Gene Yu is Co-Founder and CEO of Blackpanda, Asia's premier digital forensics and cyber security incident response firm. He is a computer science honor graduate from West Point, previously served in the U.S. Army Special Forces, and is the author of three books. John Kiriakou is an American author, journalist and former intelligence officer. Kiriakou is a columnist with Reader Supported News and co-host of Political Misfits on Sputnik Radio. He was jailed for exposing the interrogation techniques of the U.S. government. He was an analyst and case officer for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), senior investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and a consultant for ABC News. He was the first U.S. government official to confirm in December 2007 that waterboarding was used to interrogate al-Qaeda prisoners, which he described as torture. Kiriakou is a founding member of the organization Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity. In 2012, Kiriakou became the only CIA officer to be convicted for exposing the CIA's enhanced interrogation program, having passed classified information to a reporter. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

Today we talk with Doug Livermore about all things Ukraine war and Russian sabotage across the globe.
Doug Livermore is the Director of Special Operations, Irregular Warfare, Special Programs, and Sensitive Activities for the Deputy Under Secretary of the Navy. Additionally, he is a Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard currently serving as the Deputy Commander of Special Operations Detachment – X. Previously, Doug served as a sensitive activities advisor to both the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict and the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security. Multiple international affairs and security studies journals have distributed Doug’s works, including many publications in War on the Rocks, Small Wars Journal, and the Military Times. Doug is the National Director for External Communications for the Special Forces Association and is also the Director of Communications with West Point’s Irregular Warfare Initiative. Additionally, he is on the Board of Directors for both No One Left Behind and the Special Operations Association of America where he has been instrumental in the ongoing evacuation and resettlement of Afghan interpreters and their families. Doug earned his undergraduate degree in Military History at West Point, his graduate degree in International Security Affairs from Georgetown University, and exceled in the Army Command and General Staff Officer Course.

Bryan served for 20 years as a U.S. Army officer, retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel in 2018. He was a 3-year starter and captain of the baseball team at the U.S. Military Academy, earning Patriot League All-Decade team in the process. Bryan was commissioned as an aviation officer and flew the AH-64D Apache Longbow while serving in a variety of command and staff positions in the first half of his career, including combat deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.  The Army sent Bryan to Stanford University, where he earned a Ph.D. in political science in just three years, before serving as an Academy Professor and the Director of the Combating Terrorism Center from 2012-2018. In this capacity, Bryan briefed the nation’s most senior leaders about the Center’s counterterrorism research, and in 2016 he was invited to testify in front of Congress about the lessons learned from U.S. counterterrorism since 2001. Bryan’s research focused on terrorist group leadership, and his book Targeting Top Terrorists was published by Columbia University Press in 2019.

Today we're joined by Mick Mulroy and Marc Polymeropoulos, both former Senior CIA Officers to talk about the Israeli pager attack on over 3000 Hezbollah operatives and what it could mean going forward.
Michael “Mick” Patrick  Mulroy is the former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East. He is a retired CIA Paramilitary Operations Officer in the Special Activities Center and a retired United States Marine. He is currently the President of Fogbow (a company that enables international humanitarian efforts), a Senior Fellow for the Middle East Institute, an ABC News National Security Analyst, a Co-founder of the Lobo Institute,  the Co-president of End Child Soldiering, and on the Board of Advisors for Plato’s Academy Centre and the Aurelius Foundation.
Marc Polymeropoulos retired from the Senior Intelligence Service ranks in 2019 after serving for 26 years in the Intelligence Community in operational field and leadership assignments. He is an expert in counterterrorism, covert action, and human intelligence collection. Marc is one of IC's most highly decorated field officers and has honed a unique leadership style based on decision making under pressure, inclusivity, camaraderie, and competition. His book "Clarity in Crisis:  Leadership Lessons from the CIA" was published in June 2021 by Harper Collins.  Marc's goal is to pass on this knowledge to the sports and business world who can benefit from his unique experiences serving his country in the hot spots of the world.

Books about combat are compelling. There's an inherent thirst for the stories about brave men, completing impossible tasks under the worst of conditions. Cry Havoc tells the story of how the Army Rangers emerged from the shadow of the Vietnam War, and morphed themselves into what World War II hero and former commander of US forces in Vietnam General Creighton W. Abrams called, "the finest light infantry in the world." In October of 1983, those men would conduct the first mass combat parachute drop since Vietnam and do so under intense fire from Cuban and Grenadian forces.
Once the Rangers hit the ground, the action didn't stop. Over three days, they cleared the enemy from commanding positions overlooking the airfield, rescued over 400 US medical students, and conducted an air assault on an enemy training facility, an action that was considered a 'suicide mission'. And yet they accomplished all of their missions in the best tradition of their Ranger forefathers.

