episode as informative to newcomers as a way of introducing Ketamine Therapy to those who haven't experienced ketamine, and emphasizing the difference between the use of Ketamine as a street drug/horse tranquilizer vs. in a therapeutic environment.
We start this episode with info about BetterU and Ketamine. Megan talks about what led to BetterU and we talk about the importance of taking Ketamine and psychedelics seriously, and the value of care and quality. She lays out the process of taking ketamine therapeutically, how long we take the drug, how many sessions per week, she lays out some fantastic analogies and examples that are easy to grasp and I try to add my personal experience as it relates to what Megan is explaining about Ketamine. We covered if you can go to work after a ketamine therapy session, if you can drive, if it hurts your stomach, it's safety, she talks about the process of setting up a trip, taking it with stimulants and medications, and if SSRI's and ketamine can go together. We talk about fasting, diet and preparation, about having a trip monitor, the importance of journaling for healing and how it seems to work, we talk about the music that drives the session, things to expect and experience during the trip, using the breath as an anchor, 'going crazy' and the fear of bad trips, those who shouldn't do psychedelics, some of the screening process, fear of the loss of control, Megan shares her traumatic experience that altered the course of her life, her journey of healing and suffering after the initial trauma and how it's changed her, shifting and adjusting to new identities and versions of ourselves, and much much more. For more on BetterU checkout their social media pages @betterucare and https://www.betterucare.com/
Their Youtube channel: https://youtube.com/@ketaminetherapy?si=GRKXYfnJVSYPaZ7kSome notable quotes from the episode:
"We tend to focus on the big things that we're coming to this treatment for. 'I'm severely depressed, I have crippling anxiety, how do I get rid of these huge things?'. We want that magic pill to fix us and heal us. We want it to go away. But the way that this really works, is it starts off slow. It's the little things that start trickling in, they start compounding into the bigger things. Psychedelics, they tend to give us what we need, not necessarily what we want. A lot of the times we have to go through the things that we need in order to get to the things we want."
"I think that in life it's about 10 percent of what happens to you and 90 percent how you react or respond to things. Things are just going to happen. You could not have prepared for it, there's absolutely nothing you could've done to avoid it or change it. That's the way of the world. The world, it's got a mind of it's own, it's going to keep on spinning, so why get out and push?"
"You worked so hard to have this armor, to put on this mask, that protects you from any external threat. Not knowing that sometimes the biggest threat is inside our armor, it's inside our minds."
"It's not only just the physical set and setting that you're in, it's the MIND-set you're in going into it. If you're going into this feeling closed off, just like with any experience in life, the expectations or pre-conceived notions you go into any kind of experience with is more likely than not going to be the outcome." - "Yeah, you'll find ways to make that true."
"I lost my professional purpose, then romantic, then my last sense of freedom since when I had initially moved away from home. So at that point, that's where I hit my real rock bottom."
"Over the past 9 years I've been learning every step of the way. I'm never gonna not be learning, mental health is a journey not a destination. A lot of us don't tend to remember as often, we're like "I just wanna get here, then I'll be good!" but, it's like no, no, no - we're fluid creatures, we're constantly changing and evolving, always trying to be a better version of who we were yesterday. It's reminding people that it's so easy to be so hard on ourselves. "Why can't I just GET it together?" "Why can't I just be this?" "Why am I always doing this to myself?" - it's important to remember that the only way out, is through. You have to be patient with yourself, you have to give yourself grace. It is okay to not be okay."
"I'm working with patients, I'm talking with them, when they are that rock bottom place in themself when they're first coming to this treatment for whatever the reason is, whatever they've gone through, whatever pain or trauma...

"This is how a human being can change: There's a worm addicted to eating grape leaves. Suddenly. He wakes up, call it Grace, whatever, something wakes him, and he's no longer a worm. He's the entire vineyard, and orchard too, the fruit, the trunks, a growing wisdom and joy that doesn't need to devour." Rumi
0:00 - 22:00 - solocast intro
The interview starts at 22:36I was recently a guest on "The Spiritual Awakening Show" and the last 100 minutes of this episode is that conversation, where the first 22 is a solocast of me blabbering on about my spiritual puberty and hitting 100 episodes. I share my experience having what I've grown to know as "A Kundalini Awakening" and some of my journey along the way. A Spiritual Awakening is very personal and not for everyone to have to know or understand deeply, it is work done by the individual experiencing the change in consciousness. I find myself in a peculiar spot to share some of the journey through my online voice and reach, and that's what I am doing here. Thanks for listening!
More on Brent's show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dx__XZx3hwg
“So, you have to ask yourself: do you think human creativity matters?Well, hmm.
Most people don’t spend a lot of time thinking about poetry, right? They have a life to live and they’re not really that concerned with Allen Ginsberg’s poems or anybody’s poems.
Until; their father dies, they go to a funeral, you lose a child, somebody breaks your heart, they don’t love you anymore, and all the sudden, you’re desperate for making sense out of this life, and
‘Has anybody ever felt this bad before? How did they come out of this cloud?’
- Or the inverse; something great. You meet somebody and your heart explodes, you love them so much you can’t even see straight, you know, you’re dizzy.
‘Did anybody feel like this before? What is happening to me?’
And that’s when art’s not a luxury, it’s actually sustenance. We need it.
OK. Well, what is it?
Human Creativity is Nature manifest in us.
I believe that we are here on this star and space to try to help one another.
And first, we have to survive, and then we have to thrive.
And to thrive, to express ourselves, alright, well, here’s the rub: we have to know ourselves.
What do you love?
And if you get close to what you love, who you are is revealed to you, and it expands.
Whenever you talk about creativity, it can have this kind of feel that it’s just nice, or it’s warm or it’s something pleasant.
It’s not.
It’s vital.
It’s the way we heal each other.
In singing our song, in telling our story, in inviting you to say ‘Hey, listen to me, and I’ll listen to you,” - we’re starting a dialogue, and when you do that, this healing happens, and we come out of our corners, and we start to witness each other’s common humanity, we start to assert it. And when we do that, really good things happen. So, if you want to help your community, if you want to help your family, if you want to help your friends, you have to express yourself. And to express yourself, you have to know yourself.
It’s actually super easy.
You just have to follow your love.
There is no path.
There’s no path till you walk it,
and you have to be willing to play the fool.”
- Ethan Hawke

"We become increasingly aware of wherever our pain points are, or our reactivity is, we become aware of those, and able to NOT react, and not enter into the lower frequencies of anger, fear, frustration, doubt, limitation - wherever we have humanly felt blocked before - that increasingly dissolves and melts away. We are bringing healing, compassion, wisdom, and awareness in." - Swami Nityananda
"Of course, if you are a human facing loss, there's an adjustment and it's really honest spiritually to say 'This is a big adjustment that I'm going through, and humanly I'm experiencing grief right now.' And it becomes much easier to move through it gracefully, to not push down the feelings, not deny them, but also to connect with that wholeness, if we're able to connect with that connectedness which goes so far beyond the physical." - Swami Nityananda
"Stay here. Every moment that you have to stay here in the body, stay here. Be fully here, and, when the time comes, do not fear. Absolutely do not fear." - Swami Nityananda

Thu, 29 Dec 2022 - 94 - 093 - I Know Great Men Stuck In Costumes Of Sadness
A solocast, for those guys who feel overwhelmingly anxious and depressed. Just set your armor down for a second and let me talk to you. I can only offer you my perspective, which is fueled by years of personal experience and learning about myself through books, lectures, videos, podcasts, conversations, determination, and action. I'm still on this 'mental health' path myself, but I know damn sure I'm not alone. Neither are you brother. You just have to start listening.
