On today’s Salaam Mother’s day special show, we’ll hosting @mumsforpalestine , a compassionate collective based in Naarm comprising of mothers, women, and caregivers hailing from many backgrounds, including diverse political and religious beliefs, heritage, and life experiences. The group is tirelessly advocating for the end of occupation and siege of Palestine, alongside a fervent call for a permanent ceasefire. Throughout the show we’ll be taking songs requests for mother’s day. So send us your request!

Salaam Aleppo! On this show Nathalie Farah fills in for Marroushti with a special episode on  Qudud Halabiya,  which is a type of traditional Syrian music from Aleppo, with themes on love longing and spirituality. On the show Nathalie invites Camille (Tarabeat), George and Waseem for a live performance followed with a chat on the history of  Qudud Halabiya.

Salaam Mohamed!On today’s show we had @hoodsvstheworld filling in for @marroushti with a special guest @mhadi.84 from @sawtalsudan.au . Mohamed talked to us about what is happening in Sudan, from revolution to war, and how the Palestinian and Sudanese struggle is connected. He also spoke to us about a new advocacy group for Sudan in Melbourne @sawtalsudan.au and their upcoming plans and initiatives. Mohamed is a Sudanese student at unimelb who has been involved with community organizing, palestenian advocacy through unimelb for palestine and anti-racism initiatives within the university space. Salaam Inez For today’s show, we welcome the sweet sweet Inez (she/they), who's a co-host for 3CR Thursday Breakfast and an incredible DJ/selector. Inez will talk about the current Farmers' Protest in India that has been ongoing since 13th Feb, and in solidarity, will play some of her favourite Punjabi songs.  Protestors are asking for minimum prices for crops in response to reforms that have handed India's agriculture market to corporations in the Global North. On today’s show we have @fotzroyking who’s been working as a youth/ community engagement worker in Fitzroy Atherton Garden for the past six years and a member of Yarra resident voice group for the last three years. As the situation in Palestine gets worse by the day, we are all in deep state of grief and anger at how our government is behaving. The complicity of our government in endorsing genocide, the ethnic cleansing and displacement of colonised/occupied communities is outrageous and is not restricted to foreign affairs, it is continuously happening here in so called Australia to our indigenous population and marginalised communities. Most recently Labour government has announced it will demolish 44 public housing towers and replace them with private and ‘social’ housing that will wipe out public housing and green open space in the estates. This will benefit big developper$ and push diverse communities out of Melbourne. We will touch on this topic this afternoon and invite you to join the rally against this decision on the 23rd of Dec behind 140 Brunswick St tower near the basketball court. In between we will be playing some tunes which are played and enjoyed by residents at Fitzroy Atherton Garden.

We now ask you to pay attention for this gifted Dj and listen to her new mix for Salaam Radio Show!  Kieffairy is a multimedia artist Dj and producer focused on mixing Dubstep, Dub, Jungle, DnB, Hardstyle, Bollywood, Hip Hop, Drill and Grime. Her fixation with sound and art are inherently from her roots and upbringing, where she grew up playing live instruments and was commercial trained in music theory. On this show, Salaam feautures Waha EP by @shameerwahed. ‘Waha’ is a 5-track EP that sparks imagination and takes you on a journey to a futuristic desert, through intriguing sonic landscapes. As an example one of the tracks on the album called ‘Altraiq’, depict a culminating relentless storm of zurna, darbukka, and drums.Marroushti had the pleasure of interviewing Shameer via instagram chat. They talk about Shameers' inspiration, the EP, and the idea behind Waha. Tell me about yourself. What got you into music?Well, since I was a child, I have had a keen musical interest thanks to my older brother, he definitely made me interested in music in a more intense way. Then, over the years I discovered electronic music and started to make my own mixes. Were you born in the Canary Island?I was born and raised in the Canary Islands, specifically in Tenerife. I have Arab ancestry since my grandfather was Moroccan. The Canary Islands are certainly my home, it's weird to explain, but it's a feeling. The islands are in Spain but at the same time not, we are descended from the Bereberes, and we are next to Africa, we have always had external influences that have made the island's culture rich. I have grown up in a humble family, in a working-class neighbourhood, but I have always been in direct contact with nature and that is inspiring for me. What kind of music did you grow up listening to?I grew up listening to a lot of different music. I grew up in the 90s and I was first interested in rock and metal at 12 or 13 years old—I listened to grunge bands, a little hip-hop too. One day I discovered Nine Inch Nails and that changed me, I started to become more interested in electronic music and especially in the way it was made.At the end of the 90s and early 2000s, British DJs often visited the tourist areas of Tenerife to play in the clubs. That made the island begin to hear sounds like hardcore techno or UK garage. All the people of my generation grew up listening to those sounds in clubs and raves—this, in an indirect way, made me delve deeper into the sounds coming from UK.  What music inspires you? There is a lot of good music that is inspiring me right now. I really like what Kaval does with his drums, and I like Ploy, Guedra Guedra, Toumba, and DJ Plead. From Spain, I recommend Ikram Bouloum who is very cool.  Tell us about your new EP! The genre of your music is hard to classify but I feel it's more on the experimental side of things? When I listen to it, it feels like I am at a play (theatre), there's a bit of anticipation, eeriness, and playfulness to it. How do you describe your music?Wow, I love to see how you perceive it—it is difficult for me to describe my own music. This project was born out of a search for my identity and my roots. It has been amazing to delve into the project and learn more about this side of me. I feel like I have discovered so much about myself thanks to the process of creating this EP. When I begin to be interested in knowing my family history, and the cultural and sound legacy of the Arab countries, I begin to experiment with those sounds.Experimental club music was the starting point, and this resulted in the search to bring classical Arabic melodies and instrumentations to the tracks of contemporary dance—mixing them with the incisive and tribal rhythms of grime or hard drum, and with a special focus on the bass frequencies common in UK electronic music. As a result of combination, Waha was born—This EP is my starting point from which I can continue advancing and discovering new things. What does Waha mean?Oasis. I see the concept of Waha as a journey through a futuristic desert soundscape, that ultimately leads to the discovery of an Oasis—a metaphor for the journey to my roots.