Born poor, he battled on the streets of the mining towns near Johannesburg; from orphanage to reformatory to warder on Pretoria Central’s ‘Death Row’. After a brush with the law, he went north to join the fight for Rhodesia, and served with distinction in the Grey Scouts, the RLI and then the SAS. Daniel Corbett III served as an elite Navy SEAL operator, part of SEAL Teams 5, 6, and 17. He’s now an ex-military operator for hire. He joined the navy shortly after graduating high school in 2002 and was deployed to Iraq in the summer of 2005 with SEAL Team 5. He joined SEAL Team 6 in 2007, deploying to various locations around the world. In 2010, Daniel returned to the West Coast and began instructing at the Naval Special Warfare Basic Training Command (NSWBTC). Daniel ended his active-duty career after two years with NSWBTC and quickly fell into the world of private military contracting. Daniel joined the active reserves in 2014 and maintained his active reserve status until 2019. In 2017, Daniel made international news when he was thrown in jail in Belgrade, Serbia, for eighteen months after traveling there as a private contractor to track a terrorist financier. Daniel still monitors international news and continues to entertain phone calls and meetings with those who need unique solutions to unique problems.

United States Army on 24 March 1993 and served his first four years with Company B, 3 rd Battalion,
75 th Ranger Regiment (Airborne) at Fort Benning, Georgia. After completing the Special Forces
Qualification Course in 1999, he was assigned to Company B, 1 st Battalion, 10 th Special Forces Group
(Airborne) at Panzer Kaserne, Germany.
From 1999 through 2004, Bill served in several positions on Special Forces Operational Detachments
Alpha (SFODA) 024 and 036, 1 st BN, 10 th SFG (A) culminating as a Senior Medical Sergeant and Cell
Leader. In May 2004, he joined Company D, 2 nd BN, 1 st Special Warfare Training Group (A) as a
Senior Instructor/Writer for the Special Forces Advanced Reconnaissance Target Analysis and
Exploitation Techniques Course. Bill returned to Germany to serve in the Commander’s In-extremis
Force, CO C, 1 st BN 10 th SFG (A) for SFODA 0136. In July 2011 Bill became the Company
Operations Sergeant for the newly formed Crisis Response Force, CO C, 2 nd BN, 10 th SFG(A) at Fort
Carson, Colorado. He next served as the Group Operations Sergeant until selected as 1SG,
Headquarters Company where he served from November 2012 to May 2014.
In 2015 Bill became the Company Sergeant Major for Company A, 2 nd BN, 10 th SFG (A) for two years.
He then served as the NSOCC-A/SOJTF-A CJ3 SGM from November 2017 to September 2018. In
January 2019, Bill was appointed 2 nd BN, 7 th SFG (A) Command Sergeant Major. In 2020 Bill was
appointed as the Group Command Sergeant Major for 2 nd Special Warfare Training Group (A). In
January 2024 Bill retired after 30 years of service.
Bill participated in Operations JOINT GUARDIAN in Kosovo, JOINT FORGE and BOLERO in Bosnia,
IRAQI FREEDOM and NEW DAWN in Iraq, ENDURING FREEDOM – TRANS SAHARA, ODYSSEY
DAWN, AND OBSERVENT COMPASS in Africa, and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL and RESOLUTE
SUPPORT in Afghanistan. He has deployed numerous times with EUCOM, CENTCOM, AFRICOM,
SOUTHCOM, and various unnamed operations.

Robert Young Pelton is a Canadian-American author, journalist, and documentary film director. Pelton's work usually consists of conflict reporting and interviews with military and political figures in war zones. Pelton has been present at conflicts such as the Battle of Qala-i-Jangi in Afghanistan, the Battle of Grozny (1999–2000) in Chechnya, the rebel siege to take Monrovia in Liberia, and the siege on Villa Somalia in Mogadishu, and has been with ground forces in about 40 other conflicts. He spent time with the Taliban and the Northern Alliance pre-9/11, the CIA during the hunt for Osama bin Laden and also with both insurgents and Blackwater security contractors during the war in Iraq. Pelton's regularly published survival and political guide The World's Most Dangerous Places, provides practical and survival information for people who work and travel in high-risk zones, and is a New York Times bestseller.[8] He was also the host of the Discovery Travel Channel series entitled Robert Young Pelton's The World's Most Dangerous Places from 1998 to 2003. Jack is a 32-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency (“CIA”). Mr. Devine served as both Acting Director and Associate Director of CIA’s operations outside the United States from 1993-1995, where he had supervisory authority over thousands of CIA employees involved in sensitive missions throughout the world. In addition, he served as Chief of the Latin American Division from 1992-1993 and was the principal manager of the CIA’s sensitive projects in Latin America.
Between 1990 and 1992, Mr. Devine headed the CIA’s Counternarcotics Center, which was responsible for coordinating and building close cooperation between all major U.S. and foreign law enforcement agencies in tracking worldwide narcotics and crime organizations. From 1985-1987, Mr. Devine headed the CIA’s Afghan Task Force, which successfully countered Soviet aggression in the region. In 1987, he was awarded the CIA’s Meritorious Officer Award for this accomplishment.
Mr. Devine’s international experience with the U.S. government included postings to Latin America and Europe. During his more than 30 years with the CIA, Mr. Devine was involved in organizing, planning and executing countless sensitive projects in virtually all areas of intelligence, including analysis, operations, technology and management.

