It is my opinion, and I’m sure Joe and Bob agree, that the moment we had children, everything else dropped away - everything we previously thought was so critical and important is now fighting for a very distant second place - so how do we know if we’re doing by them? This episode’s question comes word-for-word from a recent tweet from Peter Diamondis. Peter Diamondis is the Chairmen of the Space X Foundation and generally accepted super forward thinker (along with guys like Elon Musk and Ray Kurzweil). Peter’s tweet points back to his blog, (http://www.diamandis.com/blog/designer-babies). In his blog entry, he points to the absolutely incredible advances in genetics that are here today and some that are only a heartbeat away - things like reproduction without sex, genetically modifying a fetus in the womb, and freezing eggs and sperm in donors’ twenties for use when they’re in their forties. But for all the incredible science that this represents, it comes with huge ethical questions - in some cases, they are the ultimate example of, “just because you can do something, does that mean that you should?”, and where do you draw the line? As you’ll hear, we wrestle with this question - we wonder if there is a slippery slope to things that are absolutely a good idea, to those that are way out of line and doomed to come back and bite us. What if you came across a magic lamp and were granted three wishes? What would you wish for? Would you wish for a million dollars? (maybe a little selfish?) Would you wish to cure cancer? Well if you do, then what about all of the other diseases (there are a lot more of them out there than 3 wishes can cover). What would you wish for?

Do we control our lives, or does life control us? Work or school is insanely busy, our kids gets sick, traffic is bad so we run late, and all the while, our email inboxes grow and grow. If we could just get ahead of it all, then everything might seem OK - we could finally find some peace….so how can we do it?

What makes a true friend? How does it happen, and what does it mean? How can we be better friends to the people in our own lives?

Mondays are the worst, but Fridays are awesome. Saturday is even better. Why? What is so different about Monday that it becomes almost a universally dreaded day. In fact, Monday is so horrible, that for many of us, we start hating it while it is still Sunday - we call it the Sunday Blues. Now, your mind is probably conjuring up very real and obvious answers to this obvious question, but the thing is ..we’re not OK with it, so we’re going to dive in and figure out how to make it stop. We want to love Mondays just as much as any other day, regardless of our jobs.

How we can keep connected with our teenage children during a period when they may not want to be connected anymore?

In this life, nothing ventured is nothing gained, right? If you’re going to really live a life, then you have to ante-up - you have to put something at stake, so what’s something that everyone should risk?

Is it better to live a life full of awareness (awareness of ourselves, the world around us and how we fit) or to just do our thing...enjoy what we enjoy...do what we want to do. Awareness might seem to be the right path, but with awareness comes responsibility - I may have to do something with it once I have it.

What is talent? Where does it come from? Is hard work and dedication enough, or is talent innate - you got it or you don't? And if we can zero in on where talent comes from, can we foster it in the people around us?... can we foster it in our children? (And here is where it can get sticky...) Should we foster it in our kids, even if they hate the thing that we’ve discovered them to be talented in?

How do you say “I’m sorry?” How do you apologize? So often, we run into situations where we have to own up to something hurtful that we’ve done to someone else, and the words “I’m sorry” just don’t cut it. Going the other way, there are times when we feel wronged, and making it right will take a lot more than just some lame “sorry”. So what should you say? How can you make it right?

Can a stupid internet joke point to something much worse about our society? Are we if already witnessing signs that the best days of our culture are behind us?

What does it mean to be yourself...to be real...to be authentic. Ever since we’re little, we’re told that a foolproof strategy for feeling good about ourselves in just about any situation is to “just be yourself”, but what does that mean? It seems simple, but is it?

Where does the road rage driver or the rude guy at the store come from? Who are they, and what role do we play when we're the ones who are being jerks?

If given more of whatever we think we’d need (money, time, anything at all) would we change how we live, or would we keep on doing exactly what we’re doing.

Are we different people at work than we are at home? When we power-up our company laptops or scan our badges to enter the office, do we leave a part of ourselves on the outside? Should we leave a part of ourselves on the outside? The corporate world uses an all-too-familiar term of “work/life balance”, so….what’s the right balance?

Is there ever a time - big or small, important or not, when it is ok to look someone straight in the eye and lie to them? What if the truth is harmful? A special note about this episode if you’re listening to it with kids around...we don’t swear (or if we do, we edit it out), but (SPOILER ALERT) we talk about a major holiday tradition that is, essentially, steeped in a big fat rosy cheeked jolly lie. So...you know...maybe get headphones.

How do you answer the question, “What do you do?” Or better yet...how should you answer it? What's your elevator speech about yourself? How do you define yourself in a way that feels right and accurate?

Does our ability to love have limits, and what does it mean to love unconditionally? In other words, are there some people who just plain don’t deserve to be loved?

If the most important things in our lives disappear, do we also disappear?

How do you interact with someone who you fundamentally disagree with. How do you move forward, especially when you have to (maybe you work with them or live with them), when what you think is polar opposite to what they think.

Are today's communications tools (like social media) killing our ability to connect with each other in a real way?