Mon, 12 Dec 2022 - 93 - 092 with Roman Merrell of 'RFTA Podcast' - A Complicated Historical Paradigm
A charismatic-chameleon, A wisdom-filled wizard, A starry-eyed Scorpio, it’s the great Roman Merrell! In this episode, I’m joined by an old friend to explore a bit of our past… recent and far far away. Roman has lived an interesting and adventurous life up to this point, and his perception of the world is a wonderful one to know. We catch up as Roman shares personal teachings and experiences from the last decade that have led him on a path of discovery and introspection about the universe. We speak astrology, the self, things we learned in our twenties, teens, and childhood, psychedelic experiences, being a Scorpio and an introvert, meta-perspective, voices in the head, alchemy, cognitive perception over the ages, being aware of awareness, various philosophies of the past, trauma, postcards to our Karmic family, lost lineage, retold histories, heightened intuition, fake crying, and much much more. I could've title this "Two Scorpio friends reconnect and talk about their place in the universe" but that didn't feel as catchy. If you love the wisdom and knowledge from Roman - check out his podcasts and art here: Rising From The Ashes Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/6fmYk1ZLuJSbCwVaPRZCns?si=9fece4a6688143d6 Moon Mysteries: https://open.spotify.com/show/7DLYhkZ1ZIsEiJNl2iTIOQ?si=a8671cec08654f36 GUSHMORR: https://open.spotify.com/artist/65iT1qNV8ArdVR3UL8zb8l?si=5VNX4p6QT4CjsLGXIZ5Mkw If you'd love to hear more convos between Roman and myself - let us know! comment, share, and follow - thanks for listening! Roman expands on the concept of: "Millionaires don't have Astrologers, billionaires do." "When I was a kid, I had this movie theatre in my head." "There were these nuns, they would walk in through my ear, they would go and sit down in the seats in my head, watching what I'm watching, commenting on what I'm seeing, and I couldn't of been more than nine or ten years old." "We are so in love with love, humans are love. Everything that we have down to our core, is a passion, it's a heartbeat, it's a feeling, and it's the vibration of unconditional love. When you separate all the layers, that's what it is. You get in tune with that by surrounding yourself with the things that make it easy for you to feel that love."

"Daniel Matalon is the founder of #IsThereEnough, a provocative new conversation about the intersection of survival economics and social justice. He is also the co-founder of Impact Launchpad, a UK-based venture studio for social impact incubation and development. Working from a book, a conversation, and a unique social research experiment that has taken him to 22 countries, Mr. Matalon is asserting that humanity’s biggest existential threat is not climate change, tribalism, or inequality but our inability to make agreement with each other at the level we require to address our challenges. His upcoming title, The First Agreement, is a historical and future-leaning look at economics, scarcity, and survival, that suggests that our drivers of incentive can be measurably built around human beings at the center of our economies, rather than the assets and resources we measure them by today." In this episode, Daniel and I discuss what he's adding new to The Conversation, Buckminster Fuller, our warlike conversation type, the most surprising response to the question of "isthereenough?", power, war, common identity, laws and agreement, suffering, the IDW, conversations on Clubhouse, economic values, global citizens, those who want to make a difference, personal transformation, the life that lives within conversation, the last treaty humanity will ever need to sign, a decentralized approach to self-government, collaboration, awareness, taking care of humanity as a way of taking care of the planet, building a world game not a world order, making the world work, hopefulness and much more. Thu, 03 Feb 2022 - 83 - 083 - a solocast - Making Sense Of My Depression & Anxiety pt. 1
This is a very free-form, completely unedited solo podcast about depression and anxiety. Nothing prepared, I hit record with the intention to discuss anxiety and depression in some sort of helpful manner. (I have no clue if I succeeded, but that is my aim). For people with depression or people with loved ones who have depression, take what helps and disregard what doesn't resonate. This is a tiny piece of the puzzle, these subjects are deeply more complicated than the things that came into my head while the camera was on this time. I am open to doing these in the future as Q and A's - email or message on Instagram questions or concepts around these things that you'd like me to try and stumble towards in these solo podcasts. be well. @jacobfromtheinternet

It's hard because sometimes it feels like "I don't have the resources" or " I don't have the knowledge of that" or "I'll never be able to read enough to know the business side of things" - whatever it is - you have everything within you to get what you want. So don't limit yourself because of what you THINK you aren't capable of. If you want something, go get it."
Tue, 23 Feb 2021 - 68 - Episode 068 with Abrielle Dunn - The Sense Making Sickness Series - Wait Why Are We LARPing
The Sense-Making Sickness Series is a Junkyard Love Podcast side-step towards creative conversation, collaboration, and problem-solving surrounding the events unfolding in many of our daily lived realities. The episodes in this series remain a part of the larger Junkyard Love Podcast while having a certain flair and spark of their own. These conversations hold no misconceptions of grandeur and though the subjects at hand are often very serious - I approach them without taking myself to be immensely serious, correct, full of wisdom, or as an arbiter of all the right answers. I merely seek to shine a light on different ways of perceiving information and understanding one another. With these talks; I hope to usher in internal epiphany within listeners, I hope to spark broader conversations of the sort, and I hope to unwind narratives within us that no longer serve our best interests. This chat takes place with Abrielle Dunn, whom had no indication that this conversation would be posted under "The SenseMaking Sickness Series" here on the podcast until nearing the end of the 3.5 hour talk. Abrielle and I often find ourselves writing and contemplating back and forth to one another surrounding these similar subjects - so the natural candor of these curious and metacognitive discussions are not unusual to our friendship or natural ways of speaking to one another. This conversation covers a bit of the madness of the western world, the deceit of "bad othering", delusions of truth through our media channels, conspiracy theories, false news narratives, emotional regulation, blindly living different realities, tribalism, mistaken authenticity, living the WWE reality, getting caught in kayfabe, political LARPing, the race to the bottom of the brain stem, societal trauma, cultural shadow, gratitude, being unknowingly lost in our minds, relating to others, bringing compassion to others, trump-ism, woke-ism, belief systems, projection, the downfalls of close-mindedness, the fluidity of life, general mental illness, our mistaken identities, addiction, the art of listening, the importance of accurate conversation, thinking differently than others, accidental victim mindsets, fast-moving technology and algorithmic changes of who we are and how we interact with one another, relaying and relating to one another, changing our narratives, false panic, the race to the bottom of the brain stem, reporters, truth, camera angles, companies and corporations, looking through different windows, echo chambers, and horse sized ducks. If you enjoyed the episode, consider leaving a review, a like, a comment or hitting subscribe. Fri, 12 Feb 2021 - 67 - Episode 067 with Intuitive Healer Jaycie Randall - A Path From The Past