Alex Plitsas is a nonresident senior fellow with the Middle East Programs’ N7 Initiative, a partnership between the Atlantic Council and Jeffrey M. Talpins Foundation working to strengthen and deepen Arab-Israeli normalization. Additionally, he is currently a principal and industry director for aerospace and defense and high-tech electronics at Providence Consulting Group where he oversees and leads industry-focused teams who conduct business and digital-transformation projects for enterprise resource-planning software systems. Previously, Plitsas served as the director for strategic operations for a high-tech electronics company servicing the aerospace and defense industry and as a chief of staff at the world’s largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates. He completed his federal service as the chief of sensitive activities for special operations and combating terrorism in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, where he oversaw policy and operations for compartmented plans and programs. He was also detailed from the Pentagon to the Intelligence Community, representing the secretary of defense as a senior member of the White House Hostage Policy Review Team. Plitsas also worked as a strategic planner for the undersecretary of defense for intelligence, where he was deployed to Afghanistan. He also deployed twice to Iraq, once in uniform leading a psychological operations team during “the surge” and fighting in the Battle of Sadr City, and a second time as a civilian working in the Special Programs Office at United State Forces–Iraq Headquarters. Plitsas has also worked as a program manager and contractor for several tier-1 aerospace and defense companies, such as Northrop Grumman, in between stints in the federal government and military service.

Dante Paradiso is the current Director of the Office of East African Affairs and a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. He most recently served as a Senior Advisor to the Special Envoy for Afghanistan Reconciliation, and immediately before that as Director for Peace and Reconciliation at US Embassy Kabul. In previous tours he has been Charge d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission at US Embassy Libreville, Economic and Political Counselor at US Consulate Hong Kong, Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, and Brigade Senior Civilian Representative with Task Force Mountain Warrior and Task Force Bastogne in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. Dante has also had diplomatic assignments in Beijing, Ethiopia, Liberia, Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, and, as an intern political officer, Tanzania. Before joining the Foreign Service, Dante practiced bank regulatory law with Goodwin LLP in Boston. Dante is from New York. He received a BA from Yale University and a JD from UCLA School of Law. He is married to US diplomat Darragh Paradiso.

Eric Vélez-Villar was named assistant director of the Office of Private Sector in October 2021. The Office of Private Sector, under the FBI Intelligence Branch, strengthens partnerships between the FBI and the private sector. Mr. Vélez-Villar, a retired special agent, had most recently worked in the private sector. Mr. Vélez-Villar started his FBI career as a computer scientist in the San Juan Field Office in Puerto Rico. He became a special agent in 1992 and worked organized crime and drug cases in the McAllen Resident Agency of the San Antonio Field Office in Texas. He transferred to the San Juan office in 1997 and worked public corruption cases and violent crime. In 2000, Mr. Vélez-Villar was promoted to supervisory special agent in the Drug Section of the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters. He was detailed to the Drug Enforcement Administration for two years. In 2002, he transferred to the Santa Ana Resident Agency of the Los Angeles Field Office, where he worked organized crime cases before he was reassigned to supervise the Orange County Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). Mr. Vélez-Villar was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the Los Angeles counterterrorism program in 2004, overseeing three regional JTTFs. Mr. Vélez-Villar was promoted to deputy director of the Terrorist Screening Center in 2006, then returned to Los Angeles as the special agent in charge of the office’s Intelligence Division in 2007. In 2009, he was named deputy assistant director in the Directorate of Intelligence at FBI Headquarters, in charge of the Intelligence Operations Branch. In 2012, he was promoted to assistant director of the Directorate of Intelligence and was elevated to executive assistant director of the Intelligence Branch in 2014. He retired in 2016 and served as a vice president for security at the Walt Disney Company. He also established a security consulting firm. Mr. Vélez-Villar earned a bachelor’s degree from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico and an MBA from the University of Southern California.

