Jiu-Jitsu meets Theoretical Psychology. Brothers with blue belts. One, thirty-something and dad-to-be, wants to win the World Master Jiu-Jitsu Championship. The other, philosopher and doctor-to-be, wants to put in motion a cognitive science based behaviour change concept he has been developing called Ecobehavioural Design (EBD). Can they help each other and the listener to bring the best out of themselves whilst on the journey...? Contact @ecobehaviouraldesigns on Instagram

It's not rocket surgery. The boys talk about breathing, Rickson, and mouth taping, before getting into a proper reflection on Ecobehavioural Design (EBD). Analogies and their importance get a look in, as does not being able to talk to crowds if you are from the sticks. The bones of the poddy has discussion around how people change, the tendency towards sameness, and the different phases of EBD. We will burn that bridge when we get to it, but for the moment much love for your support. No singalong by Win & Regine unfortunately to see the season out, but check out "Michael - The Burns" if you want something to tap your foot to.

Breathe the pressure, come play my game I'll test ya. The boys start off on the wrong foot with musical "memories", but get back on the right one with some reflection on the Jits baseline and progress that has been made during the year. Bit of a revisit on habit and its association with identity, before getting into a plan for stack ranking some Jiu-Jitsu principles to try and know what to practice first going forward. Exhale, exhale, exhale...

Rona serves up a three-piece and a soda to any world championship aspirations. With realisation and acceptance kicking in - the boys use the opportunity to talk about the momentum of habits, flows, and homeorhesis. The mission statement gets a revisit, and plans are voiced for season (series?) two. Zen gets an apology, and there is plenty of talk about "game" and "bread". No pop-in by Jorge unfortunately.
Thu, 30 Jul 2020 - 41min - 17 - #17 - Halfarse
How do I play soccer like Lionel Messi? The boys might not have the answer, but a question by a listener leads them to talk about the habituation of exploratory frames in group settings. Some prett-ay prett-ay prett-ay interesting ideas thrown in the mix, including half-rules, ritual anti-structure, tarot cards, and half-coaching. No drop-in by Larry David but. Mark's "Bringing forth within: enhabiting at the intersection between enaction and ecological psychology" paper mentioned in the podcast can be found here:- https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2020.01348/abstract

If I can't cross my legs, can I ever be enlightened? The boys finally get into some questions, and the answers take them through language learning, alignment, breathing and getting "conversational" in Jiu-Jitsu or anything else you might want to advance your learning in. No zazen in this one but plenty of good feet finding and blue belt vibes.
Thu, 11 Jun 2020 - 53min - 15 - #15 - Choke
If I don't do Jiu-Jitsu any more, am I still allowed to say "OSS"? The boys talk about comfort clothes, awkwardness, owning middleweight, hitting the mats for life, some thoughts for Jits post-Rona, and learning across contexts. Identification with, change and habits get a little rehash. Van Wilder swang by in his uncle's shirt to say hello too.

If I make a joke in a room when no-one is around to laugh - can I still be funny? The boys explore the concept of being the product of the five people you most associate with, and how that looks in times of isolation. Jiu Jitsu innovation, power dynamics, relationship resonance, attunement, conversational stability and finding making all get some time too. Stay safe.

Why would you ignore 50% of the human body? The boys chat about online instructionals, grappling solo, systems adaptability and resilience, one persons response to some of the goings-on in the world at the moment, keeping keystones intact, and Ecobehavioural Design (EBD) as it relates to Jits progression and working remotely. Gonna hit up Don Johnaher for some tips for the Shadowgrappling World Championships if the Masters is a no-go.

Why is your phone in the fridge? The boys talk about made-up words like rememory and embodulisation, as well as dad-life, competition weights and a quick revisit to aphantasia. They also start to think about ideas for maximizing time off the mats. Few segways in this one, or is it segues?

What time is it there? The purpose of this poddy is to document all things Ecobehavioural Design (EBD) related in one spot for easy reference. The boys touch on all the different EBD concepts they have explored up to now to hone things in a bit, together with some talk on conversational stability, attunement and some examples of keystones in action. Dan Aykroyd & John Belushi were a no-show.

Dance if you wanna dance. Baby has arrived. The boys converse on sing songs, identity change, making humans, inhabiting, dry January, rewards, reciprocal narrowing, the dip, 21-day and instant habit formation, portability, game ecology and aphantasia. Plenty of shite talk in this one but we can't help it, we're all part of the masterplan...

Lock, stock and own the suit. The boys talk tweaks to the Ecobehavioural Design amidst conversation on outsider techniques, two-day rule fragility, the "Growing a Yogi" side project, behavioural distillation, identification, being curious around resistance, a little nod to stoicism, and leaving logistics until later. Zoomy McGlitcherson popped his head in a bit more often than usual this week.
Fri, 31 Jan 2020 - 1h 07min - 8 - #8 - Murmuration
Alright, alright, alright. The boys talk about frames, upward spirals, wrecking balls, accountability, new changes in training and some online resources they have found beneficial in supplementing their Jiu-Jitsu development. Fortunately, they manage to keep their shirts on for the whole show.

The best there is, the best there was, and the best there never will be. The boys chat about the book "Range" by David Epstein which offers an alternative to the 10,000-hour rule, some game planning and a bit of an update on how the Ecobehavioural Design (EBD) is working so far. Special mention to Keith "Malik" Mayberry and Lamar "Hula" Mahone for inspiring us to document our brotherly love in audio form with this one.

"2020 is the year". Repeat it three times and it might be...in some respect. The boys discuss old man competing, new year rituals, seed habits, sense-making frames, and affirmations. Shout outs to "everyone" for helping make this one happen.
Thu, 02 Jan 2020 - 1h 07min - 5 - #5 - Design
If it doesn't feel like it's not worth doing, then it's not worth doing...or is it. The boys talk about habit, revisit some key performance indicators taking a different tact, then roll out the Ecobehavioural Design. Hat tip to Aristotle for sowing the seeds of this episode way back when.
Wed, 18 Dec 2019 - 57min - 4 - #4 - Simplexity
Paying it forward with this episode (or not?). The boys finish off the Ecobehavioural Design intake session, as well as talking about key performance indicators, cornerstones, constraints, game planning and how not to multitask. Poor morning hygiene also gets a mention.

Oh, hi Mark. The boys talk about trophic and behavioural cascades, keystones, constraints and how they relate to the Ecobehavioural Design concept. A plan is developing on how to approach the World Master Jiu-Jitsu Championship coupled with a flowchart to boot. No guest appearance by Tommy Wiseau unfortunately.

We'll give you plenty of praise!