Jaycie Randall is an intuitive empathic healer who works with women experiencing strain or pain around mental blockages, childhood trauma, sexual trauma, victim mentalities, triggers, holding onto past experiences longer than helpful, and finding their true Self within. Jaycie speaks elegantly and with compassion about all subjects related to healing and integrative shadow work. This episode brings up various views of things like healing, growth, trauma, therapy, victim mindsets, the Power of NOW, shifting perspectives with grace and dignity, and moving through changing perceptions. We speak on some of the transitional times in our personal lives, we talk about reframing life narratives, growing out of our stories, the pitfalls of creating "bad other" to feel more righteous, identifying with the lack and victim presets learned in younger years, being the 'mediator' of your best self, feminine energy, masculine energy, shadow work and inspection of the places within us that we deny with ego. Our talk reaches concepts like imposter syndrome, self-belief, accepting praise and compliments, feeling fake and downtrodden, upgrading to the 2.0 version of yourself, comparison to others, and comparison to your past self. Jaycie and I share some remedies and actionables for things like journaling, meditation, prayer, and positive affirmation - and we talk about 'cringing' when remembering past behaviors. We connect on experiences with altered states of consciousness, (emotionally and chemically induced) living as a modern spiritual being, the Meyers-Briggs personality test, we talk about being INFJ’s, we touch on co-dependency, being intuitive, being empathic, we speak about channeling, being clairvoyant, understanding, presence, compassion, experiences in therapy, and the current rebirth of the shaman archetype into our culture. I am grateful for Jaycie's willingness to come onto the podcast and share some of her personal stories and speak about her work in these fields. To have so many types of healers and wisdom bringers on this podcast platform is truly a blessing. Thank you for listening, I hope this helps. For more on this guest - checkout her website lookingwithin.squarespace (she does free consultation chats!) and follow her on instagram @jaycie.randall. Books mentioned: “The Power Of Now” by Eckhart Tolle “You Can Heal Your Life” by Louise Hay Notable quotes from the guest on this podcast: “The world is happening FOR me not TO me” “That was what kind of shifted my mindset to looking at my past from “ Oh my gosh poor me” to: “It doesn’t fucking matter, all I have is right here right now - and I create that moment.” “You’re able to shift. When you’re in victimhood you often don’t realize you’re stuck in the victim mentality until you have someone point out ‘yeah you have this going on but here’s the reality of the situation.” “Pain is energy but energy forms into your reality.” “We have huge social media platforms with high expectations, that most of us feel like we have to kind of ‘upkeep’ with - when in reality.. who gives a shit?” “That’s something I have to always hold onto - I know who I am, I know what I bring to the table, I know all the change and growth that’s really happened. As long as I keep continuously showing up for myself, that’s enough and we’re good to go, it doesn’t really matter what other people think.” “I think the behind the scenes: your ‘being’ your ‘soul’, your whole identity in that moment, is rejecting the new identity that you’re creating.” “You can be extremely intuitive, psychically smart, spiritually intelligent, and still be a human being who wants to do nice things for yourself like have nice clothes, have nice hair, nice stuff, all in the same swing.”

Mon, 01 Feb 2021 - 65 - Episode 065 with Josh Gebhardt - It's Open Mic Night For Being Yourself
Josh Gebhardt is a successful Director Of Sales at a large business and travel expense management company based in the Pacific Northwest. Since I've known him, Josh has exuded flair and confidence - and in this episode, I attempt to draw a deeper understanding on how he placed himself in the positions he is in, and how he built up such inspiring levels of authenticity, confidence, and action in the face of adversity. Mr. Gebhardt intertwines his work with purpose and fulfillment and sparks interior lights of self-belief in others by simply exuding his genuine self. Josh talks being one of the only people in the room without a college degree, creating a brotherhood environment amongst co-workers, pushing social limits, expanding comfort zones, removing barriers with action, and being confident in his sexuality. We talk being 'liked' and magnetic to the right types of people, balancing different aspects of our personalities, the influence of social media on our behaviors, attracting certain types of relationships and friends, chasing wrong connections, showing vulnerability, and the difficulty of "trying" to be authentic all the time. Josh questions me on some of my influences as an artist, and we talk about our past experiences with music, singing, festivals, twelve dollar beers, and dancing our faces off. I hope you find some value in mining the heart and mind of the wonderful Josh Gebhardt - as I know I sure did. If you enjoyed this episode - consider hitting like, following or sharing with a friend. Any interaction helps more people hear the podcast, which hopefully, in turn, helps individuals love themselves more deeply. Checkout Josh's feed on instagram @joshgeb and we'll see you next episode. Thanks for listening. A couple good quotes I grabbed while listening back: "I was always able to be 100% myself, My family always made me feel like I could do anything I wanted to do." "I had the chance to be myself without any baggage of who you think you are, or the way you grow up, or who you're around, or pressures of hurting the people around you by being your authentic self." "I would prep, I would give myself a pep talk on the way in the car - I'd be like 'Ok you're gonna go to the bar, you're going by yourself, you don't have a single friend, you don't know a single person in L.A. - you have to go and have the ability to start a conversation with someone face to face - and so I would do that, just go to the bar and approach people."

Fri, 20 Nov 2020 - 60 - Episode 060 - Solo with Jacob Rhines - Sober October - A Personal Mental Review
For the month of October 2020 I chose to quit Social Media, Alchohol, Weed, Masturbation and Caffeine. In exchange - I chose to commit to every day drinking 1 gallon of water, writing 1 page, performing 20 minutes of yoga, as well as run/cardio 5 days a week. This episode entails my thoughts along the way, some of the hardships, a few of the victories, and lots of the personal psychology along the way. I attempted to analyze my own thoughts and feelings around the challenge, and insert some tips, tricks, new thoughts, and encouragement to anyone who would like to give their own 30 day challenge a try. Find this episode over on youtube for the video version. Best of luck to you Self-Actualizers - You're much more than your vices and habits.