Born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Rick joined the U.S. Navy at age 17. He attended Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL (BUD/S) training Class 109 in Coronado, CA. Rick was assigned to SEAL Team TWO in Little Creek, VA in 1980. He served at SEAL Team TWO from 1980 until 1985, specializing in winter warfare, combat diving, and sniping until he was selected for duty at SEAL Team SIX in 1985.
In 1993, Rick received the Silver Star Medal for Valor during the Battle of Mogadishu (Black Hawk Down). He served at ST-6 from 1985 through October of 2012. During his time at ST-6, Rick acted as sniper, explosives expert, lead training Chief, sniper team leader, and Deputy Operations Officer.
Rick continues to serve his country and fellow SEALs by helping to educate others about this unique special operations force and further the Frogman heritage as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum. Rick is married to Barbara Kaiser and has two children, Emily and Eric. Rick and Barbara currently reside in Vero Beach,

Melvyn had a 24-year military career, in which he served with distinction. Born and bred in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, Melvyn left school at 16 years old and joined the army. In 1991, he led his patrol into combat in the first Gulf war and completed three tours of duty in Northern Ireland, in charge of a platoon of 30 men. Melvyn joined the elite special forces in 1994. I joined the US Navy in 1964.  After training I served at Naval Air Station, Litchfield Park, just outside of Phoenix, Arizona.  After a year there I was sent to the USS Arlington AGMR2 for pre commissioning of the ship.  The time went on so I served on Yard Tug boat's in Norfolk, Virginia, then I served for a couple of month's on the USS Denebola AF56 (Refrigeration ship)  When I returned to Norfolk I decided to put in for Vietnam and was sent to DaNang, Vietnam.  After 22 month's I was discharged and then joined the US Army, Special Forces.  I went through Basic infantry, then advanced infantry (graduated as the honor student) then I went to jump school in Ft. Benning, Georgia. Then up to Ft. Bragg for Special Forces training.  I asked to go back to Vietnam and did.  I was sent to A-502, 5th SFGp Abn, out of NaTrang, Vietnam.  I was the NCOIC of a CIDG camp 554, Sui Dou.  Then after after 6 month's or so, the camp closed down so I went to SOA-CCC (MACV-SOG)  I was 1-1 of Rt. Delaware for one mission then became the 1-0 (team leader)  I ran 7 mission's (4 linear recon and 3 brightlight missions) in Laos or Cambodia.  After my 7th mission I was asked if I wanted to go to SOA-B53 and teach Special Op's mission's.  I said ok and went to B-53 for an additional 6 month's.  Then I was discharged and came home and joined the 12th SFGpAbn (reserves).  In 1978 I did a cross service transfer to the 129th ARRS, USAF Pararescue. I left the Army as an E-8 and dropped to E-6 in the USAF.  After completing  Pararescue school, I was a PJ.  I was a rescue, parachuting paramedic for the first 3 launches of the Space Shuttle (STS-1, 2 and 3) also for the Mt. St. Helens Volcano eruption.  President Carter and Senator Ted Kennedy.  Also did 2 parachute rescue mission's for ship's at sea and a few hoist mission's.  After an injury parachuting, I was medically discharged from the service.  I had 20 year in service so I got out and went to college to become a Doctor (Radiologist)  I did this for 20 years and now I hunt, sell and collect meteorite's.

Matt Brazil is a Senior Analyst at BluePath Labs and a Senior Fellow at The Jamestown Foundation. He pursued Chinese studies as an undergraduate at UC Berkeley, as an Army officer with tours in Korea and NSA, and as a graduate student at Harvard in their Regional Studies East Asia program. After a stint as the China specialist for the Commerce Department’s Office of Export Enforcement, he was assigned as a Commercial Officer with the US Embassy, Beijing, where he both promoted and controlled US high technology exports to China. Afterward, Matt spent 20 years as a security professional, performing investigations in China for a chip manufacturer, and leading the development of a security organization in China for an American specialty chemicals firm. His PhD dissertation at the University of Sydney (2013) described the place in the Chinese Communist Party of their intelligence organs. That and further research led to his contribution as the coauthor of Chinese Communist Espionage, An Intelligence Primer (2019). Matt is also the author of the China chapter in the Handbook of Asian Intelligence Cultures (2022). His next book concerns Beijing’s contemporary worldwide espionage and influence offensive.

Phil Campion was given up for adoption at birth. He ended up with violent adoptive parents and was sent to a series of children's homes. He left school at 16 and with no qualifications to his name, he saw himself as fit for one thing only - the life of a soldier.
