After he's "taken for a ride," the girl singer who was with him developes amnesia. "Harry The Hack" finds her...and the murder victim too.

Followed by Ceiling Unlimited starring Orson Welles, originally broadcast November 30, 1942, 82 years ago, Wind, Sand, and Stars.  Good news about the "P-38 Lightning." The program is dedicated to an aviation pioneer who was lost in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco while flying the mail. The story of his battle for survival.

Followed by Jack Benny, originally broadcast November 15, 1953, 71 years ago, Jack Prepares for his TV show.  The cast is rehearsing for Jack's TV show.

Finally Superman, originally broadcast November 14, 1941, 83 years ago, The Pan-American Highway. Clark, Perry White and Lois Lane take a secret aircraft aloft for a test flight. Three groups of engineers have disappeared while working in the Andes. This is a job for Clark Kent!   Bud Collyer (who has a bad case of Laryngitis) is Clark, Julian Noa is Perry Mason, and Joan Alexander is Lois Lane. I didn’t know that Superman could get Laryngitis!

Romeo and Juliet will never be the same.

The program's guest is the man in charge of merchandising research for the doughnut industry. He analyzes dunking techniques. Round table discussion topic: "Do you think women drivers operate their cars as efficiently as men?" The Mighty Allen Art Players perform "The Sound Man's Revenge."

Followed by Take It or Leave it starring Bill Baker, originally broadcast November 8, 1942, 82 years ago with guest Jack Benny. The first category is "Football Teams." Phil plays "Dinah" on his accordion. The third contestant is Jack Benny, whose category is "Musical History." After answering the $1 question, Jack tries to quit and take the dollar!

Then Fibber McGee and Molly, originally broadcast November 8, 1937, 87 years ago, Introducing Clark Dennis. The Combined and Amalgamated Newspaper Association is going to interview Fibber and Molly. The last appearance of Marian Jordan on the show for 18 months, due to illness. The show eventually changes its name to, "Fibber McGee and Company." The first appearance of Clark Dennis as the program's vocalist,replacing Perry Como.

Then Under Arrest starring Joe DeSantis, originally broadcast November 7, 1948, 76 years ago.  Joe Barker, a small time crook, is reported missing by his wife Madge. Joe is found shot dead. He was a crook and a swindler, but whodunit?

Followed by  Casey Crime Photographer starring Staats Cotsworth, originally broadcast November 6, 1947, 77 years ago, The Blonde’s Lipstick. Laura Neely disappears with $10,000 in cash she had collected for the City Welfare Fund, much to Casey's embarrassment.

Then The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, originally broadcast November 5, 1945, 79 years ago, The Fifth of November. A Guy Fawkes Day adventure.

Medical help and gasoline combined. Buffola gags for Fred (who gets seltzer squirted in his face, cracking up the audience and stopping the show). Harry's been on the show for one year tonight. The Mighty Allen Art Players perform, "Studio Strategy" or, "In Hollywood, All Of The Monkey Business Isn't Confined To The Zoo." Mr. Allen of Titanic Pictures is showing, "Africa Squeaks." Trudy Tadpole is the star of "Passion On The Lam." "Ape-O The Jungle Man" (played by Harry) is to marry "America's Sweetheart."

Followed by The Abbott and Costello Show, originally broadcast November 4, 1943, 81 years ago with guest Lana Turner.  Abbott and Costello are having trouble getting into the NBC studio before they go on the air. This program is remembered as being broadcast on the day Lou Costello's infant son died by drowning. No mention of this tragedy is made until the very end of the show, when Bud Abbott tells the radio audience what happened. During the program, there was no sign by Costello of anything else on his mind but the next corny joke. 
 
Then The CBS Radio Workshop, originally broadcast November 4, 1956, 68 years ago, Colloquy Four: The Joe Miller Joke Book.   A drama/documentary about the history of jokes, including a fictionalized visit from the venerable Joe Miller himself!

We follow that with Barrie Craig Confidential Investigator starring William Gargan, originally broadcast November 3, 1953, 71 years ago, The Lonely Corner.  Murderers must have a lot of trouble keeping their books balanced. For one thing, they can't always be sure when they're going to make their next killing, and for another, so many of their assets are buried.

Then Suspense, originally broadcast November 3, 1952, 72 years ago, Frankenstein starring Herbert Marshall. The Mary Shelley story about a scientist who creates a man, then is pursued by his creation. 

Finally, Superman, originally broadcast November 3, 1941, 83 years ago, The Silver Arrow. A landslide traps Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen in the cave. After Clark moves a few boulders, they find a mine shaft, empty sacks and finally Tumbleweed; gagged and tied.

Then The Mercury Theater of the Air, originally broadcast October 30, 1938, 86 years ago, The War of the Worlds.   The most famous radio show of all time. Mars invades New Jersey in a relocated adaptation of the HG Wells classic. 

Then HG Wells meets Orson Welles, originally broadcast October 28, 1949, 75 years ago.  The two literary giants, H.G. Wells and Orson Welles, met in San Antonio, Texas, for a recorded conversation on KTSA radio station. This chance encounter was significant, as both men were connected by their work on H.G. Wells’ classic science fiction novel, “The War of the Worlds”.

We follow that with the news from 86 years ago, then The Chase and Sandborn Hour, originally broadcast October 30, 1938, 86 years ago, with guest Madeleine Carroll.  Nelson Eddy starts the program by singing, "The Song Of The Vagabonds." Edgar tells a ghost story on Halloween.  Madeleine Carroll appears opposite Don Ameche in a romantic drama called, "There's Always Juliet." Judy recounts her first visit to a football game.

A podcast on the predecessor to the Emergency Broadcast System and the Emergency Alert System - CONELRAD

First, No Second Chance from 1955 - "No Second Chance" Conelrad in "practice" radio public service drama / documentary. 1955 Written by Jack Kessler Directed by Eric Howlett Produced by the National Office of Civil Defense by WJR Detroit

Second, By The People from 1959.  A government produced radio drama about the Emergency Broadcasting System known as CONELRAD.  The story concerns Key City Chronicle reporter Dan Taylor (played by Lon Clark) doing the "whole story" on CONELRAD. Three years after this broadcast, CONELRAD was replaced by the Emergency Broadcasting System (EBS).

Finally a recording of the 1961 CONELRAD test, Operation Alert 1961 complete with message from President Kennedy. 
This recording was made directly off the air. The station was 1240 Khz WSBC in Chicago.