Fri, 06 Nov 2020 - 59 - Episode 059 - The Sense Making Sickness - with Spencer Hicks - Series Part 1
An important series introduction is presented in the form of a short audio essay that exists in the first ten minutes of this episode. I encourage you to listen for a better understanding of what to expect. In this coming series of episodes, Spencer and I will attempt to make sense of what is going on in our world to cause such division and confusion amongst neighbors and fellow humans. We will stumble and ramble our way to formulating the questions that need asking and the answers that present themselves. We will try to police our own bias and emotional states, our own judgments, our wrong assessments, and our own blind spots. As new problems emerge for the human condition - we must present and practice new ways of conversation and problem-solving. Neither of us claims to be fully right, to be the most educated, to know the most truths, nor to have the correct psychosomatic tools. But we embark on this multiple part series because it is difficult, important, and we just don’t see many trying to meet the confusions from this lens of perception. Rather than claim the ability to educate the listeners - we hope to usher in individual epiphany by way of exploring and widening our own thoughts. These conversations will undoubtedly be messy at first, but as we determine the correct definitions and jump from stepping stone to stepping stone - we hope the path shows itself and the journey creates sparks of wisdom for different types of listeners at different points of their lives along the way. We have no grandiose ideas of being special, omniscient, or even particularly wise on the subject of sense-making itself - but we choose to pick up our swords and proceed towards the battlefield nonetheless. If individual sovereignty formulates group coherence and strengthens our human ability to process information and make sense of moderns life's complexities - this is the way. In an effort to better understand the division and changing times we are faced with as humanity and civilization - following every episode, Spencer and I will assess what we did wrong, what went right, what could be explained better, what could be thought more in-depth about, how we can discuss what's important for the next episode, and how we can continuously adjust our conversation style and subjects to better explain our findings and ideas for the next conversation. Here we propose that there is a sense-making crisis, we discuss the meaning of truth, self-sovereignty, dogma, bias, thesis as a human, obtaining a why, meeting each other at the wrong playing fields, types of conversation, examples from the political climate and much more. This chat seemed to set a decent groundwork for where we can go next. The map will form itself and we are hopeful the territory will present soon after. These episodes (we hope) will become more formulated and precise as we progress. Enjoy your day and go out of your way to be nice to someone whos not like you. Cheers
Tue, 20 Oct 2020 - 58 - Episode 058 with Conner Anshutz - People Are Portals To Yourself
I've always held admiration for Conner's perspective on the world around him. Continuously making others laugh because it brings joy back to him, Conner Anshutz is intelligent, kind, a creative thinker, and a fantastic storyteller. In this episode of The Junkyard Love Podcast Conner and I kickback and let the conversation fill itself with fun ideas and stories around technology, thinking, human behavior, reality, people, animals, workin various jobs, and meeting various acquaintances. In the first half, we pour a couple of brews and chat about artificial intelligence, intrusive thoughts, wild theories of evolution, social implications of algorithms, society at large, animal experiments, altered states, depressive states, and traveling to different states. We go on to share stories from our past and how our perceptions change over time and through new opportunities with new people. We point out teachable moments along with some of the cool places life has taken us - and Conner shares views from a few of his previous jobs - like being a door to door salesmen of pest control products, workin the counter at a skateshop, selling weed at the weed store, fitting newlyweds for tuxedo rentals, grippin skateboards at the skateshop and gassin' up travelers at the gas station. Conner certainly has great perspective on exploring the human condition through other people's passion and he believes in experiencing their greatness right alongside them. He says 'yes' far more often than 'no' and he strives to bring laughter and lightheartedness to situations life hands him. He's just like you or me, a 'people' tryin to get by. You should always pursue the next thing. Never stop learning never stop growing." "I love seeing that energy, 100%. I hate dream breakers. They're just trash to me. If someone has a dream, no matter how ridiculous it is, pursue it. I'm all for it. No matter how ridiculous it is. Don't let anybody stop you from doing something you love or that you want to pursue as an individual" "Time can be relative. You can cherish the small moments. You don't have to have a full 3-day hangout just to connect with someone." "I'm always stoked to hear about anyone I ever met to be doing good in their life." "Don't brag about putting other people down, brag about building yourself up." "I want to share your happiness. I want to do something with you that makes YOU happy as an individual. This is something you're really passionate about, and you have drive for it, I want to dip my toes in it. See if it's somethin for me, and share it with you. It may not be for me, but it's the time spent together." "Any river can be rebridged. The bridge can be rebuilt. Things happen, we're human"
Sun, 11 Oct 2020 - 57 - Episode 057 with Soul Coach and Mindfulness Expert Anna Cantwell - A Teacher Of The Human Spirit
If you have a mind, a body, and a soul.. boy oh boy is this the episode for you. Packed with magnificent knowledge of our inner workings as human beings - this conversation with Miss Cantwell is hit after hit of internal freedom. By way of her own personal journey Anna shares valuable information on trauma, chronic pain, healing, spirituality, meditation, changing toxic habits, mental growth, curating optimism, yoga, psychology, neuroscience, cannabis, depression, psychedelics, synchronicities, self-awareness, self-actualization, mindfulness, teaching, learning, serving and tons more. A highly active mind from a young age, Anna shares her childhood stories of loving nature and wanting to break from the molds of other peoples' induced identities. Insatiously curious but caught under the pressure she self-assigned - Anna developed chronic pain, fear of making mistakes, and a desire to always "get it right". She suffered, like many, with the fear of being accepted, and later in life - she suffered sexual trauma and it's ensuing injustices. Healing from her past and its accompanying disassociation to the epic jam of Katy Perrys 'Roar', Anna now leads mindfulness courses, teaches meditation and yoga, helps women in her Soulshine Courses and Mindful Living Mentorships and shines brightly for a living. Her story she shares here is inspiring and packed full of fantastic firsthand wisdom towards new meditators, mindfulness practicers, and self-love seekers. We talk about using the breath and cannabis to reduce inflammation and regulate chronic stomach pain, using plant medicine to connect with the body and manage affliction, and changing our perspectives on "party drugs" and "the devils lettuce". How on (or off) earth does seeking the divinity help with the management of depression and anxiety? Anna clearly and cleanly explains this by simple and useful analogies of our brain's neural pathways and an explanation of our insane amount of daily thoughts as humans. (Of which are 90% the same as the day before, mind you.) She talks becoming worthy with your own permission, tending to your internal garden, separating your'self' from your environment, and shifting from survival mode. We talk about mindfulness off the cushion, choosing to choose your own beliefs, working with the body's natural cycles, and creating a reality that you are in love with. If you'd like to check out more on the sagacious Anna Cantwell, she teaches weekly live meditations online and offers multiple courses through her website and social media accounts. Her website is annacantwell.com and her Instagram is @iamannacantwell - where on the daily she shares inspiration, truth, wisdom, and love. If you enjoyed this episode of The Junkyard Love Podcast - please consider sharing with a friend, leaving a star rating or review, or hitting subscribe or follow in your chosen listening app. Keep on lovin' yo-self. Thu, 17 Sep 2020 - 54 - Episode 054 with Ian and Shaye of Camp ReEducation - You Don't Know What You Think You Already Know
At the Junkyard Love Podcast... we love challenging our beliefs, we love knowledge, we love friendship, and we love learning in unorthodox ways. 'Camp ReEducation' checks those boxes quickly and with style. So I reached out to see if they wanted to chat about their podcast experience thus far. The conversation was awesome. Camp ReEducation, ran by the charismatic team Ian and Shaye, is a podcast journey into the world they thought they knew. A place to challenge their own beliefs, biases, and preconceived ideas. These dudes essentially choose a subject to fully immerse in for two weeks to see if they can oppose, bend, re-define and re-teach themselves about what they figure they already know. They are quite literally trying to re-educate themselves, which comes across incredibly humbling and hilarious for the listeners. Their non-serious but honest approach to these subjects certainly makes for an enjoyable listening experience and their friendly banter keeps a smirk on the face of any listener whilst at camp. In this episode of The JYLP I ask 'em about their backgrounds, what they've learned so far, why they do what they do, how they stumbled into the podcast world, and how they became friends. Shaye and Ian ask themselves impossible questions like - "How do podcasts reflect the Zeitgeist of our age?" Can reality TV be art?" "Can Microdosing help you achieve transcendence and reach self-actualization?" and "What is beauty?" The three of us find a cadence and connection via our musical backgrounds and we talk about how their podcast journey has already changed and challenged their beliefs, how we can ALL approach re-learning and re-shaping our internal information databases, the basis of "truth" within each of us, language, differing philosophies, the beginner's mindset, and challenging our echo chambers. Camp ReEducation is available wherever you like to listen to podcasts. Give them a follow on social media and on here to browse through their growing camp catalog. Also - checkout Shayes band on Spotify - RetroLux. Enjoy the episode and don't forget to hit follow for new conversations weekly. A few notable quotes from these two fellas "Nothing is for everyone, anymore" "I think I feel more confident from this experience to try and believe something for a little while, with the understanding that I can be wrong with that belief and re-visit it later" "(The Podcast) has been great to help me approach my cognitive dissonance abstractly, to be able to see it as something I'm trying to dissect for an audience, as opposed to something that's fundamental to who I am as a person."