On the anniversery of the Beirut Port explosion, Salaam Radio Show hosts Sara Saleh, an awards winning poet, activist and human's right advocate with Lebanese, Egyptian and Palestinian background. On the show Marroushti discusses with Sara her article on Overland Magazine titled "The day home did not change : the politics of nostalgia" followed by a mix of songs for Lebanon showcasing Lebanese  rappers, poets, jazz musicians, and electronic music producers.

Salaam DJ Plead! On this show Marroushti and Luqman are excited to be interviewing Jarred Beeler (aka DJ Plead) one of Australia’s fastest rising electronic music producer. Being half Lebanese Beeler draws from his Middle Eastern heritage in producing his unique and percussive heavy tracks. Similar to his Djiing style, in his production Beeler blends Lebanese pop and wedding music sounds with contemporary RnB, Club, Footwork, and other dance styles. In the last couple of years we have seen @djplead take to the airwaves of some of our favorite broadcasting platforms such as Rinse, Boiler Room, NTS radio and play all over Europe.For the rest of the show Marroushti plays a mix she made of tracks by DJ Plead and some of her favorite producers from middle eastern and/or australian background!

On this show Marroushti speaks to Yara Alkurd a Melbourne based, Palestinian singer-songwriter, sound engineer and co-founder of @femjams a monthly all female identifying and non-binary jam session and dance space, held at @colour___club.Yara has a fiery drive for human rights, feminism and equality which stems from strong Palestinian roots and the character shaping experience of migrating to Australia as a young teenager.Yara’s smooth sound is a melting pot of neo soul, indie R&B and jazz with heavy influence from Amy winehouse, Lianne La Havas and Emily King. Yara made her debut on 2020’s International Women’s Day with a bold track, “Man Hater”, shortly followed by a blooming music video created by an empowering all female crew.Following the interview Marroushti plays a selection of songs by hip hop, RnB, neosoul female artists from the SWANA region such as Felukah, Ilham, Koast, Dena Anuk$a, Sevdaliza and many more.

An incredible event took place in Naarm/Melbourne on the 26th of June 2021, Blak and Palestinian poets, artists and activists came together for a special evening of poetry, performances and discussions. On the show Marroushti meets Axel from Ko Shin Moon and plays a selection of tracks from all of their releases since 2017.Ko Shin Moon is a Parisian band which mixes traditional eastern instruments with synths and electronic machines ‘blurring the line between time and space’. They are also known for their collaborative musical projects with musicians and producers from all over the SWANA region as well as India and East Asia.

DJ Ali is a Lebanese Melbourne/Naarm based artist and member of @al.gharib_, a key group behind the flourishing hard techno scene in Melbourne. DJ Ali’s thing is to mix and record live music using just electronic machine and synths for the perfect workflow.Al Gharib have recently released a compilation album ‘Palestine’ from which all proceeds will be distributed to @olivekids foundation. Marroushti is hosting three amazing Palestinian advocates and campaigners, Jeanine, Tala and Loor to speak up regarding the atrocious crimes being committed by the Israeli government against the Palestinians following the forced home evacuations in Sheikh Jarrah.
