Derek has explained, a divine exchange occurred at the Cross. Jesus took our rejection and provided our acceptance. Today, discover another critical stage in receiving acceptance…one that helps eliminate loneliness and a sense of being unfulfilled.

Derek begins this study of the fear of the Lord by looking at fear that is not from God so we can recognize the difference. Natural fear, demonic fear, religious fear, and the fear of man; these he breaks down to show us what marks them out.

Today Derek begins looking at what the fear of the Lord is, using a picture from the natural that illustrates the spiritual realm. He then explains how this fear is worked out: by having no other gods before the Lord, giving God total preeminence, and an absolutely unique place in our lives.

In this study today we see Jesus in Isaiah’s prophecy—Isaiah 11:1–3—with the seven Spirits of God resting on Him, and His delighting in the spirit of the fear of the Lord. Derek emphasizes that if Jesus needed the fear of the Lord, and the Holy Spirit imparted it to Him, how much more do we stand in need?

Derek looks at the early church in the book of Acts. As the church walked in the fear of the Lord, they had peace, were edified, and they multiplied. Fear of the Lord also produces submission to one another, and is important to our conduct here on earth.

The fear of the Lord is the key that unlocks wisdom, understanding, and so much more. Derek touches on Scriptures from Job, Psalms, and Proverbs that very clearly state these important truths. The only channel to receive the wisdom of God is the fear of the Lord. It comes into your spirit and enables you to begin to see God’s purposes and counsel.

Derek begins this week looking at various passages in Psalms concerning the fear of the Lord—focusing on its benefits and blessings. We receive direction on how to develop this fear and what it can mean in our lives if we’re willing to be taught. Finally, we get a picture of the man who fears the Lord and all the blessings that are his.

Today Derek looks into Proverbs where wisdom calls out to be heard, also revealing the consequences of rejecting knowledge and the fear of the Lord. There is no room for compromise with evil; we must cultivate this fear to gain the Lord’s provision of long life as well as quality of life.

Today’s study continues in Proverbs looking at benefits of living in the fear of the Lord. Benefits include: strong confidence, a place of refuge, the fountain of life, avoidance of the snares of death—these are some of the breathtaking promises found in this book.

Derek gives a sketch of a man whose heart is perfect or fully committed to the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water that sends out its roots by the stream. That tree doesn’t fear when heat comes, and its leaves are always green. There are no worries in a year of drought and it never fails to bear fruit. In the fear of the Lord, our roots go down to the source of life, which is God Himself.

Derek finishes this study with steps leading to attaining the fear of the Lord. The first is to make a decision to seek it, and turn yourself over to the Holy Spirit, your Teacher. God has put men in the body of Christ to teach and rule—let them into your life. Let the Word have first place in you. Study and be a doer of the Word of God.

Civil War. World War. Nuclear War. These are familiar terms. But what about a conflict that involves the whole universe? We’re familiar with such ideas, but only through science fiction stories. However, a universal war rages right now between two opposing kingdoms. It involves you and me, and the prince of darkness! Hear more today!

Satan’s kingdom is highly organized. Today we find out how it operates. Why should we care? “To be forewarned is to be forearmed.” Arm yourself with these facts about the kingdom of Satan.

Looking at the book of Daniel today, Derek leads us to discover how God’s kingdom operates. Initiated by Daniel’s fasting and prayer, angels came forth to battle in the heavenlies. It’s a teaching you won’t want to miss!

To win in any battle, a person must be prepared to defend himself as well as to go on the offensive and attack. But the Bible tells us that “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal.” What does that mean? And how can we fight the war?

Satan’s tactics fail when we are intimately acquainted with the work of the Cross. Because Christ has already defeated Satan, and we are “in Christ,” we get to share Christ’s triumph over Satan’s kingdom.” Derek shows us how it can be that we win—always!

In order to face “the evil day,” we must be prepared. Looking at the attire of the Roman legionnaire, Derek reveals step one, by which we are to tuck up the loose garment, so its flaps and folds won’t cause us to stumble. Are you wearing the girdle of truth?

In Ephesians 6, Paul lists our armor as Christians. The breastplate of righteousness protects the most vital organ of the body: the heart. With it in place, protect is afforded to our heart and our very life.

Today, we are going to learn about our shoes which are necessary to go and preach the gospel and the mighty shield of faith which protects us from the fiery darts of the enemy. To bring the message home, Derek shares from his personal experiences on the battlefield.

Depressed? Hopeless? Filled with self-pity? Learn how to overcome these problems. We need to understand that the mind is a battlefield for spiritual warfare. Derek explains the nature of “hope” and how an optimistic attitude always sees the best, does not give way to depression and doubt.