Tue, 15 Sep 2020 - 53 - Episode 053 with Matt Young and Nate Tanzman - How To Build Confidence And Create Your Own Luck
This is a powerful episode. We've got Nate back and he's accompanied by the Founder of Vancouver Elite Outreach - Matt Young. V.E.O is a non-profit in Vancouver Washington focused on creating opportunities for youth in the community. Through sports and mentorship, Matt Young and his crew at Vancouver Elite Outreach teach team-building, leadership, hard work, confidence, determination, self-worth - all through adversity and eye-to-eye authenticity. Nate is a motivator, influencer, videographer, stunt-rider and soon to be father - Matt is a dad, a coach, a husband, and teacher - together the three of us reach important edges of conversation and bring a unique lens and story to the discussion. We talk awakening to higher self, fighting the ugly within, selfishness, the poverty mentality, and blessings being taken by judgments. We touch on hip-hop and social media influence, marketing strategies against our best interest, digging for affirmations, and your problem becoming your purpose. "We believe in enhancing the individual to be the best version of themselves, and we believe in thinking differently. Better mind, better lifestyle." - Matt drops heat after heat explaining the backstory and values of V.E.O. and it takes us to great corners of our chat - where we discuss the ego, self-fulfillment, suicidal thoughts, becoming men, clinging to your narrative, re-writing your story, sub-conscious sabotage, psychological knots, and the victim mentality. Nate and Matt both boldly share very personal and life-altering learning experiences and we talk a bit on today's current messy social and confusing political climates. We cover negative self-talk, starting with "why", fastings from things that pull you, apologizing, and being slave to distractions. We talk about humility, always finding the solution, listening when life speaks, spending money on self-development, and the fact that personal growth isn't "sexy" in the mainstream. We talk God, mentorship, the power of forgiveness, focusing on yourself, acting in the grace that you need, the power of grit, inspiration by action, segregation, racism, protests, arguments, and empathy. The three of us try to make sense of the division happening in the world right now, we brainstorm some ways to make a real and actual difference and attempt to bring new ways of thinking more abstractly about the problems our country is faced with. We "give out the game" and talk undervaluing people's work, craft, and worth. We stretch out our thoughts on self, identifying weaknesses, fear making us sick, mastering identity, operating without fear and seeing fear for what it truly is... I really feel like we talked about great points that bring value and thought provocation to the outside world's conversation. For more on Nate, checkout our latter episodes and follow him on insta @nastynate_jr and Youtube @Nasty Nate. Matt is available through their website, https://www.vancouvereliteoutreach.org/ - on instagram @vancouvereliteoutreach, and on Youtube @#VEO Young. If you'd consider sharing or leaving a positive review, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks for listening! Few fire grabs from Matt and Nate during this convo: "You'll grow up to be that person you needed when you was younger." "One kid at a time." "His breakthrough became his income" "I'm just a baker, that found bread." "People fall into the victim mentality because there's nobody saying there's a way out" "Once you get rid of the idol, you'll show yourself." "When I was dealing with dyslexia, I never heard anybody say - 'You could be better'" "Bad motherfuckers do shit that they don't wanna do" "When there's nothing wrong with us, the system has nothing to sell us" "The cost of entry to your business, to your podcast, to your personal growth - is listening to people tell you that you're fuckin crazy."

Jay and I talk about manifestation, visualizations, higher selves, healing stones, being an energetic self in a physical body, meditation, being 'one', plants, using earths' natural resources for healing, walking barefoot, and drinkin copper-water. In this talk, we offer an open door of possibility for those in search of ways to find the present moment, for those falling through the doors of spirituality, and for those looking for tips and tricks to combat depression and anxiety. Food becomes thoughts - we speak on the importance of the digestion system and self tummy care, as well as the "ingestion" of mental junk food (social media, news, negative inner/outer talk) We hit on unstructured movement, showing kindness, setting boundaries, the effects of social media habits on our self-image, loving your body, and dancing through your soul. We talk about shifting in and out of friendships based on our own lives, about the importance of support in spirituality within partnerships, about twin flames, and sharing frequency through voice. I genuinely feel happier when she's around. I'll bet she has that effect on most people. I accurately predict the unveiling of aliens two weeks before it happened, we talk conspiracies, feeling like a burden, seeing through the facade, and the wonderful dance of being a human. Makaio's the undesignated group sage, he can sing his ass off after a little whiskey, and he has a poetry book he never tells anybody about. He's great energy and filled with introspective artistic thought that's uncorked through friendship level inquisition. Even this long-form conversation podcast is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to knowing one another, we are all ever-changing and evolving chameleons and the growth mindset assures we never stay the same when it's time to change. I'm grateful for this space to express ourselves and small slivers of our own stories, in hopes to make those with similar stories feel a deeper sense of belonging. Sun, 21 Jun 2020 - 45 - Episode 045 - Solo with Jacob Rhines - How To Take Care Of Yourself A Bit
A solocast! This morning I sat down with a few scribbles of random notes and talked through some ways to feel better and get control of our monkey minds. My intentions here are simply to help. I'm here to share some stuff I've learned that seems to help me. I'm certainly no psychiatrist, I'm nobodies boss, I'm miles from perfect myself and sometimes none of this stuff helps. But from my experience, constantly trying and failing feels better than accepting failure as an identity. I wish for all my listeners to feel clear, to feel wholesome and confident and vibrant. To feel in control of their emotions and actions and reactions. To know they can change and heal the parts of themselves that still bleed from time to time. I've seen glimpses of beauty I never knew existed before this stuff. Maybe it's not so new or profound or life-changing to some of ya, but to others, I've got to hope that it just might be. I share my experiences with stretching, environment, hygeine, screens, grounding, being weird, spending time alone, diet, inflammation, sleep, recovery, caffeine, porn, nofap, breathework, news, social media, habits, learning to learn, boundaries, values, distraction, content consumption, digital dementia, philosophy, being reactive, working out and more. As I tried to not dwell too far into subjects - if you have specific questions or would like expansion on any of my queries here - feel free to comment your Q's under this video over on The Junkyard Love youtube page. If you like this episode, please share with a friend, or even just screen record a clip or quote. Hope this helps. Take care of yourselves.

Wed, 13 May 2020 - 40 - Episode 040 with Brandon Cruz - Formulating Perspective From Behind The Lens, Cognitive Change With Intention, and Being A Creative Individual
(For the video of this chat, visit the "Junkyard Love" channel on youtube after May 14th) My buddy Brandon, a fellow creator, interviewed me about some of my thoughts as a DJ, thought provoker, and storyteller - With his help, I introduce a few concepts and psychosomatic tools that I am in the process of creating, understanding, and utilizing. We explore flow states, the truth of vibes, taking in information to formulate a hypothesis, and the mind of creatives. We talk about some of the vast differences and misunderstandings between creators and unaware demanders, we talk about identifying with our roles and careers and developing the skills of understanding. Brandon and I braid firsthand stories from our jobs as creators (DJing and Photography) into analysis about the meta situation and we explore the great tragedy of "unawareness of reaction at being told 'no'". I point at some differences between a DJ and a jukebox and the concept of being caught in the maze is introduced. We talk about weed consumption, learning new skills, inventing possibilities through creation and art, being vulnerable through creativity, and the art of allowing something to unfold from the muse. The Narrator of the story, the observer of the narrator, the maze runner, and the guide - I explore the concept of creating a cognitive "third" and Brandon helps me unpack my theory in story terms. I share personal parts of my journey through depression and healing, the idea of your best self, the voice of consciousness, and intuition. We talk about change and the egoic mind, dopamine traps of society, our current time in history and human evolution. Sun, 26 Apr 2020 - 37 - Episode 037 with Life Coach Rebecca Wyld of Wyld Wellness - Habit Change and Happiness Actualization
Rebecca Wyld is a Life Coach, Cosmetologist, outdoors advocate, motivator, health seeker, self-love practitioner, client-counselor and - story changer. This episode is a holy grail for anyone in search of a little life advice around habit change. Life Coaching - What is it? How did you get started and what do you do with it now? Who is it for? - Rebecca fills in all the blanks for me, and she shares how a small pain in the neck led to trails, inner healing, habit change, and her position towards life now. The philosophy at her company is pretty straight forward - Getting people back to the simple way of living. Here's a quote from Rebecca: "There are so many avenues to health (mental and physical) that people get paralysis by analysis and ultimately end up doing NOTHING. (No bueno!) - So my practice is about guiding people (women) to take empowered action by slowing down and building a solid foundation of a more primitive way of living. - Literally re-learning health. Eat the whole foods. drink the fucking water. intentionally embracing the silence for a few moments. Put down your phone. Put your feet in the grass. Heal yourself. Do the work. Walk before you run. Depression is real. Action is necessary." We share hiking stories and talk about bears, cougars, coyotes, and elephants - we discuss personal path obstacles, the importance of cosmetologists chats in the chair, when to be flexible and when to be rigid, people-pleasing and boundaries. I found we really dove into the weeds of self-actualization and habit change, with recommendations and mindset swaps up for offer. Holistic health, weight loss, self-love, breaking habit loops - Rebecca really offers introspective sparking perspective on all of these valuable and important human attainments. She believes in taking one step at a time, pushing through instant gratification with ACTION and repetition, not identifying with a story of pain and lack, and avoiding confirmation bias of our ill-served belief systems. There's concurrence between us that Inflammation is a total demon, writing is magic, discomfort is growth, and habits can be changed with awareness and persistence. We talk breaking family cycles, reframing interactions and boundaries with one another, energy vampires, creating ritualistic thresholds, mirror work, creating a 'ta'dah!' list, social anxiety, and the mindset of making better decisions. Rebecca Wyld loves to learn why people do what they do. She's observant, present, intelligent, and professional. Our interaction was enthralling and filled with valuable information. Greatly appreciative of people like Rebecca for what they do. To get ahold of Rebecca, or to find out more about Wyld Wellness - checkout the Instagram @Wyld_Wellness, Facebook @wyldandwell, or Wyldandwell.com (This episode was recorded at the end of February 2020) | Some quotes from our chat - | "Your beliefs are there because of your experiences and then those same experiences confirm your beliefs." "Why am I being a jerk to myself, is there another way?" "What if what you actually want is just a lil' bushwhack away?" "If it's your truth, own it!" "It took a long time for me to be able to look into the mirror and point out the things I loved instead of the things I hate." "Take me to a place where I feel small"

We find cadence talking about the trial and error of learning your craft on your own and putting in your hours to learn how to complete the task. Taya tells it like it is - You've got to WORK to get at your dreams and goals - The struggles of raising two kids and being a supermom are not enough to drain Taya of her work ethic and passion for this thing she has created. She later expands on her minor in psychology and her job working with at-risk youth, and how she and her husband Jake chatted about making the jump and quitting her job to pursue Clover+Tribe. We talk about taking on the new role of entrepreneurs to it's fullest extent, and improving things. Taya speaks on ways to not only work 'smarter not harder' - but she puts forth her aspirations to set more boundaries, get more sleep, slow down - and maybe even to work a little less. We talk about how she is planning to manage her new "office" and store and tells us how she got the name "Clover+Tribe". We talk "replacing the lenses of competition with inspiration" and we emphasize - every single person you meet knows something you don't. We clarify again that we don't play with no mom-guilt: self-imposed or externally felt! We go into the humbling experience of raising children and of course, we enjoy some stories catching up as friends and we give the "what's next" for Clover+Tribe. Taya has handled being a young mom in such a rockstar way - she is an inspiring mother and hardworking business owner who will inevitably do wonderful things for her community and any other community that crosses with hers. As a grateful friend to her family for many years - it is quite wonderful to not only see her family grow but to see her grow as a leader and inspiring person herself. She is a believer in constant self-improvement and it will only compound her success over the years. Be on the lookout for more from Clover+Tribe and Mrs. Sanders!
Mon, 27 Jan 2020 - 21 - Episode 021 with 'rosetan' the band
Rosetan is a guitar trio whom I work with closely and enjoy life with often. This group consists of Jake Carrol, Jake Wilson, and Erik Nordin. Flexing their small town sounds the last few months, this group has been making their rounds to different shapes and sizes of venues - and bringing with them an enthralling soundscape. With a boy's attitude, a teenager's anger, and a man's craftsmanship - Rosetans music reaches into your chest, asks "who's doing the breathing here?" and starts pumping your damn heart for you. We open the podcast with a fan favorite of theirs - "ii" (known to some as "baseball") and then I and the boys begin our trek through the rosetan journey thus far. We touch on how things got started and we cover backgrounds of the members, each with drastically different paths to here. We talk about the music community and working with more than just the core members to build something more pristine. We chat about the importance and difference in mentors and teachers, the boys give intro guitar players some tips, we talk about beginner musicians and artists - and we expand in-depth on our growing views of the community as we become older and wiser men. Being a 20 something artist or musician is frustratingly beautiful. We help each other talk through various devices, spread some ideas towards new musicians, and then we touch on some of our own music interests at the moment. We chat about fears and insecurities through musicianship, being in a band and community, and the 4 of us find easy words to express our appreciation for one another as musicians and friends. We take turns dropping loads of song recommendations and delve deeper into the mind of the musician to round things out. Being with this group so often has pushed my boundaries as an artist, engineer, and musician and I couldn't possibly be more grateful. Look out for more songs from these 3 outliers in the coming year, and support them on Bandcamp or at your local brewery. Cheers!