The sword of the Spirit is our only offensive weapon. With it, we can drive the devil off. We must not draw back for fear, but move forward, bringing people out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. Hear how Jesus made Satan “back off” and how you can as well!

We have an obligation to take the offensive, to move out and actively attack Satan’s kingdom. It is a fact of history that the battle cannot be won strictly on the defensive. The gates of hell cannot prevail against the church that is on the offensive. Scripture promises this and Derek explains.

Prayer is the most powerful spiritual weapon we possess. It has no limitation. It is a long-range weapon that can sneak in and take out the enemy! As a missile, it locks on to a target and can be launched from great distances away. There is no limitation in time or distance.

Naturally, praise follows on the heels of prayer. But praise is far more than an expression of gratitude…it is a weapon that will silence the enemy. Praise reveals and calls forth God’s awesomeness against the enemies of God’s people.

Preaching the Word stops the enemy cold. When the apostle Paul preached the Word without reservation or compromise for two years, He reached all of Asia; extraordinary miracles occurred; the supernatural became the natural; evil spirits were driven out. It can happen the same way today—the Word changes not!

What is the difference between preaching and testimony? Testimony is telling others what God has done in your life. It is personal. And it is Jesus’ strategy for reaching the world. Simple and effective! Listen today and hear more about this weapon.

Today Derek reveals the biblical truths behind this principle and we discover what we need to give to God. We also learn the definitions of Thanksgiving, prayer, and worship and find the similarities these actions have with the colors of the rainbow.

If you are in the furnace of affliction right now, hold on! Testing is not a bad thing, though it can be uncomfortable. When you’re being tested, you’re also being purified. In the process God‘s character is forged in your life.

Perhaps you've never understood that God has a plan for your life. Or you may have an inner awareness that God has a claim on your life and a task for you to fulfill but you don't know how to discover what it is. So you feel frustrated and unfulfilled. The Bible is so practical, so down-to-earth. So, when we're looking to find out what God's plan for our life is, where does the application start? It starts with our body. God asks that we present this body of ours to Him as a living sacrifice.

In finding God's plan for your life, the first step is being born again in Christ. The second step is presenting your body to God as a living sacrifice. Then, when those steps are taken, God begins to renew your mind-to change the whole way you think. His will is unfolded in three successive phases: it is good, then acceptable, and finally perfect.

If we wish to find God's plan for our lives, we eventually realize that, as individuals, we are incomplete. We must become a committed member in the Body of Christ in order to function in accordance with God's purpose. Joined with other members, we can work together to fulfill God's plan.

Once we come together with other believers in committed relationship, functioning in our place in the body, we see that we must be suitably equipped to be effective. Spiritual gifts are given by God to be our equipment and they follow logically as part of our calling.

Listen today to get acquainted with the nature and origins of two persons—the old self and the new self. We are all born with a crooked, rebellious nature, which is the “old self.” Not only is the old self rebellious, it is also corrupt, spiritually, morally and physically. But, as born-again believers we are to lay aside the “old self” and put on the “new self” that has been created in the likeness of God—in righteousness and holiness.

Execution is the solution!

Yesterday Derek taught on identifying the old and new self, today he will teach on the need to learn God’s solution for the problem of the old self. Listen as Derek shares three things which are not God’s solution for the old nature: self, law, and religion. Those methods cannot change the rebellious and corrupt nature of the old self. God’s remedy is execution of the old nature—the execution that took place when Jesus died on the cross for us.

The very nature of Jesus; within us.

Today, we explored how the new self is the product of God’s Word, the truth. In the new self, God’s purpose and His image are imparted to us. The nature of the new self can be described by the words, righteousness and holiness. The new self is born from the seed of the Word of God, which is divine, eternal, incorruptible, and so our nature produced from that seed also is divine, eternal, and incorruptible. It’s the very nature of Jesus Himself.

Realize the fulfillment of God’s purposes in you life.

The new person within us must be brought to maturity through a process of cultivation. As we spend time in God’s Word, we behold His glory and we are changed by His truth. Thereafter we must systematically and progressively deny the demands of the old self and yield instead to the influence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit wants to enlighten our eyes to see what God has for us in the new man.

Are you willing to embrace God’s purposes?

God’s purposes for His people have never changed. He’s given us the power and ability to do just what He has created us to do through the incorruptible seed of His Word and the power of His Holy Spirit. The questions we must answer are; Are we willing to lay aside the old man, and put on the new man? Are we willing to yield our lives in obedience to God and His Word? Are we willing to take up our place in the Body of Christ and fulfill the great commission and make disciples of all nations?