Fri, 17 Jan 2020 - 20 - Episode 020 with Megan Elam
My friendship with Megan Elam is one I cherish closely. Our adventures as pals expand to more depths year by year, and our conversations are light and full of dance and laughter. Megan gives me the low-down on her job and career situation from past to present, and where it will take her next. We speak on her being a speech pathologist who has been through the rungs of college and nursing school, then she tells about her change of scenery and the big move to portland. Meg shares how her mentor came into her life while simply working at Starbucks - and how it led to becoming a teacher, paraeducator, and 'tough as nails' team member. Building with her work-team at Family House Academy brought Megan great wins and she shares them happily. We talk about the differences in public schools and private schools such as FHA. We talk about our trials and tribulations through many Spartan Races, and we complain about burpees a bit. (hashtags finishers) Megan tells us all about her trip to Ghana Africa to teach at a school for kids with disabilities, we reflect back with gratitude on her relationship with a mentor from ages 21-24 and she expresses her enjoyment of working alongside children vs. adults. Megan and I share our personal experiences with the Wholoe30 Diet and we chat for a long while about eating habits and diets per individual. We talk about saying no and implementing change, and I give my view on health measurements. Meggy's open-hearted demeanor, willingness to learn, drive, humor, joyful spirit, and contagious smile have always brought happiness to my life. I am happy to know her.
Fri, 10 Jan 2020 - 19 - Episode 019 with Kendall Johns of Dead Crown
Kendall Johns, the leadman of the band Dead Crown, is full of gratitude wisdom and work ethic. His honest and no-bullshit approach to life brings an instantly dope and down to earth comfort to our hangout at Junkyard Love. Kendall learns like many other mayhem types, through brute force. Here he speaks about throwing himself into the water and failing out loud. I ask how he churns up the soul with his writing process and he tells me about his controlled untethering to get there, and how he must bring out the werewolf to mine for lyrics in the caverns of his being with vodka sodas as bait. He tells me tons about the business side of running a touring metal band, we speak about his accidental viral meme and his better understanding of things now from it. He tells us the nuts and bolts he learns about his bandmates in an intimate and very-often van ride. Kendall shares the importance of conflict resolution skills and emotional intelligence when it comes to bandmates, and he gives them each their breakdown later in the episode. Touring since the age of 15 with former band 'We Rise The Tides' to now has been a constant hardworking hustle, and we bridge the gap from there to now with his life now with band Dead Crown. We talk about the differences in our crowds in my world vs. his - and we speak on difficulties surrounding selling tickets and handling the merch, paying out the band members, taking care of life back home, and handling that bread. We talk about the mindset in musicians' future thinking with 401k's and retirement and he shares how they feel about fans receiving their merch. We dive a bit into the "instantly famous" musicians and their mental health going forward, and how being any sort of famous in this society is unhealthy. We talk about Carol and her concerns with her grandson attending a metal show and we loop back into our personal origins story and how we first crossed paths. Kendall tells me about his own young hard-working entrepreneurship skills, where he got his beginnings and how he learned graphic design, clothing design, computers, video editing, crowd control and frontmanism. Fighting the Instagram algorithm, depression and how these platforms have input into our insecurities are touched on, and he opens up about dealing with mania and having 'dark weeks at a time', along with his personal view on depression/mental health medication. He shares his vulnerabilities behind not having consistency, and how he turns his pains into superpowers - for better or worse. He talks signing a record deal with the company he dreamt about signing with as a teen, we talk about how different you need to sometimes be at different venues, what to expect in different venues, the absolute beauty or non-beauty of venues, and what a wise teacher told him once: "The difference between a boy and a man is a man knows the right time and place for everything." We talk about their newest album release 'Crucify Me' with the songs twenty-four and comin up' feat rapper Jake Hill. Metalcore band Dead Crown is epic and member Kendall Johns is a total homie and great dude. Checkout their tunes for your more savage workout playlists. Stay healthy and work hard my podcasting friends.

Sun, 29 Dec 2019 - 17 - Episode 017 with Spencer Hicks
(3) Spencer Hicks is an intellectual friend of mine of who's conversations hold great value to my contemplations and thinking. In this one, we hit on life being a choose your own adventure, choose your pains, choose your un-comforts journey. We begin to expose a Metta conversation surrounding the importance of being able to have conversations outside of narrow beliefs. The importance of having free conversations can't be understated, these are conversations we feel afraid to have out loud - and often we are thrown into arguments and 'sides' instead of realizing we need neither side to have the connection and understanding being ultimately searched for. Spencer and I both feel the important holy grail that is the human conversation - is being attacked and misused. This area of our talks will be returned to often. I share my plans to "learn to vote out loud" for the upcoming election. We try to talk about politics without... falling into the maze of politics. We make sure you've noticed our world's people each hold differing opinions of the same words too often, and certain words hit parts of you that do not hit others. Spencer and I talk on philosophy/psychology and philosophical points - Spencer shares his views on the Frankfurt school of thinking, Absurdism, Marksicm, Nihilism, realizations and world views. We express our love for Wonder and never having an answer, and we talk more on the weirdo stuff around social media that nobody seems to have mentioned yet. We share the joy of not knowing and questioning beliefs, we touch on being the alpha male and unspoken conversations that send us down strange rabbit holes. I complain about my chair a few times, and then Spencer teaches me a lot-o-bit about Dungeons and Dragons. We talk about victimhood and complaining, Getting beat down by life and some healing remedies for those sorts of things. The back and forth conversations between Spencer and I are evolving and will continue to advance as a third.
Sat, 28 Dec 2019 - 16 - Episode 016 with Shayley and Beth Morris
(not safe for kids) The first Junkyard Love Christmas Special! I roped in the 'Queen of Christmas' herself to explain away the meaning and feeling of Holiday Spirit! Beth shares her Christmas view journey from childhood to grandma - and gives us some hints on how to always keep that holiday spirit alive! Shayley tells me about her experience growing up believing in Santa Claus - and we all three touch on "the fib" of santa we tell the kids. We land on the roof of subjects like 'Wonder for children, making eye contact with other humans, decorating for the holidays, helping the homeless, the art of gift giving, and the appreciation of family. X-mas has been filled with joy and fun for me, and I had a wonderful Christmas Eve chatting about the meaning of Christmas over a few drinks, laughs and lil bbq weenies. Cheers and happy holidays from The Junkyard Love Family. Please drive extra safely!
Wed, 25 Dec 2019 - 15 - Episode 015 with Jordanne Crane
I find myself feeling massively heavy with gratitude to share this conversation. A great storyteller braves ridicule and pain in the present to re-visit a severe moment in their past to become the veil between error and learning for the future well-being of others. Jordanne showed up to my studio as her typical self - a fantastic communicator, witty conversationalist, coherent listener, brave storyteller and an absolute joy to be around. She shines a bright light on her mistakes and shares her truths with whatever rawness comes with them. In this episode - Jordanne tells us about her search for rock bottom and what she found while there. We talk about her instant side effects to the birth control implant, her Penicillin allergy, suffering through C-Diff 4 times, a failed fecal transplant, rehabilitation and Motel 6. She tells us about the drinking, the in-and-out of hospital and fights with sobriety and relapse, sex trafficking and more Motel 6. Jordanne bravely opens up about rape, the meaning attached to sex, an unfortunate disconnect from the body, suicidal thoughts, visits to the ICU and mental health facilities. She shares her experience with homelessness, alcohol withdrawals, religion, healing, and light. I am grateful Jordanne is here to share her survivor story, and I am absolutely honored she was comfortable enough to share it with me and our listeners. Jordanne is a beautiful and courageous type of warrior. I'm happy to see her clean, sober and so full of life. Enjoy the episode and take care of yourself, listener - you are not your thoughts!
Wed, 25 Dec 2019 - 14 - Episode 014 with Jake Rhines & Shayley Morris
What is Junkyard Love? Who is Jacob Rhines? What is this podcast about? What is my message? I have lived quite a peculiar life thus far. The guests on this podcast are of the hundreds and hundreds of teachers and friends I have found along the way. In this episode, with the help of my MVP occasional co-host Shay, I share a glance into the story of my childhood, my teenage years, and the severe depression that haunted the first half of my 20's. The journey that has led me here to become the man I am today has been, like many others, riddled with hardship. But along that same path, life has constantly been showing me beauty and light. This world is mean but still, I find the strength to roar. Though it's immensely difficult to summarize "your life story" and not feel you've left out everything - I try to answer the questions to the best of my ability and summarize my reasonings, discoveries and past experiences as they appear relevant. I hope this episode can serve as sturdy roots to be planted beneath the ground as a foundation for future guests and conversations to feel comfortable being vulnerable and transparent on the Junkyard Love Podcast. love yourself, hate nothing, learn everything.
Mon, 23 Dec 2019 - 13 - Episode 013 with Nona Southard
Nona Southard stops by to pour some of her overflowing bravery and courage into any new parents' cups. She speaks on the changes she experienced stepping into motherhood, like having to give up hobbies, quit medications, lose friends, fear judgments, and re-connect with her body and interests. We make it clear mom-shaming is officially "uncool". Nona wants new mothers to do their research on postpartum depression, which she offers some personal experience and advice with. Many women deal with drastic changes to their interests and personality after such changes but feel afraid to speak up about it or face it. Nona laying out her experience from such an honest place gives some strength to any listener who needs a bit extra today. We dive into Nona's newly switching interests and bailing on her social media avatar. She mentions her mom's fairly new smoothie business, (Raw Juice Bar), we talk about woodworking and passion amidst our jobs, and Nona offers a few light tips on weapons. I am grateful Nona was so eager to leave masks at the door and let other parents and women feel less alone through her vulnerability. She's awesome!
Wed, 18 Dec 2019 - 12 - Episode 012 with Bob Kendall
In this episode, Bob Kendall stops by the studio and spills his entrepreneurial growth mindset onto the table between us. We pick up some great pieces to inspect together. Bob and I first met when I was a young salesman at a popular Lifestyle and Action sports store in our local mall. We were a sales team force to be reckoned with and always held a fluidity of present moment conversations. Bob tells us his desperately dope attempts of getting the dream job, landing it, leaving it, stopping to smell some art, opening his own business, and of course the plethora of adventures in between and after. We touch on the future of B & C shopping, small town communities, the purpose of malls and shopping. We touch on young customer service workers and lack of training, Amazon, Zumiez, style trends and we both offer some advice for anyone in the customer service industry. A master of making each person feel special. Bob has a salesmen's mind and a lion's heart. Bob and I have stood in the store and talked for hours and hours many many times. I feel blessed that my life has granted me the opportunity to rebirth those talks with my old friend and co-worker in the form of this podcast. I assure you that - If you ever stumble into the chance to meet Bob Kendall, you'll walk away with a free smile and much lighter shoulders.

Fri, 13 Dec 2019 - 10 - Episode 010 with Brian 'Dj Toasty' Andrews and Kelly 'K3lls' St. Onge
I have worked in the music and sound industry for nearly a decade now. My DJ endeavors are plentiful and have offered me many lessons that I will carry forward as I level up more in this life. The mind of a DJ takes discipline. Constantly assessing and planning your next 5 moves is not a skill that shuts off for the Disc Jockey when the lights come on at 2am. We briefly touched the iceberg on these two great humans. There's much more they each will offer in the coming months from their intricate and beautiful minds. In this episode, we get a small glance into the different backgrounds each of us bring to the tables and where those backgrounds point us now as older wiser men. We share stories of festivals, clubs and silly business. We try to bridge the gap between the requester and the dj - as well as contemplate the future of the disc jockey and his place in clubs. There are many differences between DJ's and their skills, and many more with more complicated aliases with names like "producer" or "writer", we try to lay that out - as well as the differences between terms like "bootleg", "remix", and "edit". The boys and I do our best to scrape up some new lenses and frames for the listeners to take a peek through. P.S. relax your scowl, go drink some water and grab some fresh air real quick.
Fri, 13 Dec 2019 - 9 - Episode 009 with Shaden 'Hvshi' Nugent
Hvshi takes a break from the mayhem and leans back into the junkyard love vibe with me. He lays out his last few years of success, fame, contracts, touring, turmoil and reset. We learn about the man behind the artistic layers and the boy who got him there. He speaks on his recent healing from letting the beast protect him from his pain. We touch a bit on being a fashionable male in a small town, the music writing process, his upcoming EP and short film, changing perspectives and alias masks, and seeing his butterfly of this stage in life. Shaden has always stood out to me for his storytelling abilities. As he gets better and understands his own genius, I am grateful he is choosing to share his words with the world, and that I can aide him in any way on that path. There's much more on the horizon for creator and artist Shaden Nugent.
Wed, 11 Dec 2019 - 8 - Episode 008 with Nate 'NastyNate' Tanzman
Nate Tanzman is an absolute savage of mind, body, and machine. On a constant trek to conquer and understand the man he was the day before, Nate finds time to sit down with me to speak on pushing himself through pitfall, being a personal health enthusiast, the stunt riding culture, cultivating the correct beast, and his future with a megaphone in hand. Nate weaves us through his past thought process with introspect and detail in this beautiful man to man talk. Nate's growth and motivational mindset ripples outwards as he improves more every day and his outward "out-loud" approach to getting his sh** together is an ember that is sure to spark many fires of young hungry wolves. He's massively eager to push his message to the world and motivate the masses, our future paths will surely intersect. #itstime
